Darker and Not
There's one more image from Sunday evening to be processed - maybe two.
This image, like yesterday's, used the fisheye lens - no curve this time, though - twas on the level.
I'm looking forward to a moonless night down the track away from any ambient light. And maybe a water tank or two for the setting. That would rock, methinks.

Controlled Experiments: A Month of Glitch - 19/06/2013
I'm sure that's a bird getting ready to alight on the power pole just as the world flips over but decides, instead, to keep flying and to look for more carrion.
Original images: Cables at East Arm (Darwin) and Sky with aeroplane wing (somewhere over Victoria).
The Back Story -->>>
I have pseudo-randomly selected 60 images shot with Roger over the past three months and created an album for them. Each day, I will select the first and last of the images in the album (deleting each as they are used) and layer them together. I will then glitch them with a randomly selected set of glitches from decim8 and then layer the glitch with the original layered image. I will then complete the image by adding a vintage frame - just to mix the faux-old with the new.

That Sunrise
This sunrise - or That Sunrsise - is a wee bit like That Branch and That Window - it's one of those things that must be shot. Often: but only in the mornings, of course.
The time has come to move the body in the direction of the bus: here's to hoping for another beautiful dry season day.

Southern Cross for Lady Fran of Kingsdale, Sanday, Scotland
Yesterday was the birthday of +Lady Fran W and I didn't know that until today when she posted a birthday treat from a colleague: this one's for you, Fran - may there be many more birthdays and many more treats.
This image was shot last evening at Lee Point, Darwin: it was a five second exposure at ISO 3200 at f/4.5 using a fisheye lens. I've decreased the noise and increased the contrast. The blue to the top right and the golden glow towards the middle right is due to the moon being just out of frame on the right.
Best viewed at full-size, I reckon, to get the full impact of the myriad stars.

Chutney and +Google+ comments
I'm making another bit of one of my two (2) favourite chutneys: my flat should be smelling divine within an hour or two. There's also a pea and ham soup brewing away in the slow cooker. I might even make a sweet cheesecake, should the time not run out.
As well as cooking, I've also now enable G+ comments on my WordPress blog. Whilst the plugin I'm using now takes the place of the old comment system, I'me keeping the old comments in place should I find a system that works to have both old (WordPress) and new (G+) comments available at the same time. Whilst there is a system that does that now, that requires a newer version of PHP than what my hosting provider has implemented. Some day, perhaps?
In the meantime, I'd appreciate if you'd have a gander at the post and leave a comment (if the mood strikes you, ... more »

Valentina Tereshkova: First Woman in Space
"Take off your hat, sky, I'm coming!"
- Valentina on takeoff
50 years ago today, also a Sunday, Valentina was in orbit around our shared Earth - becoming the first woman in space. Valentina has been recently involved in a study regarding going to Mars, of which she has to say: "We know the human limits. And for us this remains a dream. Most likely the first flight will be one way. But I am ready."
Congratulations, Valentina, on your first flight: and may your dream of going to Mars become a reality.

Jalapeño Cheese Bread with Bacon and Maple-Chipotle-Butter
Who doesn't love cheese and Jalapeños ? This is pure comfort food, simple, easy and the combination of hot Jalapeños combined with smoky bacon and wonderfully gooey cheese topped with a small dash of sweet-smoky cold butter, will blow your mind and tickle your tastebuds.
This is a different take on the bread I made last year, foregoing the mediterranean flavours. Again, this can be easily adapted to your preferences, even as a vegetarian dish by leaving out the bacon. I had a similar butter in a restaurant I was a while ago but they did not tell me exactly what was in their version. So I made my own.
Ingredients:
Bread
500 g white bread flour (type 550)
300 ml / 1.5 cups lukewarm water
1,5 packages of instant dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon sea sal... more »

Pulp fiction - M C Pease
This is another author that I've found difficult to find any biographical information about - so this post will just be links to a few of the writings available on Gutenberg:
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/31680 <<--- Generals Help Themselves
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/29354 <<--- This One Problem
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/37572 <<--- The Way of Decisions
Of the above, The Way of Decisions is the one I enjoyed the most. I've also noticed that there are dearly priced copies of chapbooks of these available. I'm sure you can find those yourself - no point in advertising (from my perspective) for books freely available on Gutenberg.

I live in a country generally assumed to be a dictatorship. One of the Arab spring countries. I have lived through curfews and have seen the outcomes of the sort of surveillance now being revealed in the US.
People here talking about curfews aren't realizing what that actually FEELS like. It isn't about having to go inside, and the practicality of that. It's about creating the feeling that everyone, everything is watching.
A few points:
1) the purpose of this surveillance from the governments point of view is to control enemies of the state. Not terrorists. People who are coalescing around ideas that would destabilize the status quo. These could be religious ideas. These could be groups l... more »
