Scott Jarvie382,112POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURESIt's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event.SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINKIt's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all.You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to.BENEFITWell it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most. I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks likeON AIRThis will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout.I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't.SPECIAL GUESTBecause I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things I will have my good friend and great photographer +Susan Marinello on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well.We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access.DIRECTIONS1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album3.  IMPORTANT If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video.4. Make sure the album is Public access5. Add +Scott Jarvie  +Susan Marinello to your circles6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites.IMPORTANTIt bears repeating:If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video.DShare your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00148
Kelli Seeger Kim1,307,996It's +Karen Hutton 's birthday!  (okay, well - technically, it's September 7.  But +Kerry Murphy and I couldn't wait any longer!)Anyone familiar with Karen will attest to the fact that she is all about peoples' passions.  What drives them.  What's in their hearts.  What better gift to give to her, than to share with her images that we feel represent our passion/soul/heart!.  Images that truly represent who we feel we are now - or the journey we are on (or traveled), in search of personal growth.  Maybe you have an image of yours that represents a style of photography that you feel a deep connection with. Maybe you have an image that marked a moment in your life that was particularly incredible for you - that touched you in a way that is significant.  We can have a lot of fun with this theme - the most important thing is that it comes from our heart.  :-)So feel free to upload images to this event, and tag them:   #SharingOurLightWithKarenHutton  Sharing Our Light With Karen Hutton (Happy Birthday, Karen!)2012-09-07 13:00:0058

Gailen Mapes67,894Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Nikon Camera D-F - 15 of 31Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 200 members. These circles are photographers that I admire. They have "more photos, less spam."  There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity). Be sure to get all of the circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to September 1st for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting August 1st.)  You can also use the #handpickedcircles hash tag and sort by "recent."I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:   https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles #pixelworld   #pixelworldcircle #circleoftheday #bestsharedcircle   #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle             #handpickedcircles             Note: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +2014-09-15 10:04:58128000

Charles Lupica83,296═════════════════════════════════     Top Photographers you should follow                 An Art of Photography Circle  Photographers whose art we think will amaze you ═════════════════════════════════#ArtOfPhotographyCircle tag to allow people to easily mute this post. It's been a while since I shared a circle here on G+ so I thought I would team up with +Scott Thomas and +Brian Dukes to share with you the first new circle I've created in more than a year.  We think you'll find that the photographers in this circle are some of the very best that G+ has to offer.  Of course you're probably already following people like Jeff Sullivan , Lori Hibbett, Jay Patel and  Vivienne Gucwa but we think that all of the people in this circle will add high quality content to your stream.  All share their amazing work and many of them share tutorials and resources to help you perfect your art. When deciding who would be in this circle, we used these guidelines• Sharing mostly their own work• When sharing the work of others, the work is clearly identified• Little to no, promotional material. • Some people are included that share a lot about technique but may not share a lot of their photography.• If they have gifs in their stream, they're almost always educational. • The images shared by these people frequently fall into the category of, "I wish I'd taken it" • They post to G+ on a regular basis,  For some this may be a little as once a month.  For others, this may be one or more a day.  People who post less than once a month are not included.  We prefer to circle people that are active here on G+. No one has asked to be in this circle, however, we intend to share a version of this each month.  *If you know of a talented photographer you'd like us to add*, please leave a comment and share the circle.  Doing so will get us to look at their profile. However, there is no guarantee that we'll include them in a future circle.   We want to maintain the quality of this circle.  Therefore, we will only add photographers that we would want to see in our own personal stream. Many of the photographers in this circle are well known so we are particularly interested in hearing your choice of photographers with fewer than 15'000 followers.  We would like to give them the opportunity to gain more views for their work. Please plus, comment and share.  This circle has no requirements for future participation but your support and encouragement is appreciated.I have chosen the name of the circle carefully to try to accurately represent the quality of the work by the photographers in it.  ValidationThis circle was very heavily vetted.  We have looked at each photographer's stream and decide that we would like to include them in this circle. +Charles Lupica (me), +Scott Thomas and +2014-06-27 17:39:05116935056

