Feeling rather head desk right now...

I have a column of cells with multiple values in Excel. I need to count all if the cells that contain A without counting cells that contain AA unless it also has A.
I.e.
Cell 1: A, B, D count
Cell 2: AA, B, D don't count
Cell 3: AA, A, B count

A recent bill in the U.S. Senate would adopt (with slight modification) the proposal of James Hansen, to tax carbon pollution at the source - that is the fuel - either at the point of extraction (if within the U.S.) or at the point of import. Proceeds (3/5 of them, anyway) from this tax would be distributed to American citizens, on an equal basis. Most of the rest of the proceeds would go to energy efficiency modifications to existing buildings.

And I strongly encourage - you - to support - this bill. Call your Senator's office, call you Representative's office. Write them an email. Write them a letter. Then, if you've got more energy, contact your governor, your state officials, your local officials, and even the town dog-catcher.

Traits That Make A Story Compelling

Having been recently playing a story-driven video game with a story that really wasn't all that compelling and was therefore rather boring, I contemplated how I would even define "compelling". So what does make a story compelling?

I settled on the following ten traits, presented in no particular order with the understanding that different folks place certain ones as a higher priority than others:

Likable Protagonists
This is rather self-explanatory. It's very hard to stay interested in a story when you just don't like the protagonists for whatever reason.

Personal Bias
Something about the story is really speaking to you. It somehow feels like the story was written just for you. It's struck a cord within you because it's substantially addressing an issue in your life or... more »
