So +Samsung Mobile USA and +Google Canada , I have to assume that Galaxy S2 LTE is dead end at 4.1 and will never have a proper ROM for 4.2.  This is sad, there is nothing at all wrong capable for 4.2 but nobody is not able to fix certain things.  It won't have an official kernel and I don't think it will ever be usable.  I'm stuck at 4.1, not that there's nothing wrong but I did want 4.2.

I like 4.2 but I can't use it as a daily driver  how much the devs try.  How about this Samsung, how about just a 4.2 kernel? Pipe dream and won't happen but I'm a dreamer.

I think there is a bug in the new #google   apps.  The #playstore  will add all new apps to the home screen which is the default behaviour but with settings set to disable it still drop apps to the home screen.  It  became a problem when I did a fresh ROM on a device I had 100 apps littered on the home screens.  That's ugly.  I thought it might be an issue with an AKOP/CM ROM but I also see the problem with a stock Nexus 10.

Some yank tourists got themselves into a silly situation in Iceland.  They though it would be clever to setup dinner complete with chairs and a dinner table on some floating ice.  The ice floated away from shore which was wise that they didn't try to swim in the frozen water.  But they had to be rescued which must have been pretty funny.  I'm waiting for larger versions of the photos which surely must have been snapped by lots of other tourists not to mention the rescue squad.

Tourists do the darndest things.

The SII is getting closer but I might have to fall back to 4.1 until some of the bits are better.  But I do like 4.2.

I'm giving slimrom a try.  I've been waiting for a 4.2 until some of the common bugs get fixed on Samsung finally gives a 4.2 kernel but that doesn't look like it ever will.  

Slimrom looks like the best one for me.  have enjoyed it for a few days now.  I was prepared that BT wouldn't have titles etc as long as the music plays.  check.

But wifi tether is a deal breaker if this doesn't work.  It's all there and I connect like I've always done but I'm not routing over tether.  Am I wrong or is there something I'm not missing?  Going back to any 4.1 ROM my tether is working fine.

I am not a developer.  But once upon a time before many were born I was a hobbyist and the resident coder back in the day when you did these things if you wanted to do something useful since there was little they could do and certainly not what a SOHO (was that even a term back then?) could afford.  So last year I was happy to hear about the ADK at Google IO and the invitation to hack on things more like the old days.  Perhaps I might revive an old hobby or have things useful beyond the plethora of commercial crap that is a fad for a day.

So +Gina Trapani , perhaps this is one reason you've heard so little about this initiative for a year?  Could be one reason.

Question for anyone that might know of internet competition in #Savannah #Georgia.  My elderly mother is a bit geeky these days and is tired of price increases and slow speeds.  She doesn't super speeds but anything better than half ass sub 6M DSL that costs too much.  I want her to do more streaming but data caps aren't good for that.  Just something reasonable.

Even normal DSL that isn't as expensive as what she's paying for substandard crap.  Even grandmothers know better these days.

I thought it was bad in Canada but we actually have some competition and can't find much in Georgia.  I assume the incumbents are Comcast and AT&T and I'm looking for something different for her.

Ok this Google Glass thing is getting strange.

First, it's not a consumer toy yet so in the meantime we have:
. pictures from Glass and especially video is right from 1987.
. most pictures of Glass aren't from glass but of glass since there is little you can actually use them for yet so we take pictures of the device.
. the next person that mentions using it for Google Hangout step back a moment and think about it before you say that.  Are you doing a hangout in the washroom mirror or what?
. Speaking of using Glass in the washroom, it's been done already and I can't un-see that now.
. And it's getting very strange already.

Yesterday's heavy wind storm and pressure drop knocked all of the heat away very quickly.  It is still blowing from the north.  The sun should come out soon and stay cool but cleaner.  The next wind storm should change directions bringing back the heat just as quickly but the air will be dirtier.

Hey +Jeff Jarvis , after reading your post about the Japan super speed fibre service I watched the latest Frame Rate where they were going on about wireless bandwidth being the freedom we all crave and need.  Now for my smart phone the current 3/4G is plenty fast enough but I would never consider running everything on it much less future content.  We'd not only require a quantum leap in wireless technologies I just don't see it even with higher bandwidth. Our current wireless is a tiny fraction of what runs on the wire no matter what the kids think.  The energy required to pump out all our communications over wireless is staggering.  Light transmission is far superior, I'm no engineer but I'm missing something when I hear wireless as the primary backbone for anything that is better served by light on a cable.

Ok this is a bit odd, two weeks ago I needed really fast shipping to make a customer happy. I paid the highest rate for overnight early delivery on Saturday.  Well it got as far as the local warehouse by 06:00 but sat there for three days for no reason or apology or refund.  Customer not pleased at all.  Not my fault and I can charge more for wasting my time but I prefer a happy customer that will call me next time.

Now this week I'm in no hurry so took the free delivery and can wait.  I wouldn't have chosen UPS at all just because of what they did earlier but the supplier chose for me since it was free.  The tracking is indeed UPS and already it shows "on delivery" even though it should take a few more days.  I don't know if I can trust it and can't imagine why I'll get it faster for free than what I paid last time.

About one month after a friend sent me a harddisk via +FedEx I get a bill in the mail that somehow I owe $18?  "Advancement Fee"?  WTF is that and how do you charge extra fees long after taking the money to ship a personal item?  Isn't that why you have forms, scales, and very high fees in the first place?

um, no thank you, I'm not interested in paying mystery fees for something sent to me that the other guy paid you to ship.

On another note, trying to do a job just a few days ago I paid the highest fees to get a 1lb item shipped overnight 500 kms.  3 days later the package arrives without even a hint about why it was so late or how we'll discount the charge.  This time it wasn't fedex but another shipping company.

I'm going back to old school pony express.  At least with the regular post office I can pay a tiny fraction of the cost.

They say all of the industrial jobs went overseas due to labour costs.  I don't believe that's the whole story at all.  There's more to it and this is why;
I get called to a packing plant with a crashed computer.  I have no idea what I'll find but it controls a boxing machine which is essentially a rugged PC.  I know what's wrong and what I need after learning on my own because nobody is available to help. The device and software is only two years old so it isn't ancient technology.
1. The manufacturer is stalling and won't fix the PC and isn't available until they get around to it.  They don't start caring for days.  The customer is loosing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
2. The software company won't help for even longer.  No call backs.  It takes days to even talk to someone.

Who knew there is a deadly volcano in Northern Ontario?  This small town didn't know and now everything is gone.  Famous former resident Shania Twain is devastated and says she'll visit her hometown to give support and hopes to find anyone alive.  The town is cutoff from all communications which was never very good and relied heavily on a single modem at the country store that also doubles as the town library.  The only cell phone hasn't worked for years and the only road into the area is blocked by lava.  Details are very sparse right now.

So Canada is in the first stage of enabling mobile payments.  I'm on record as saying this is being done wrong.  One new clue but never explained is the price they paid which sounds like a mistake in details or that there's an extra charge which if true is another reason for never attracting me to this system.

It might be future tech here and new tech in the U.S. but it's not new at all where it already works and seems to be useful and OPEN as far as competition and technologies.  Not here.  And maybe that's why Google Wallet and a host of other tech never reaches here in any meaningful way if at all.  I smell the usual corruption and fail.

Whoa #gmail  what was that?  I replied to a message and BCC'd myself so I could see how it looks to the other user but what I see is my own reply repeated over and over again.  There are 11 replies over the last few months which is still threaded but now I see the same message instead of the history.  I see it on the phone, tablet, and web UI but on my IMAP client which is how I normally do it it looks fine.
