Good morning, Plussers.
Pardon my silence of late. I haven't had a lot of time to try and figure out Google+'s new layout until this past week. While I like the new grid style home page, the update has certainly brought with it some quirks. I'm finding navigation to be a pain, uploading images so that they go into the desired albums is tricky and the "join community" button does not function. I think I have things worked out well enough for now to get back to posting, but it's going to take a while to get everything figured out. Hopefully the kinks will get worked out soon.
Anyway, back to some new images...

This was shot with one of my favorite Russian models, Alina (The Lions NY). She is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside... such a delight to work with and always so much fun. Beautiful hair and makeup work by Monique. The team really did a great job on all counts. I work with awesome people!

Well, it is proving to be a very, very busy spring here in the studio! I am currently retouching images from a beauty shoot, two fashion tests and an editorial, while getting everything in order for Sunday's jewelry/beauty shoot. We're now booking for May, as April is pretty much packed. I don't remember ever being this busy! It's good! But, I think I need an extended nap. ;)
I thought it was a good time to take a little break and share some recent work with you from the "Le Femme" shoot with model Stephanie (Benz Models). I captured this closeup in between jewelry shots. This girl has a great face for closeup work. The makeup work Monique did here really suited the looks we were after, bringing out the purple hues of the jewelry (which you'll see soon) and the digital cross-processing of the images overall. She did a great job, as always.

Taking today off from studio work and retouching to spend with my wonderful husband, +Christopher Wright, on his birthday!! Happy birthday, honey! xo =)
Tomorrow I'll be spending my day waiting on studio deliveries and contacting a photography vendor about a the wrong item being sent in an order I placed last week. Then, it's back to retouching and working on concept development and team coordination for three upcoming shoots, including our next fashion editorial. Busy week ahead! I will have new fashion & beauty shots to share with you this coming week.

So, I thought I'd share this with my friends here on Google+. +Christopher Wright and I just picked up a couple of new monitors for retouching. We went with IPS monitors that offer 100% sRGB coverage, a 178° viewing angle and handy swivel functionality. While we haven't had a chance to calibrate them yet, our initial impression is that the new monitors are going to prove very useful. That said, they are also going to take some getting used to. Being able to retouch vertical images in their native orientation is great, but when you're not used to seeing a vertically oriented monitor... well, let's just say that it is definitely a new experience!

Now, it's back to work retouching Friday's fashion shoot with beautiful Russian model, Alina (The Lions NY). I'm trying to get used to a new IPS monitor that swivels between horizontal and vertical orientation. Working on images in vertical mode is an entirely new experience!

Wrapping up a very long week of set design, topped off with a great fashion shoot yesterday in the studio. Tomorrow's shoot is postponed, so I can actually get a jump on my retouching. Sweet! I will have new images on the way soon.

More romantic beauty that's pretty in pink - For your Tuesday photo stream.
Macro beauty shot from our recent beauty shoot with model Brittany A. (Diamond Models). This was shot with a Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor lens from a very close distance. Modified clamshell lighting with a beauty dish and triflector was used to create dimension, accentuating the shape of the lips.
Extremely tight beauty shots mean being very, very close to your model, so a model who is comfortable with you being pretty much right in her face is essential. It also means a lot of attention to detail by both the makeup artist and the photographer. In the case of the photographer, this is as much true in post when retouching as it is while composing and taking the shot. A great team is vital and my team really did a fantastic job on all fronts.

Good morning, Plussers! Hope your week is off to a great start!
I'm spending my morning priming set walls for Friday's fashion shoot, then it's back to working on creative concept development - concept sketches and mood boards - for our next few creatives and an upcoming fashion editorial. Busy day here, but I'm still dragging a bit. It's a great time for another cup of caffeine to get the blood in these veins moving!
I also had a thought. I've been meaning to take more behind the scenes shots, as I really need to start posting to the blog on my website (it has been in a virtual coma since I redesigned the site last year - le sigh). Working on building two unique sets for upcoming creatives this week. Being a fashion & beauty photographer often means simultaneously owning the roles of creative director, set designer, prop stylist and art director, among other things. A client friend once, years ago, called me a "Jewel of all trades, master of whatever is convenient at the moment." I suppose it was a rather apt description and it has become one that I now readily embrace.
As long as you are doing what you love and creating something that speaks to you and how you see the world, there are no limits. Reach for the stars. Every now and then, you just might catch one.

