Taken at dawn along the Atlantic Coast in Florida. One of the few Florida coastal areas with a rocky beach. I hope you all are having a good week!

The first direct light rays of the day touch the mountains under a brooding sky. Taken last week in Grand Tetons National Park.

I just returned from spending a week in and near the Grand Tetons National Park. I ran the Jackson Hole Marathon last weekend and then spent some time hiking in the park. This is one of my favorite scenes that I was able to capture with my camera. Seeing the female moose interact with one of her calves was a real treat to watch. I hope you all are having a good week!

From a misty morning in Mt. Rainier National Park. The only sound was the running water.

I just returned from a really nice long weekend trip to Mt. Rainier National Park. Met up with a couple of good friends and spent some time hiking and shooting this remarkable place. Wildflowers were near peak. Here is one taken early in the morning as the mountain was first appearing in the fog and mist.

From the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was great to sit there and hear nothing except the gurgling water from the river and the sound of the wind in the leaves. Thanks for looking.

This is one of my Northwest Florida favorites. I shot this Gulf scene with a 17-40mm wide angle lens at 17mm. I then switched lenses to shoot the moon with my 70-200 so that it would show up larger. At 17mm the moon was only be a dot in the sky. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi everyone, this image was taken at one of my favorite spots in Zion NP about a week ago. When the light is right in the afternoon the light filters down through the narrow canyon and the canyon walls seem to almost glow. When life gets stressful I often bring my mind back to places like this. I hope you enjoy it!

Hi everyone, I am mostly rested from my recent Southwest adventures and have had a chance to go through some of my images. +Paul Marcellini and I camped out at Toroweap on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon one night and were able to shoot at the edge of the cliffs at sunset. We probably had 60 mph wind gusts that night that made shooting difficult and sometimes scary, but we made the best of it. It sure was beautiful out there! Thanks for looking.
Big thanks to +Singh-Ray Filters for their 3-stop hard edge GND that made this shot possible in one exposure.

I just returned from a trip to the Grand Canyon area with +Paul Marcellini . It was exhausting but the trip was a lot of fun. This one is from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I hope you all have been doing well!

From Death Valley National Park's "Racetrack." Apparently, during heavy wind and rain storms the rocks slide off the nearby hills into the playa and then they slide across the wet playa by the forces of wind and gravity. When everything dries up you can see the trails that they leave behind. I hope you all are having a good weekend!
Big thanks to +Singh-Ray Filters for the GND filter used for this one.

Last spring I was in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park when a big lightning storm rolled in and started dropping bolts all around. Given that I was on exposed ground I took immediate precautionary measures by putting my shirt over my camera to protect it from the rain and then I started shooting. I used a cable release and multi-second exposures in immediate succession to finally capture one of the bolts. I got a bit wet when it was all said and done.

This one is from Yosemite National Park from a couple of weeks ago. I hung out in the park for several days hoping for fresh snow but it never materialized for me. Despite no new snow, I never got tired of shooting this location made famous by Ansel Adams. I hope you all are having a good week!

Every February the sun is uniquely positioned over the Pacific Ocean to enable the light of the setting sun to illuminate the opening of this large sea stack on the Big Sur coast. I had broken my tripod 2 days earlier in Yosemite but I was able to class it up with duck tape for this shoot. Now I need to figure out what new tripod to get.

From my trip to the Big Sur coast in California last week. Check out the large version if you have an extra moment. When I looked at this one on the computer I noticed the birds on the rocks in the left...I think they will be a nice element in a larger print. I am including this one in the #sunsetsaturday theme curated by +TJ Kelly . I hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi everyone, I just returned home from California and have been able to go through most of my images from the trip. It seems like this trip consisted more of a focused effort in specific areas so I probably ended up with less total images in this trip but I am pleased with what I ended up with. I took this one on Friday night from the Big Sur coastal area. I hope everyone has had a good weekend!

I have now been in California for a week and I although I never like to predict success before I see the images on my monitor I am excited about sharing some of the places I have seen. From Yosmite to the Big Sur Coast, it has been a fun trip! Sadly, I fly back tomorrow but I making the most of my time here now by drinking a cold beverage at a fine local establishment off of Hwy 1.
This is an image taken a couple of years ago just before spring in GSMNP. I am always a sucker for mist in the woods...

A starfish clings to a rock in the face of surging waves.Taken on the Pacific Ocean last year in Olympic National Park. Once I found the starfish on the rock I set up my tripod behind it and started a series of long exposures in the fading light. The starfish was not touched, moved harassed etc., during the shoot. I hope everyone is having a great week!

Sunrise from a remote section of the Pacific Ocean in Washington state. My camping expedition was going pretty well until I discovered I did not pack in any extra socks and the ones I had were soaking wet. Good thing my sleeping bag was warm...I hope everyone had a great Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy New Year!!!

I recently returned to Florida after spending about a week in Washington state with family. I was able to drop by the Pacific Coast during my visit and I had a great time camping out in solitude in Olympic National Park. This image was taken at dusk a good bit after sunset using a 25 second exposure from a tripod. Looking forward to seeing everyone's shots from the holidays!

I am flying out tomorrow for my annual winter trip to Washington state. I really miss the mountains and the Pacific Ocean so it will be great to get back there. Here is an image from Mt. Rainier that I took on a winter camping trip a couple of years ago. This image was taken from a Gitzo tripod with only 1 leg! The other two legs broke off in the frigid cold temps so I buried the remaining leg in the snow and used a cable release to get the shot. Gitzo was kind enough to repair the tripod at no charge using properly manufactured materials. Despite the incident, I am still a big Gitzo fan...
I hope you all are well!

Here is one more taken from the dunes of Death Valley National Park last weekend. I isolated this scene in the dunes with a 70-200mm lens as the sun was getting low on the horizon. I hope you all are having a great weekend!

This image was taken a few days ago in the dunes of Death Valley National Park. As the sun was about to set the top of this dune was illuminated while the surrounding sand stayed in shadow. Thanks for looking!

I just returned from a trip to Death Valley a couple hours ago. I pulled this one from the card for a quick post. This was taken in the Badwater area of the park. I flew out there to take photos and run a 30k trail race, but the race cancelled due to 70 mph winds in Titus Canyon. I was bummed about the race but I still got to hike around and take some photos. I also got together with a few other runners to run Titus Canyon even though there was no formal race. It was a really scenic place for a run but the wind at the mouth of the canyon sandblasted me pretty good! I think there will be sand coming out of my ears for a couple of days :)

Anyone still need some Holiday/Christmas cards? Buy your cards from the Seattle Children's Hospital to support their uncompensated care fund for children with cancer. There are many cool cards to choose from, including one with this image of Mt. Shuksan that I took a few years ago. I do not get any proceeds from sales; it all goes to the hospital. This is for #SunsetSaturday, curated by +TJ Kelly . I took this on a backcountry camping trip in Olympic National Park on the Pacific Ocean. This image was taken a good bit after sunset using a long exposure from a tripod. I always look forward to my winter trips out there. It can be cold and lonely, but the experience of camping on the wild coast cannot be beat. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
