Have you ever felt - or do you feel right now - that God is silent? Do you know what to do when God is silent? It is an important faith skill. Because too often we worry about if we have done something wrong when God feels distant. The silence of God is part of salvation life. Sometimes it lasts few days or weeks, sometimes the silent period lasts months or even years. But it doesn’t mean that we would be abandoned. It doesn’t mean that we would be bad Christians. http://buff.ly/1xobnTQ

From very early own I was aware of the power of my choices. I realized I had to decide whether I wanted to add to the good or to the bad in the world. I had to decide how I was going to be remembered. I had to choose between the light and the darkness. The choice was easy then and it still is a no-brainer. I want to choose life-giving light. I want to be zealous for good. I want to stand on God's side. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/11/zealous-for-good.html

Sometimes life seems like a desert. But no matter how we feel, God is real. No matter how things seem, there is hope. God is at work behind the scenes. When God appears, marvelous things happen. The desert bursts into life; there will be a highway in the desert leading us home.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/11/the-holy-road-home.html ‎

Have you ever read a novel with a protagonist who just doesn't get what s/he needs to learn in order to succeed/find happiness or balance in his or her life? It is so easy to know what's good for the protagonist while you're reading a novel. But why o why we can't help ourselves? We struggle with the same old, the same old without finding a way through it. Especially when we can't even name what's wrong with us. Sigh. Maybe we have forgotten something in the process? ...

What do you think? Does it really matter what you choose today? The world is big, you are small…does it really matter what you choose today? I dare to say yes. It does matter what we do each day. It does matter what we choose. Why? http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/11/does-it-matter-what-i-choose-today.html

One of the most famous Bible verses is Psalm 119:105 (AMP): Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. There are songs about it and almost everybody - it seems like it - knows it by heart. I've always loved it too but today I read it in the Message paraphrase and saw it very differently afterwards.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/11/the-word-of-god-directs-our-path.html

There are not many people who are naturally content in any circumstance. For my surprise, not even Paul. Even he had to learn how to be content. That gives us hope, don't you think? It is possible through Christ who strengthens us. God is more than happy to teach us how to be content in all circumstances. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/11/learning-to-be-content.html

If God didn’t send his Son merely to point an accusing finger and condemning people…it’s not my job either. If God did send his Son to help, to put the world right again….  my job is to share the life-changing grace of Jesus Christ. If God did send his Son to seek people to be embraced by grace…. also my job is to embrace others with God's abundant grace. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/11/extending-grace-not-judgment.html

We don't deserve a hearing from God. We don't have anything to offer him. Yet he hears us. We plea for mercy, but receive grace upon grace. That's God's love for you. He does not just grant us mercy, absolve our sins, and be done with us, but he gives us grace which is so much more.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/11/not-just-mercy-but-grace.html

When we don't understand what is going on in our lives, we can just trust God and keep a grip on hope. God does not ask us to comprehend. God asks us to trust him. When there's no answers, just lean on God. Wait for hope to appear. Because suffering and sorrow won't last forever. But God does. And his love and mercy are new every morning. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/11/when-life-is-heavy-and-hard-to-take.html

Faith is a weird thing. You can't see it. You can't taste it or touch it. But you can sense it. You can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. You can see with the eyes of faith and you can know the truth. Yet it is very hard to describe to others. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/11/true-faith-rejoices.html

Have you turned to God today? Or are you going on your own way? These questions right here defines your faith. Do you have a sunflower faith? A heart that follows God's light all the time? Or are you focused on yourself and your problems? And then wonder why God feels so distant? http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/11/sunflower-faith.html

Prayer is such an awesome gift for us. We just neglect it too often. We somehow don't believe enough in its power. But can we afford not to pray? I don't think so.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/11/prayer-renews-our-strength.html

I always find it delightful when science can explain something of faith. This past week I've been in awe of the research findings of Dr. Andrew Newberg who has been studying how prayer and meditation affect brain activity.  for religious people, God is as real as the physical world. Indeed! That's the experience of everyone who has been encountered by the Living God! http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/11/god-is-real.html

Do you remember when Jesus called Peter to follow him? Jesus asked him to let down his nets after a night without any success. When Peter did what Jesus asked him to do, they had a huge haul of fish. Peter was awestruck. And he asked Jesus to leave him alone because he could not handle that much holiness.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/god-will-not-leave-us.html

