6 Things to Love About The New Google+ Photos
There are a lot of features to discover in the new Google+! Here are some of my favorite updates to Photos you might not have found yet.
1. Highlights view. The new photos landing page is called Highlights and it's your photo timeline -- showing you not only your best photos, but the best photos your friends have shared with you.
2. Trash view. Now when you delete photos, they go to the trash for 60 days. When you visit your trash, you can choose to restore photos (for those "oops" moments) or delete them permanently.
3. Photos search. When you do a search from the photos page, we'll search all your uploaded photos. It's pretty smart too -- we've brought all the awesomeness of Google search to your photo collection.
4. New organize mode. We have ... more »

Just finished watching the #googleio2013 keynotes and can't help but be excited about all the great stuff Google is launching (not the least of which are the new G+ features).
I especially loved listening to +Larry Page's Q&A. It's a privilege to work at a company that thinks so big.

I work in software for a living, so I'm usually pretty good at reading dialog boxes when they pop up in various places as I use my computer. Tonight, I got one from AVG that I clicked blindly to get out of the way -- and apparently I should have read it more carefully because it completely pwned my browser. I imagine it said something like:
We're about to do something really douchey.
[X] Ok, go for it
[X] I'm not going to read any of these options
[X] And I didn't like my default search engine anyway
[OK]
And, on top of it all, the minimal undo functionality they offer doesn't even work.
If you're a sucker like me, hopefully this little visual guide can help you get your browser fixed back up in a jiffy.
Does anyone out there have an AV program they recommend? I... more »

Cuba, day 2, and we made the long walk from our hotel to the Rafael Trejo Boxing Gym in Old Havana. We arrived just in time to see the men and women finish up their practice routines, strap on their gloves, and begin to spar. The gym is open air, and the tropical sun was beating down making it a tough place to photograph and, I imagine, an even tougher place to box. I threw on my 135mm lens and tried to keep up.

A rainy afternoon in Havana and a TS-E 45
The day we arrived in Havana, the skies opened up to welcome us with a torrential downpour. While people ducked under awnings and ran through the streets to get out of the rain, +Vincent Mo and I grabbed our gear and headed out to take photos.
It turned out to be the only day of our trip that it rained, and it gave us the opportunity photograph in some unique conditions. Personally, I always love photographing in bad weather -- you get really interesting light and can get intimate shots when people pay more attention to not getting wet than to what you're out there photographing. And, for us, the streets cast beautiful reflections of the Cuban people, their colorful clothing, and old cars.
We got wet, but our gear survived and it was well worth it :)

I just got back from a phenomenal trip to Cuba with +David Hobby and a about a dozen other really talented photographers. If you have the opportunity to visit Cuba, you should -- the weather is warm, the cars are old, the people are friendly, and the rum and cigars are really cheap :)
At the end of the trip, each photographer showcased 6 of their favorite photos from the week. Here are my 6, but there will be more coming as soon as I have time to do some more editing!

+Vincent Mo buys a tres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tres_(instrument)) from a street musician in Cuba and then jams with the band.

the clouds break over stonehenge
We're on the last leg of our London trip, and took yesterday to visit stonehenge. It sits right off a highway and is about 100 yards from a giant parking lot full of cars and busses. The adventurer (and photographer) in me wants it to be a mile hike into the pasture, but you can still find some vantage points without giant trucks whizzing by in the background.
Aside from the highway and parking lot, there isn't much else around. The ridges around the site are dotted with ancient burial mounds and sheep graze in the pasture as far as you can see. There's a constant cold wind blowing across the fields that will chill you to the bone. We were lucky enough to get a few breaks in the clouds and some sunlight shining through the great stone arches from time to time.
Here's a quick shot processed in Picasa. When I get back... more »

Good morning, Google+!
This is one of the specialty coffees from Trung Nguyen in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Most of the places I've visited in Southeast Asia have terrible coffee (you know it's bad when you're happy to get a packet of Nescafe), but Vietnam is different. They have a lot of great coffee shops and chains like Trung Nguyen that make really interesting (and tasty) coffees. I could go for a cup right about now :)

Filter Google+ search results to only show photo posts
You can now filter your Google+ search results to only show photo posts. Just type in what you’re looking for, and select “Photos” from the filter dropdown.
You can find any photo post that’s shared with you -- from items shared only with you, to public photos shared by some of the great photographers on Google+. Here are some searches that I enjoy:
- Long exposure: https://plus.google.com/s/long%20exposure/photos
- Steel wool: https://plus.google.com/s/steel%20wool/photos
- Cartoons: https://plus.google.com/s/cartoons/photos
We hope you enjoy using this feature. Keep the feedback coming!

Making it easier to geotag your photos
Today we’re excited to launch a handy new feature for geotagging your photos. From your desktop:
- Click on any of your photos to view it in the lightbox, and expand “Photo details” to see its geographic location (if any).
- Click “Add location” to tag your photo with any location in the world. If it’s already geotagged, you can edit or remove its location by clicking “Edit” or “Remove.”
As always, you control whether viewers can see the geo locations of your photo albums: just open your photos in the lightbox, and click “Show/Hide location data” in Photo details. You can also adjust your geo location preferences for new albums via settings (http://google.com/settings/plus).
We’re always working to make your Google+ photos experience better, so we hope you enjoy this new feature! (P.S. it’s rolling out graduall... more »

Whenever I'm looking for flights, I'm blown away by how blazingly fast Google Flight search is. I guess I shouldn't be that impressed considering we search the entire internet in a fraction of a second, but compared to the sluggishness of all the other flight search engines out there it's just incredible.

Sunset over the Pacific Coast
The sun sets over the marine layer sweeping in off the Pacific. This shot is from Windy Hill, one of my very favorite Open Space Preserves.