So, this year has started out insanely busy, and with me recovering from some shoulder problems. But, before I start sharing new work, I have still have some work from the end of 2012 to share with you. This was my portion of the Twelve Ways Clothing campaign that +Christopher Wright and I shot together in December. TwelveWays is interesting concept for women's fashion - featuring a single article of clothing that can be worn 12 different ways. It's great for women on the go and those who like to travel light.
For this shoot, our job was to show a wide variety of looks that could be created with the TwelveWays piece featured as a dress, top and skirt. We shot fifteen looks in just over three hours. With total prep time for hair/makeup and clothing changes in between looks, the entire shoot lasted just about 6 hours, give or take. It was a fun shoot with a great team.

This is a follow up to my post from this morning. I shared another image from this look and talked about my particular love for beauty photography. I also mentioned that the close proximity that exists when shooting beauty images creates a unique dynamic between model and photographer, particularly when really tight beauty shots like the one seen below. There's no room for shyness from your model when the front of your lens is a mere foot or so away from your model's face. A great beauty model knows how to engage the camera, even when it's incredibly close.
Again, this gorgeous, avant garde makeup look was created by our talented H/MUA Monique. The complementary play of color (purple and gold) and mix of textures was simply wonderful to photograph.

If you were to ask me what my favorite subject is to shoot, I would have to say that it's beauty. I love shooting fashion, and enjoy shooting botanicals, still life (product) images and food. But, there is nothing quite like a great beauty face. The interaction between model and photographer is also quite unique when you are so close to your subject. This is especially true when you get into macro beauty shots. I will post a macro beauty shot from this look this afternoon, after the coffee has kicked in and I have gotten some retouching done from our latest fashion campaign.
It's also in beauty photography that your hair, makeup and nail artists have an opportunity to truly shine. How about something festive for your weekend photo stream?
This is a sneak peek (unretouched) from today's holiday and spring dual lookbook shoot with TwelveWays Clothing. +Christopher Wright and I shot fifteen looks in just over 3 1/2 hours in what was a 6 1/2 hour shoot all together, including hair, makeup and styling time. Our team did a fantastic job on all fronts today. I'll share finished images from this shoot in their own album once they're finished.
Now, it's time to kick back at home and enjoy a pizza, wine and a movie or two this evening. Brilliant!

Good afternoon all.
I'm getting back into the groove after taking more than a month off to deal with our condo remodel, our youngest being sick, the holidays and other autumn craziness. I've been very busy over the past couple of weeks shooting new beauty work and thought now was a good time to share some of it with you.
This is from Tuesday's beauty shoot. I haven't shot macro beauty for a while, so this was really was overdue. This image was shot with the Nikon 105mm micro lens - one of my favorite beauty lenses for its sharpness and color rendition. The makeup and nail work were done by one of go-to makeup artists, Monique McLaughlin. She did an incredible job, as always.

Sometimes you come across a deal that is too good to pass up. Our existing beauty lens broke a few months ago (jammed aperture), so it was time to get a replacement. We were looking at getting the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G Micro Nikkor, but I came across this lens listed in Ex+ condition from +KEH Camera for half the price!
Now, having had great experiences buying through KEH in the past, I know they rate their equipment very conservatively. In my experience, lenses rated at Ex+ are usually in near mint condition. So, I placed my order on Monday. The lens arrived this morning from FedEx and it is absolutely pristine. There are zero signs of wear - not even a speck of visible internal dust. The lens looks brand new. Can't beat it for a $450 price tag!
Now that our latest beauty editorial is out the door, it looks like its time to give this lens a test run with a beauty test shoot! =)... more »

Another image from my recent shoot with model Luccia (w/ Wilhelmina Models). This was the last look from this shoot. I love the way she worked the blue wrap for this look. The photos have a bit of a dancer feel to them. Great hair/makeup work by Monique, as usual. Now, on to retouching images of our latest beauty editorial. =)

Hey all. Hope your weekend is going well!
We just finished shooting an absolutely gorgeous beauty editorial this afternoon entitled "A Beautiful Descent" for publication in October. I wish I could share a sneak peek with you as the photos are absolutely stunning, but I can't post any images from the shoot until the editorial goes to print. So, in the meantime, I thought I'd share another image of model Luccia C. with Wilhelmina Models that I shot a little over a week ago while she was in town visiting family. She's a lot of fun to work with. Monique did a stellar job with hair and makeup as always.
Now, to go start preparing for a hurricane headed this way. If you don't see me online the early part of next week, the power here may be out.