Mark Goodman8,406Introducing the Photographer Inspiration and Engagement circle. This is a collection of photographers I personally find inspiring as well as active and engaging on Google+. My hope is that if you like my work you'll also thoroughly enjoy the posts of those included in this circle.  Who's in the PIE? You knew there'd be a hook right ;)- Mostly Landscape, Cityscape and Architectural photographers.- Share mostly original content.- Photogs that I relate to they way they take a photo, process a photo or that I want to dabble in a similar look to what they achieve.- A few people that have shared me in previous circles with an appreciation for their support.Who's not in the PIE?- A lot of outstanding photographers that may just have a different style or shoot a different genre from my own. You can consider them the ice cream on the side :)- People I haven't discovered even if they might be in my circles and people I may have overlooked. It's a big Google+ ocean but I hope to continue adding people that fit this particular circle in the future. - No spammers or non-photography related streams. If you find that's not the case please send me a message. Please add and reshare the circle so others may enjoy what I think is an extremely high quality circle.Have a great day and enjoy your enhanced content stream!2014-04-06 16:56:5721024720

I may have found where heaven meets Earth.

As some of you may know, I've been playing around with the Wi-Fi feature on the +Sony  #A7R . It's made my mobile workflow a bit easier, not having to deal with SD card adapters for my tablet or phone. Lately, I've been shooting at RAW+JPEG in order to transfer the full res JPEGs over to my mobile device. And while some processing apps automatically resize the image to a smaller size, I still end up with a decent sized photo. And as a landscape photographer, waiting for sunset at a scene, processing on location is a fun way to kill a little bit of time before the sun goes down. Like this moment at Angeles National Forest. There was quite some time before the sunset so I decided to take a few minutes to process this image on my trusty iPhone during my cloud watching.

"Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why." -Eddie Cantor

I’ve often talked about how much I love Tokyo, Japan. More specifically, how Japan has preserved their culture, history and whatever parts of nature they can. I’ve also spoken at length about how the Meiji Jingu Shrine in the Shibuya district is by far my favorite place to visit whenever I’m in town. Today I thought I’d share a photo that combines all of that over on my blog.

Even as the storm approached, she was able to show me that my path was clear and led straight to her heart.

I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to head back up to my beloved Verdugo Mountains here in Glendale, CA. I figured I’d make my way up there over the Summer because not only would the peak give me a nice cool breeze. But also, it wouldn’t be too cold up there like during other seasons, meaning that I could spend hours upon hours up there enjoying the scenery. On top of that, I also have the +Sony  #A7R  with me so that would make my bag way lighter than it would normally be with my D3S. The last time I made my way up the mountain it took me a little bit longer than usual to get up there because of the DSLR gear I was lugged to the peak. The last time I made my way up the mountain it took me a little bit longer than usual to get up there because of the DSLR gear I was lugged to the peak. It was just a matter of heading up there during the right conditions for photography. But a few weeks ago, when Southern California was finally graced with a day or two of rain, the storm clouds filled the sky just begging to be shot. So with that in mind, I called up my pal and fellow photographer +Scott Sugawara and we made the 2 mile hike up to the mountain peak. It had been such a long time since my last hike up the Verdugo Mountains that when I reached the peak I had the biggest grin on my face. I didn’t realize how much I missed my hikes up there until I actually made it to the peak. And on a side note, my shoulders were nice and fresh because of how lightweight my gear was. And the hike paid off because no matter which direction I looked in, the scenery was absolutely amazing! Before the sun started to set I decided to look North to get a shot of the trail that led deeper into the mountain range because as you can see here, the clouds were just something to behold. That and the clear dirt path leading all the way to what I think is a KROQ broadcasting antennae made for a no brainer to shoot. And there was also a very nice breeze blowing through so it was quite refreshing on such a humid day.

Soaking up some California sun is all fun and good, but I can't help but play in the shade when I'm at El Matador State Beach. Especially when it leads me to some interesting views and compositions like this one.

Out of the several lakes I’ve visited in recent years one that stands out to me is Lundy Lake up in Mono County, CA. It encompasses everything that I love about Mother Nature. Peace and quiet with nothing but natural sounds filling my ears. On top of that it’s surrounded by some beautiful mountains.

When I was in Olancha, CA not too long ago, I was able to witness something pretty cool. A rain storm. Now to be clear, I have of course seen my share of rain storms. I’ve watched them from a distance. I’ve watched them from within. But this one was very unique to me because I could actually watch it approach.

Now if only the rain would stick around and help us Californians out of this drought, that would be awesome.

I’ve often said that one of the best cityscapes in the world is of Tokyo, Japan. Not only is it one of the greatest cities in the world to view from above, but it’s very easy to gain access to high observatory decks all throughout the city.

For this view, me and my pals found ourselves on the observatory deck of Mori Tower staring out into the endless sea of city lights.

