Eeek! I was gifted 2 half-gallon jugs of maple syrup! Once the initial excitement/hoarding urges wore off, I created this maple frozen yogurt recipe.

This is Mt. Tabor in Portland Oregon. She is my Muse when I need story.
Every other day I take a long walk and inevitably receive further inspiration for my books. today it came to me in wave after glorious wave, the images and scenes were so clear and succinct I almost walked into several objects.
I purchased my home right on her skirts in 2007. I knew I was going to buy the house even before I had been inside because it was so close to the Mountain. I have never regretted it. I did not know at that time I would become a writer and how much of an integral part she would play in my life. When I think about the amount of circumstance that had to align for me to be here with her today doing what I love, I cannot believe in coincidence.

I got a question.
Is it wrong of me to be super-irritated by Best Buy's 15-day return policy?
Is that an unreasonable policy? Am I just spoiled by other companies' too-generous return policies?
(If it matters, the item in question is a laptop case which cost about $15, purchased in a hurry right before leaving town on an airplane, yet never used because once I got home I realized my luggage had an appropriate and safe built-in laptop case and the one I had just purchased wasn't what I wanted anyway. And then I got back into town and couldn't find the receipt until yesterday, which was too late, and now I have this dumb thing I don't want and won't use.)
What do you think?

PUPPY VIDEO: I just found this video of our foster puppies in the backyard, crying to get inside. They were so small they could barely climb the step leading inside. We ended up keeping Banjo (the black and white one) and found a great home for his sister. We're going to get them together for a play date soon.
(And if the backyard looks a little post-apocalyptic, don't worry, it was under construction and we have a deck instead of concrete rubble.)

Those dried chili mango slices turned out awesome! So awesome, in fact, that we ate them all before I took a final picture. Here's how to make them anyway.
4-5 large ripe mangoes
1/4 cup lime juice
1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
Peel and slice mangoes into 1/4" thick pieces.
Dissolve honey in lime juice and toss all mango pieces in the juice.
Combine chili and salt in a shallow dish. Toss mango pieces in there, or what I did was just dip each piece in to cover one side.
Place in a single layer on dehydrator racks. Dry for 12 hours. (My basic Nesco dehydrator doesn't have any temp gauge or options besides "on" ... so whatever temp that is)
Store in an airtight container if you don't eat them all within 20 minutes.

I got a case of Ataulfo mangos on sale last week and have been figuring out ways to use them. I LOVE that chili-salt-lime-sugar coated dried mango you find at MExican markets and wanted to try making some of my own, sans sugar and preservatives.
I dipped strips of ripe mango in a combo of lime juice and honey, then rolled some of them in a combo of chile powder and salt. I'll post a complete recipe in the recipe section if they turn out good. So far, they are tasty, but still need to be dehydrated further.
Anyone else got any good dehydrator recipes? I need to use mine more often to justify keeping it. ;)

So, I made these flautas with +Average Betty last week and to my surprise, have learned that to most people in the U.S., flautas are made with flour tortillas and taquitos are made with corn.
I am here to say, though, that in Texas, I've never seen a flauta OR a taquito made with a flour tortilla. They're always corn and they're almost always called flautas. To me, taquitos are only taquitos if they come frozen in a box of 48. ;)
Whatever you call them, these rolled stuffed fried corn tortillas are dope!

This is an inspiring piece about the value of practicing what you want to accomplish even when you sometimes feel you're getting nowhere.
I know I need to practice more being patient with my dogs, myself, and other drivers on the road; practice not letting little bullshit things, annoyances like overcooked eggs or a window shade that won't roll down right, derail my whole day that otherwise was going really well.
