We started out well...having one of the first large group meetings in the game. We initially were dominating due to better organization and lack of organization from our enlightened foes. Over a few weeks, it was clear people were losing interest. Our domination started to go away. The Enlightened began to get more organized.

In mid-December (or thereabouts) we were beat to the first level 7 portal in Chicago. Beat by a bunch. The tenacious group of Enlightened from Wicker Park managed to put up not one but several Level 7 portals before we were even approaching our first.This persisted for a couple of weeks. We finally managed to get our first level 7 portal up, and we were feeling the pressure downtown from the superiority of the Wicker Park group.

Pro tip: If you ever come across 4 portals in which you can 'capture' one within a field, you can link back to the one in the center and create 4 fields out of four portals. Here's a spot in Highland Park where I did it yesterday. A couple of the links were all ready existing, so I just had to finish it off but if you did this from scratch you would get 1878AP from links(313*6) and 5000AP from the fields(1250*4) for a total of 6878. Not bad for only having to drive a few blocks. 
Just remember  you can't link from a portal within a field, but you can always link to that portal from any of the outside points(as long as they're not also completely in a field).
And yes, the MUs get counted twice.

I live at the Jersey Shore. Did you see Brian Williams of NBC reporting from the hardest-hit area? That's where I live. The area has been devastated. Entire towns were destroyed. There are mile-long lines for gasoline at the few stations that have any. I'm hearing a lot of people in other parts of the country complaining that people shouldn't “politicize” this natural disaster, and I have one thing to say to them:

Shut up.

Just shut the hell up. There's an election next week, and this is politics. Now is exactly the right time to point out that we have one candidate who wants to eliminate or cut FEMA (it depends on which day you ask him), who thinks the states should handle this stuff themselves, who thinks disaster relief should be a for-profit enterprise.