The world has always thought faith is foolishness. Nothing new there. But mercy is new every morning. That's why we stick with Jesus just like the saints gone before us. We are told to be generous, right? How do you feel about it? How would you feel if someone told you to not to try to be more generous than God? I was puzzled for sure. Especially when it was Bernard of Clairvaux (1090 - August 20, 1153). Read it yourself! What could it mean? http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/be-generous-like-god.html

Do you dare to hope when there's no reason to hope? Do you dare to hope when your life as you've known it has been taken over by a razing storm? Do you dare to hope when life has become bitterness and poison? I hope so. I've been there. Everything but God was taken from me. But God was more than enough. I can testify that God is faithful. That's why I can assure you: God will also see you through the storm. No matter how razing it is. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/dare-to-hope.html

Are you a control freak? Or an occasional control freak? You are not alone. It is hard to live carefree. It would be nice to be able to control things, wouldn't it? But that's not how life works. What to do then? Is there any help for control freaks available? Yes, but not in self-help. Blessedly, God is ready to offer help for control freaks. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/help-for-a-control-freak.html

Do you know how wide, how long, how high, and how deep God's love is? I hope you, at least, have had a glimpse of it. Even a glimpse of God's love will knock your socks off. There's nothing like it. And there's nothing better. Don't take my word for it. Read what David wrote in one of his psalms. http://buff.ly/1wdb5MH

If we are told (outer motivation) to behave or believe in certain ways, we are unlikely to meet those expectations. But if we have personally encountered Jesus (inner motivation), we follow his guidance with gladness. That's why we should not force rules and regulations on others. We should let Jesus change people according to his plan. http://buff.ly/1sWM1f7

Have you recently experienced a power outage? It sure changes perspective on things. But how would it feel to live without God’s power? If you have never experienced God’s power you don’t know what you are missing. But when you are used to have it and then there is a spiritual power outage, you hopefully realize how important part of your life God really is.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/spiritual-power-outage.html

Why do we not quit believing? Because when we meet God, everything changes. When we encounter the Living God, nothing else matters. Because it's the real deal. God breaths life into us. He saves, soothes, sustains. He guides us home. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/10/why-do-we-not-quit-believing.html

Why do we so often detain grace? We push it away and are determined to succeed on our own. We think of it as our last resource and are certain we will have time to make reservations for eternity. But what if life gets in the way and we simply forget? What if we don't have as much time as we think we do? Why then do we so often detain grace? We push it away and are determined to succeed on our own. We think of it as our last resource and are certain we will have time to make reservations for eternity. Do you know how to live carefree? Would you like to live carefree? I think we all do. Stress-free living would be lovely, don't you think? But most often we think carefree living is meant for children only. That's not true. At least, if we think of childhood as a stage of life. But it is true for God's children who learn to trust God's care. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/how-to-live-carefree.html

Deep down in our hearts, I think, we all want to run with the horses but too often we let the messiness of everyday life stop us and we settle. We all want purpose and meaning but we let the broken washing machines and chickenpox drag us down. We all want to be adventuresome but we let the obstacles and difficulties keep us away from living our lives to the fullest.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/10/called-to-fulfilling-lives.html

Last week I read an online article about how we should not do things we love every day. Like if you love ice cream, you should not eat it every day if you don't want it to become just an emotionless habit. But there's one exception for this rule, I think. The rule does not apply to Bible-reading. Because the more we read the Bible, the more we desire to read it. The more we digest the Word of God, the more fulfilled we become. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/let-the-bible-wow-you.html

The difference between happiness and blessedness comes very clear in the times of trouble. Happiness and brokenness don't go hand in hand. But blessedness and brokenness live well together. God offers to help us whenever we are in trouble. No prerequisites, no holiness requirements. We just need to plead for help. Blessed are who run to God. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2011/10/happiness-vs-blessedness.html

Are you in dire need of inner cleansing of your soul? You’re blessed because God is calling your name. God is opening his arms wide open and welcoming you home. There’s nothing that brings the Father more joy than welcoming his children back home. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/10/healing-from-the-inside-out.html