Today I spent most of my time watching a rubber ducky being inflated followed by some time wasted behind the wheel of my car crawling back home in traffic. But, that doesn't mean my blog won't stay fresh. Here's today's blog post.

And yes, this is portrait oriented, so if the sky is enough to draw you in, then this thumbnail works out nicely. He he.

"Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why." -Eddie Cantor

As I’ve stated in posts in the past, this little overpass above the 134 Freeway in Eagle Rock, CA is by far one of my favorites to go to when it comes to some light streak shooting. During the right conditions the valley around the freeway can be quite the scene. I’ve shot HDR’s, single long exposures, sunset, blue hour, night, I simply just love it at this location. And though I’ve shot from there often, I wanted to get some shots in with the Sony A7R. For this frame, I decided to go with the portrait orientation again, but this time I decided to get the Carpool Violation sign into the frame. I’ve never known anyone to be so dumb as to ride in the carpool lane while driving solo, but I must say that a fine of $341 minimum is stiff enough to deter most people. I say “most” because let’s face it, there are some nuts out there that’ll zip through that lane anyways. The sky wasn’t all that great, but the colors from the city lights were quite interesting. And with a little cross processing, I really enjoyed how this one turned out. I also thought this would be an appropriate post to start yet another month. Time is flying by faster and faster each year. It’s becoming more of an effort to slow down or just plain stop, to relax and enjoy all that life has to offer.

And speaking of all that life has to offer, this could very well be my last shot from this location. At least for a while, or unless the weather creates a sky that is overwhelmingly irresistible. As I said, I love shooting from this location for light trails, but that also means I have a ton of shots from here already. In fact this album is filled with photos with the same perspective. So unless I get a dream sky or decide to visit this location to get some video footage with my phone, I'll refrain from shooting from here. At least for the time being.

Great campaign for a worthy cause. Check out the original post for all the details on how you can contribute.

Announcing Plus One Collection Volume III Fundraising Campaign

It's been a long journey, but we are fully focused on this now, and want to get the latest version of the #PlusOneCollectionIII book into your hands before Christmas. To help us get there, we created an Indiegogo crowdsourcing campaign that will provide us with the funds needed to publish the book.

All the details are here - http://igg.me/at/plus-one-collection-iii/x/2020311

We also created a video explaining our project. You can find it here - Plus One Collection, Volume III

We hope you can help up in two ways - first, contribute the funds for the book by picking one of the perks offered there. Second, please help us spread the word! Share the news here, share the news to your friends and family on other social networks and email. Share, share, share!

We set a goal to raise $30,000 in the next 30 days. We know it's a lofty one, but it will allow us to do two things - publish and ship the book to all campaign sponsors, and raise $5,000-10,000 for our charitable cause, Eliza O'Neill.

The campaign is a fixed goal campaign, meaning, we do need to meet the goal of $30,000 before we receive any funds and can print the book.

I know many of you who contributed photographs to the book want to know if your photo made it. We're still working on the selection, and will announce the list of contributing artists next week. Stay tuned!

But in the meantime, we're happy to announce that the book publication process is back on track and with your help, let's make it happen and help Eliza!___Great campaign for a worthy cause. Check out the original post for all the details on how you can contribute.

Back in the Spring, me and my good friend +Takahiro Yamamoto met up for a day of shooting at Kasai Rinkai Park. It's an area that I've only passed through and never actually explored so it was a nice change of pace from the typical shoots we have in the heart of Tokyo. Today's post contains a selection of images I like from that day, so if you'd like to see more then feel free to click through.

When I'm itching to go for a shoot but too lazy to leave the comforts of home, I end up playing in the world of figure photography. It's fun to play with some small lighting setups since it's not something I normally do. And since the idea of driving through LA traffic has made me lazier by the minute, I'll probably end up with a ton of figure photos by the end of the year. He he.

Then again, I could just spend my time playing Angry Birds or something.

Without saying a word she blew me a kiss goodbye.

Today I thought I'd share another photo that was shot with my +Sony  #A7R  and processed on my trusty iPhone. The wifi feature on the camera has made transferring images to mobile devices incredibly easy so while waiting for scenes like this to unfold I've been able to take a few minutes and process some A7R images while on the go. Images processed on my phone, regardless of what I shot it with, have been making their way to Instagram first since it's an easy interface to use and it hits several other social sites at once. So feel free to hop on over to my stream and check it out. http://instagram.com/themarke

A lot of times when I visit a foreign country, especially if it's a country I'm visiting for the first time or not that often, I like just walking and traveling in a random direction. No plans, no maps, just jump on a train going one way or better yet, just walk in the direction of the wind. And when I find something interesting during my exploration, like this junction in Singapore, it adds a nice bonus to my trip.

