Question for any peeps in the Boston area, anyone want to play host to a tabletop/boardgame game night?  I'd provide the games and snacks (BYOB).

I'd do it at my place but Watson (one of the pups) will never stop barking and will drive everyone bonkers.  Trust me. ;)

The wife and I both love to play but want to find others that play.

I can't remember if it's today or tomorrow (or yesterday) that +Chris Hadfield returns to Earth, but either way it has been an absolute honor and privileged to follow along on his journey.

This will be one of the top space related moments in my life[1] and it was fantastic!

[1] I skipped school years ago to watch the Challenger launch.  It was the day it exploded.

I will still update when Chronicles comes out and when any other project updates, including Garden Wars, AuthorBoost, and the Sekrit Project. I just need to focus on other things right now.

Acceptance and Forgiveness

When I shared the This is Water video earlier I mentioned something about acceptance and how it was something I've learned over the years.  I was asked (privately) how and I figure I'd answer it here.

To me, there are two kinds of acceptance.  The first involves accepting things you can never change.  Both my mom and my wife have cancer in some form.(1)  This is something that, no matter what I do, I simply can't change.  No amount of wishing things were different, no amount of shouting 'unfair' will change that fact.  It took me a while but I eventually learned to accept that this was the new reality and instead of letting it color my life I just live my life as best I can and help them do the same.

Lunch!

So anyone whos had me circled for the past year remembers these.  Super Ramen.

It's actually Udon noodles (this time) which I add a bunch of stuff to.  What you see it green onions, cucumber, mung bean sprouts, cabbage, cilantro and sriracha with a lone Enoki mushroom sticking out.

What you don't see is snow peas, radish and radish leaves, and carrots.

I'm not really liking this batch of noodles.  Need to find some good, non-wheat based ones to try.

WARNING: Contains things that might make you think.

I'm sure you've all heard the joke about the little old lady at the front of the check out line that say "I have a coupon for everything!".  It's hard sometimes not to get upset at the person keeping you from doing Important Things(1).  But there is always a reason.  Usually one we can't see.

Something else I've learned over the years; acceptance.  Some things you simply can't change.  For those, you forgive, accept and move on.

AuthorBoost Update and News

So today is Wednesday May 8th.  That means that one week from today the  AuthorBoost project will close Phase 1 (accepting applications) and kick off Phase 2 (editorial review).

So you have just about a week to get your application in!

Several people have asked if their manuscript has to be complete right now.  The answer is a qualified no.  

Qualified in the sense that it doesn't have to be completed to apply but it needs to be close.  By close I mean within the next couple months.

So.  If your a writer (and I have several within the sounds of my text) and you are close... why haven't you applied!

Get on it!.

However

If you aren't close.  If you don't expect to be done until next year, you can always apply to next years round.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for anything.  That includes t-shirts and hats.

Everyone is different and everyone operates in a different manner.  Some write better in the morning, others late at night.

Some are able to snatch 20 minutes here and there and pound out a thousand words.  

Other need to schedule a couple hours to put down several hundred.

Do what works for you.  Not someone else.  

Experiment, test, adapt and adjust. Find your 'sweet spot' and tell all your stories.

Then make more :)

Prophesies are tricky things.

Just ask Macbeth. There are countless discussion, arguments, and treaties about whether or not the murders and terror that Macbeth started would have happened at all had he not heard the declaration from the witches that he would 'be King hereafter'.

Which begs the question, would he have become King has he not met the witches and taken it upon himself (with the wifes help).

Same holds true for the story of Oedipus, the invasion of Persia by Croesus, even Star Wars and Vader and the movie Twelve Monkeys.

They also have something else in common; they all are fulfilled in ways no one expected or predicted. Vader did bring balance in end and Macbeth did become king.

Since it's really hard to track engagement on Google+ other than +1's, comments, and re-shares I have a question for everyone within reading distance:

Do anyone actually read the serials I write and link to here?  Do you even know the stuff I write?

How many people even know I write stuff?