Are you tired of waiting for God's answers? I know how you're feeling. But our feelings of desolation does not mean God has abandoned us. When we are devastated, God is nearer than we can imagine. These silent seasons of the soul are part of our journey. We don't need to understand. We can just trust that God is at work even when we feel he doesn't care. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/09/through-the-silent-seasons.html

Few years ago I read an interview with a retiring bishop. He was asked what he would like to be remembered by. He said that it’s not important that he would be remembered. But he hopes people would remember that God is good. Amen to that! It’s not really about us, it’s about God! Because God is good – all the time! http://buff.ly/1DZeu7o

Traveling light is one of the tricks to endure on any journey. This is especially important to Christian pilgrims wanting to make it all the way home one day. The journey itself is hard enough, no extra baggage needed to drag us down. Especially when the help is near and readily available for anyone. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/09/traveling-light.html ‎

Are you tired of the news lately? Or are you avoiding the all together? Because they are so depressing and devastating? Or do you have a powerful urge to run to the other direction and pretend the bad things don't exist? Denial does not work. But there is another option.  http://buff.ly/1vneYz2

Are you frustrated, anxious, angry? It's time to spend some time with Jesus! I've come to experience this time after time. Whenever I find myself off-kilter, I realize I've not spend enough time in prayer and scripture reading.

I wasn't planning on writing a post on Hebrews 10:19-36 but these verses kept coming back to me over and over again so I finally succumbed to the challenge. This passage gives us (at least) five tips for Christian life.  Do you practice these tips for Christian life? What would you add? http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/09/5-tips-for-christian-life.html

Do you keep God at arm's length? Is your relationship with God a long-distance one? Or do you have an intimate and close relationship with God? Is knowing God really possible? Yes, because of Jesus it is. Because of Jesus we can be made right with God. But the adventure of faith does not end there, it's just a beginning. The real adventure is in getting to know God. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/09/knowing-god.html ‎

Pay attention who you listen to.
Only Jesus can teach us to feel right in our own skin.
Only Jesus can teach us how to live freely and lightly.
Only Jesus can teach us walk humbly with God.
Only Jesus can teach us the unforced rhythms of grace.
Only Jesus.

Do you think the blood of Christ is too precious for you? That you think so highly of the blood of Christ that you don't dare to apply it to you and your sins? Do you try make yourself a better person? Or do you trust God work in you to make you a person of grace? There's a world of difference between those two ways of life.

Self-strength stages an illusion. God creates life.
Self-effort causes stress. Jesus provides salvation.
Self-help brings exhaustion. The Holy Spirit brings peace.

Have you ever wondered why you don't make any spiritual progress? You've been diligent with spiritual practices and attended faithfully church functions but nothing happens? Sometimes we are lead to desert and that's ok. There are different seasons in faith life too. But make sure that you don't ignore the most important aspect of your spiritual life: the Holy Spirit. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/09/the-holy-spirit-the-difference-maker.html

Are you alert to the ways of God and ready for Jesus? Are you heeding the gospel and living it out every way you can? Are you helping others along the way? Good for you. Then you are right where God wants you to be. But if you are not satisfied where you are spiritually, now it's time to make a change. You don't want to abandon the living God. You do not want to become spiritually dull and not be ready for Jesus. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/09/heed-gospel.html

Following Christ does not mean uptight-living. It’s not about rules & regulations. Following Christ is upright-living instead. It’s about honoring God in everything we do, embracing God’s love & grace & living in joy & hope no matter what. It’s about holding the word of God fast in a sincere & upright heart & sticking with it until the harvest. It’s about resolving to abide in Christ through thick & thin &, by the grace of God, maturing & bearing fruit.  http://buff.ly/WZfQNV

Do you know how you can have your sins washed away? It's one of the most important things to know, don't you think? Of course, you need to first acknowledge that you are a sinner. But aren't we all? I, at least, don't know any one person who would be so perfect and holy that there would not be any trace of sin in him/her.  http://www.flowingfaith.com/2014/09/sins-washed-away.html ‎

When we give our dead, rotten things to God to be buried, he resurrects something amazingly beautiful. We can't do it. But God can. This is what resurrection living is all about. Death is not what it seems because of Christ. Our messy lives are not an obstacle for God. Because God is in business of renewal. He wants to give us a far better life than we could ever live on our own. http://www.flowingfaith.com/2012/09/redeeming-regrets.html