No plans, no maps, just jump on a train going one way or better yet, just walk in the direction of the wind. And when I find something interesting during my exploration, like this junction in Singapore, it adds a nice bonus to my trip.___

Sun, trees, and a silhouette. Not a bad combination for an interesting landscape shot.

Well, at least I think so.

A while back I had lost contact with my protocol and astromech droids so I set off in search for them at their last known location. I thought I was on the right path but didn't find them anywhere. Later I found out that they had been picked up and sold as "used" to a guy named Owen and Luke. When I tracked them down they were kind enough to return them but it seemed like they needed them more than me, so I let them keep the droids in exchange for a hot meal and a lift to the nearest spaceport town.

One of my favorite places to visit this year has been Kennedy Meadows near Mojave, CA. For those of you that keep up with my blog postings, you’ll have noticed that I’ve posted several photos from this location already so that should be indication enough that I really enjoy this area.

If there's one thing I really enjoy about piers, it's exploring the world underneath them. There always seems to be something interesting to see and shoot whenever I'm underneath a pier. And the San Clemente Pier is certainly no exception to that.

Whenever I’m in Tokyo, I tend to have a day where I’m just exploring the city on my own. I’ve been there so often though, that whenever I do go exploring, I tend to just relax and walk slowly through whichever district I’m in. And walking slow certainly has it's benefits. Especially when I have a camera in my hands. He he.

Joshua Trees, a starry sky and a bright moon made for a fun night shoot in the desert. Not to mention it gave me a little bit of neat lens flare. He he.

This is another portrait oriented image, but this time the thumbnail for this post worked out quite nicely. He he.

It's been a while since I uploaded anything to 500px so I figured now was as good a time as any. And yes, it's a crappy thumbnail that's here. G+ tends to grab the top half of a portrait oriented photograph for the link thumbnail. So unless you're satisfied with just these clouds, I guess you'll have to click through. He he he. ;-P

So this past weekend I went out to shoot the super moon. I can tell you now that any shot I took of that moon didn't turn out so well. So for today's blog post I decided to post an image from the previous super moon. I didn't have a lens that got me anywhere near it. It wasn't during a moonrise or moonset so I don't have any foreground action in the image. It's just a plain ol' image of the moon. But I like the moon so I posted it. He he.

When you’re faced with a great sunset, the first thing you want to do is find that one easy path to get to it. Am I right?

"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." -Heraclitus

When me and my dear friend +Yumi Shoji and her baby daughter were walking around the beautiful area of Nakameguro in Tokyo, Japan, we decided to take a break and have a seat on one of the public seating areas along the river. While we missed full bloom of the Sakura we were still able to catch some great bloom and more than that, the Sakura Fubuki (cherry blossom blizzard). The wind had been blowing nicely all day so there would be times when we would get many of the Sakura petals floating around in the air like snowflakes. When we stood up again I thought I’d get this angled view of the river. It was a section that didn’t have much cherry blossom bloom, but the river was completely saturated by the pink petals. It looked like a river of nothing but petals. Itlook... more »

It looked pretty great so I snapped this shot. I shot this with a Sony A7R, so if you’d like to see this in full resolution, just click on the image and feel free to zoom in and get a closer look at those petals.

Leave it to Mother Nature to provide a sunset that would be worthy of any major motion picture. And because she provides them in real life, they're usually infinitely better than what any movie can provide.

In Tokyo with some extra cash and an itch to buy something? But don't know what to spend that money on? Just look to the sky and something might catch your eye, because if it can be paid for, then you can bet that there's an ad for it decorating the Tokyo skyline.

If there are a couple of things that landscape photography has helped me improve about myself, it's patience and discipline. The patience to wait for sunset. The discipline to get up during ungodly hours for sunrise. Etc. and so forth.

And who would've thought that that patience and discipline would come in handy while I waited for my cousin and her family to come zooming by on the Jurassic Park Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood. It was hot with no shade and I waited for damn near an hour, but I got what I wanted.

Too bad their heads were down though. ;-P

It's hard to keep my eyes off of the beaches and the ocean whenever I'm in Malibu. But sometimes I manage to pull myself away and look in the opposite direction.

And that's when I catch scenes like this.
