I was thinking about kinekt or wii, and how they make games with motion censors. And then about how to read data about movement. Any ideas? How cool would it be to make a system that tracks movement? http://gizmodo.com/5911894/is-this-the-best-gesture-control-system-eve

I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations. ~James Madison, speech, Virginia Convention, 1788

In 2000, de Bono advised a U.K Foreign Office committee that the Arab-Israeli conflict might be due, in part, to low levels of zinc found in people who eat unleavened bread (e.g. pita flatbread), a known side-effect of which is aggression. He suggested shipping out jars of Marmite to compensate.
FYI Edward de Bono, is a modern thinker who imagined the 6 thinking hats.

"There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them."

MY WAGE
By J.B Rittenhouse
I bargained with Life for a Penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.
For Life is a just employer,
He give you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid.

Day 3 of Machine Learning Course:
I was lazy last night, I didn't watch a single video. But tonight I finished the first lot of videos and did the Introduction review quiz. 5/5! Difference between classification and regression isn't hard at all. :)
Now there is a lot more videos to watch for week 1, so I'll need to pick up the pace to keep up!

So I've decided to document my progress of the online Machine Learning course that coursera.org hosts for Stanford University. Andrew Ng is a concretely respected, and now famed computer scientist who lectures the Machine Learning Class.
Day One: Monday 8:24 PM:
I've been through these introductory videos before, work was quiet today so I had a bit of time to read some more about Supervised Learning, and the difference between Regression and Classification. I got that question in the quiz wrong that required you to classify regression and classification examples. Oh no!
I just signed in for class...
I honour the code, blah blah blah,
Announcements!
Welcome to Machine Learning...

Hi everyone...
I've joined the Machine Leaning class again that would be running for the next 10 weeks. I joined the first class that Andrew Ng held but unfortunately could not complete it. Partially becuase I was in over my head and partially becuase my laptop was stolen half way through the course.
I'm hoping that I'll have more luck this second time around! Please wish me the best!
I am revisiting the material on Supervised learning and I'm looking for more exaples of classification and regression. Please share if you have come accross some interesting reading material.

I received this small write up from the Liberty newsletter:
"Each year around Woman's Day we debate the merits of having a newsletter dedicated to women and money. In a society where by-and-large women work and have the opportunity to be financially independent; does their gender really affect their financial decisions? Why would a woman need a different approach to finances than a man?
Statistics show us that despite the progress made in the workplace women remain financially more vulnerable than men; not least as they continue to earn less. A salary survey by employment portal Careers24 found that although the average salary in South Africa is R16 586, women earned on average R13 692 while men took home substantially higher amounts of R19 912.
Women make up a far higher percentage of single parents - a recent survey found that single mothers made up 56% of mothers... more »

Can everyone agree to stop being sarcastic over email?? Or at least put the sarcsm in italics, so that people don't assume I'm being sarcastic when I say "thanks anyway" in an email. Seriously people, seriously.

Lolzies, after an office dispute over wether we should change the generic product name "Interaction Center" to "Interaction Centre". I came accross this beauty:
While English spelling is chaotic and inconsistent, we would be worse off with phonetic spelling. English dialects have so many differences in accent and pronunciation that we would have big trouble understanding people writing phonetically in their own dialect. "Emma Chizzit" is supposedly Australian for "How much is it?" And I'll always remember the time a New Zealand friend baffled me with a comment about "Eric's lend load." Turned out he meant "our ex-landlord."

Please note that this review has a ton of SPOILERS:
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/21531/prometheus-review
I absolutely want to see Michael Fassbender performing in a better role. I absolutely agree with this line:
"Easily the best performance in the film, David is a wonderfully ambiguous and nuanced creation who earns his place alongside fellow synthetics Ash (Ian Holm) and Bishop (Lance Henriksen) with aplomb. That he manages to make this much of an impression while working with palpably inferior material than either Holm or Henriksen were ever given speaks volumes for Fassbender’s quality as an actor."

Who has seen Prometheus? In my very humble opinion I thought the movie was the worst science fiction movie I have ever had the misfortune of sitting through.
Even if you don't call it science fiction, and call it horror. It was bad, even for a horror movie.
The movie did open to a promising start, with the Alien dude drinking from the cup and his DNA changing. At first I thought I would be in for great ride. What I didn’t realize was that the DNA scene was the climax of the entire film and the rest would be a total anti-climax.
My question is, is it possible that an entire crew could be so stupid? So painfully dumb. Even dumb people are not that dumb. Unless, future people lost brain capasity somehow. I guess Ridley Scott left that out of his plot (not there was much plot anyway).

When I read this, I couldn't help but think about South Africa and the whole 'THE SPEAR' debacle, this paragraph stood out for me in particular:
"The deliberate and calculated abolition of family values by communist government directives has resulted in massive rates of divorce, domestic violence, alcoholism, and skyrocketing rates of STD’s including HIV. In 1995, a report showed that almost half of all murder cases were a result of domestic violence and predicted that by the year 2000, 800,000 Russians could be infected with HIV."
