So Ubuntu has never worked with my laptop display, only on external monitors. Which wasn't an issue at school, as I only use my external monitor. But now I don't have one, so I spent the last hour trying to figure out why the display was black. It wasn't the display drivers, or the display settings, or any number of things I tried. It turns out that for my model of laptop, Ubuntu enjoys turning the screen brightness to zero upon booting up.
You have got to be kidding me.

Reading Now: Haunted
Remember that short story Guts I shared a while back? I didn't realize that this is the book it's from until recently, so now I have to read it!
The book is 24 short stories brought together by the larger story of the 24 writers trapped in an author's retreat they cannot escape - even as the heat and food run out. It's beyond spooky and gross - but most frightening for me was the very sneaky glow-in-the-dark cover, which nearly gave me a heart attack the first time I rolled over in the night to find it staring at me from my nightstand. Well played, Palahniuk.

Hangouts on G+ finally working with the Chrome extension correctly, and I just got the Gmail option. I think Hangouts is going to be a really awesome foundation for a unified chat solution - even if the pieces are still coming into place.

Ebook library finally consolidated
Thanks to the new Google Play Books upload feature, I've finally brought all of my books from Kindle, Nook, and Play together into a single library. No more 4 reading apps for me.

Okay, the more I use Glass, the more I'm convinced that my ideal gadget combination would be Glass with full cellular connectivity, a 7 or 8 inch tablet, and a medium sized laptop. Once this kind of technology is fleshed out, 3-4" phones become a jack of all trades but master of none.

So +Jesse Wojdylo and others are reporting increased eyeballs on their posts.
If I had to guess, it's that nice little "34 new" refresh button over on the side. Because every single time I come back to my feed, I know whether there's new content to look for, and how far down I should scroll to find it. I feel like I'm seeing a lot more of my stream.

Alright, so my one quibble with the new design is that the top bar (that contains search and notifications) doesn't feel like it matches the overall new aesthetic. As this bar appears across Google properties, perhaps it's due for a refresh too?