Here's some new beauty to kick off the week. This is from Thursday's shoot with model Luccia (Wilhelmina Models). Luccia is very emotive and it really comes through in the images. She has fabulous hair as well, which Monique styled beautifully for the shoot. Wardrobe styling and photography were both done by me. I should have more images from this shoot up in a day or two.

Here's more from a recent tropical swimwear shoot with Ravish Sands Swimwear. I loved this darling "purple peacock" swimsuit on Melanie and her pose here was fantastic. These colorful suits really popped against the rich green foliage. I love the walls of vines and leaves in this location, which is not far from the studio. It was a typical hot, humid Florida summer day (we shot in midday, which is rather miserable, to be honest), but the resulting photos were definitely well worth it.

This is the first of three images I have processed of Melanie in this pink lace bikini from Ravish Sands Swimwear - a great line out of Miami. This was shot on location right here in central Florida for Ravish Sands, but it certainly looks like a rainforest, doesn't it! Location selection is very important when you are shooting for a designer or a clothing line. We felt this location was a great choice to show the exotic charm of these beautiful suits. The colors really provided a nice contrast, as well. We're looking forward to working with Ravish Sands again in the near future.
I have a second look from this swimwear shoot left to process before moving onto the jewelry that I also shot over the weekend. Here's some behind-the-scenes fun to kick off the week. I took this outtake of Melanie (shown unretouched) during our initial lighting test on yesterday's shoot for Ravish Sands Swimwear. We've worked with Melanie several times before, so you'll find other images of her in my albums here. Melanie is always a lot of fun to work with and despite the sweltering heat and bugs on location, yesterday's shoot was no exception. We all had a blast.
After we wrapped up with the swimwear, we headed back to the studio to shoot a selection of beautiful jewelry pieces with Melanie from two great new collections by jewelry designer Marianela Arteaga. I spent the entire day on Saturday shooting product shots of both collections, so you'll be seeing those soon, as well.

This is an image that I shot for our latest beauty editorial entitled "Shine," which features bold metallic looks that truly shimmer and shine. Our team did a great job creating the elaborate looks for the editorial, which left bits of glitter scattered and the odd crystal floating around the studio long after the shoot.

Here's some new beauty for your Thursday stream. This is from this past Saturday's shoot with stunning model Amber A with Espada Management. Our H/MUA Monique did a brilliant job with hair styling and makeup. This shoot was a great deal of fun and I love the images that resulted. We're looking forward to working with this team again on an upcoming jewelry lookbook shoot. It's going to be fabulous!

I've spent the past two weeks working around the clock completely overhauling my website. It's been a lot of work, but it was well worth the effort. She did a great job after filling in at the last minute for our originally scheduled model failed to call or show. Sometimes a shoot doesn't go quite as planned, leaving you to look for creative solutions to unforeseen problems that arise. The model who was originally booked for this past Saturday's shoot was a no-call/no-show. But, since we had a great team on hand, we didn't want to let the day go to waste. This is a shot of our last minute replacement model, Aylen... who came over to the studio with very little notice to put our day to good use. She was also very sweet and a lot of fun to work with. Thanks, Aylen!

Good morning folks! Hope your week is off to a great start. This morning, I thought I'd share another women's accessories still life photo from one of my recent off-figure fashion shoots. The term "off-figure" refers to still life (i.e. product shots) of fashion items, including clothing, accessories and jewelry.
On this particular shoot, my focus was on women's accessories - footwear and handbags, to be more specific. To emphasize the texture and shape of these golden and bronze women's handbags, I went with a complementary color scheme. I chose warm blues for enhanced contrast and to add to the handbags' charm. Strong reflections further emphasize their surface detail.

There's nothing like a beautiful sunset! Well, it looks like one in the women's accessories product shot seen below. I shot this in studio late last month before our last shoot with Genii, but put it aside until our images with her were finished. I finally wrapped up this and a few other images from this shoot today.
Over the next few days I'll be busy working on concept development maps and creative mood boards for some upcoming fashion editorials, as well as wrapping up some new botanical images that I've been meaning to get to. For now, here's some warm, vivid color for your weekend stream.

Here's another image from my black and white fashion set with model Genii w/ Front Management - for your mid-week photo stream. I love working with emotive models. This is probably my favorite shot from this look because of the level of emotion conveyed through Genii's pose and expression. Her intensity is really amazing. Working with her is a great deal of fun, too.
