Tonight's popcorn.
Great story, but still think the Lancaster is an ugly looking plane.

Spent two hours trying to fix a coding problem on a server. Eventually gave up and rebooted.
Then spent two more hours learning a new, more elegant and simple way to do what I was trying to do in the first place. Tested it, only to discover the rebooted server was now performing as it should and I didn't need to redo the code.
Not sure to chalk that down as a learning experience or a big waste of time.

Growing up in the late 70s in rural America, I can still remember driving around in the cornfields listening to music like this, windows down without much of a care in the world.
Sometimes I regret living in big city.

Just imagine if there was no KFC in Shenzhen. The smugglers would be all over the East Rail line with bags of this stuff.
Of course the guys here have it a bit rougher to get their KFC fix.

For those of you who want everything in single column...
While one can set his or her streams to a single column by clicking on "More" on the bar towards the top, this does not work for profiles or searches, which will still show up in multiple columns. There is a solution to this, at least if you are using a PC with Windows 7 (I've no idea about other computers or devices). Go to "Settings" on the menu at the left of the screen, then go to "Accessibilty" and check it. If it works as it did on my machine, then it should set everything from Profiles to Searches to Communities to a nice, linear, single column.
Feel free to share this post!

According to neuroscientist Susan Greenfield, society's love affair with screens - whether video gaming or social media - may be significantly altering the development of the brain. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22283452
While Baroness Greenfield has yet to conclude whether screens are doing harm or good, her contribution adds to the discussion of how much time we should spend living our lives online.
So are screens rotting our brains - or improving them?

Cool.
"Here are the basic facts: on 5 May 1945—five days after Hitler’s suicide—three Sherman tanks from the 23rd Tank Battalion of the U.S. 12th Armored Division under the command of Capt. John C. ‘Jack’ Lee Jr., liberated an Austrian castle called Schloss Itter in the Tyrol, a special prison that housed various French VIPs, including the ex-prime ministers Paul Reynaud and Eduard Daladier and former commanders-in-chief Generals Maxime Weygand and Paul Gamelin, amongst several others. Yet when the units of the veteran 17th Waffen-SS Panzer Grenadier Division arrived to recapture the castle and execute the prisoners, Lee’s beleaguered and outnumbered men were joined by anti-Nazi German soldiers of the Wehrmacht, as well as some of the extremely feisty wives and girlfriends of the (needless-to-say hitherto bickering) French VIPs, and together they fought off some of the best crack troops of t... more »

Wow.
I've read this speech a dozen times, and even listened to it a couple, but this mini-video of David Foster Wallace's commencement address "This is Water" is very watchable and breathes even more life into one of the top commencement speeches of all time. If you haven't seen it, sit down for 9 minutes and wonder about your default setting and what is the real value of an education.

At lots of tech conferences we’ve seen the waterfall signs with logos and more, but this is the first use we’ve seen “in the wild” for practical use, a stop sign on a tunnel before a large truck jams itself in.
