Scott Jarvie427,492*POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURES* It's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. _This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event._ *SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINK* It's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all. You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to. *BENEFIT* Well it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most.  I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. _*To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks like*_ *ON AIR* This will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout. I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't. *SPECIAL GUEST* Because I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things  I will have my good friend and great photographer @109486822103622036238 on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well. We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access. *DIRECTIONS* 1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery 2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album 3.  *IMPORTANT* If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video. 4. Make sure the album is Public access 5. Add @100962871525684315897  @109486822103622036238 to your circles 6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites. *IMPORTANT* It bears repeating: _If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video._ Do not post a link if you are not ok with lots of people visiting that link in addition to us and are not ok with it being on video as well.Share your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00143
Kelli Seeger Kim1,297,686It's @112471890387110967375 's birthday!  (okay, well - technically, it's September 7.  But @117681034834791918293 and I couldn't wait any longer!) Anyone familiar with Karen will attest to the fact that she is all about peoples' passions.  What drives them.  What's in their hearts.   What better gift to give to her, than to share with her images that we feel represent our passion/soul/heart!.  Images that truly represent who we feel we are now - or the journey we are on (or traveled), in search of personal growth.   Maybe you have an image of yours that represents a style of photography that you feel a deep connection with. Maybe you have an image that marked a moment in your life that was particularly incredible for you - that touched you in a way that is significant.   We can have a lot of fun with this theme - the most important thing is that it comes from our heart.  :-) So feel free to upload images to this event, and tag them:   #SharingOurLightWithKarenHutton  Sharing Our Light With Karen Hutton (Happy Birthday, Karen!)2012-09-07 13:00:0058

Watching my little niece discover the world around her makes me glad to have a camera with me whenever I visit her.

It also goes to show that high megapixels counts aren't just for the epic landscapes, but they also work well for the smaller and more precious moments in life. ;-)

The location where the Korean Bell of Friendship in San Pedro, CA is great. Why? Well, the Bell itself is already quite beautiful. True art. But with the placement being high above the water with nothing but the sea and distant islands behind it, it makes for an incredibly beautiful scene during conditions like you see in this shot.

Though I'm not on social media as often these days, my blog still goes strong with a new post each day. I try to post links to the latest posts but I'm not so consistent with it. So, for anyone interested in keeping up with my blog, I've started a newsletter. Check it out and if you see what you like, then give it a subscribe by clicking the button on the newsletter or by going directly to the sign up page here: http://www.themarkeworld.com/aboutme/subscribe-to-the-markes-newsletter/

I'll probably send them out once a month. Perhaps twice if I feel so inclined. But in any event, it's up and ready for your inbox if you want it there. He he.

"We all have our time machines. Some take us back, they're called memories. Some take us forward, they're called dreams." -Jeremy Irons

Something that I often think about are the sunsets that I’ve been lucky enough to witness over Mono Lake in Mono County, CA. It’s by far one of my favorite locations to visit of anywhere in the world and each time I’m there I’ve witnessed some of the most amazing scenes and sunsets that I’ve ever seen. Whether the sky is clear or full of rain clouds, it doesn’t seem to matter at Mono Lake. The golden hour is something special already, but when the sun is just on the verge of touching the distant mountainous horizon, the colors in the area simply come alive and really pop. From the sand on the ground to the tufa on the shore to the sky, it’s a true masterpiece that Mother Nature has provided and always provides for whenever I’mout there.

This year I’ve found myself in a very fortunate situation to not have to drive my car often as well as not having to spend much time in front of an office computer, so I’ve been spending a lot of time going in every which way on my bike. And I’ve been enjoying being out on the road so much that I haven’t had much desire to burn my time with my face buried in a smart device or my computer. I’d rather feel the cool wind on my face as I cruise around town. Whether it’s for physical training, riding to a spot for a mini shoot, or just heading over to a friends house, I just enjoy grabbing my bike and riding to wherever I feel like going.

Of course I still try to pop in every now and then to see what folks are up to, but Mr. Schulz had the right idea, and being constantly connected tends to feel like I'm pedaling uphill with just a gear or two. But not being in front of a device as often as before feels like I'm properly using every gear I have available to me making that uphill climb all the more easier.

Probably one of the best things about hitting the road in the United States is the wide open roads that cut through epic valleys and deserts. Leading to an unknown number of adventures and beautiful scenery. As my buddy +Scott Sugawara knows all too well.

After a day of being on the road, off in the desert contending with post apocalyptic thugs, random bugs and hunger me and a couple of my pals found a nice and peaceful spot in the Angeles National Forest to hang, relax and get some night shots in. It was blistering cold due to the strong winds, but seeing the snow on several of the mountain peaks made it easy to stand out there with a camera and tripods to get a photo or two of the night scene.

As the end drew near, all I could think to do was smile and wave.

Being a guy that lives in Southern California this statement may seem a bit biased, but there’s nothing like hanging out at the beach at the end of the day and watching the ocean. When I was at Leo Carillo State Park over in Malibu I decided to step out onto the very cool rock formations that lead from the beach side hills and into the ocean water. The tide was a bit high which was great because of how each wave crashed into the shore rocks. While I was out there deciding what to shoot I had put my camera and tripod down next to me and I simply sat there for a while just watching the water wash over the shore. It’s quite a relaxing moment and I can’t say enough how much I enjoy times like that. "Fly me to the moon, Let me play among the stars." -Frank Sinatra

During a recent night shoot at Joshua Tree National Park here in California, I was set up and ready to shoot the stars. It was the middle of the week with an almost full moon set to rise so I knew that I wouldn’t be going for any Milky Way shots during this shoot. But still I knew I would have some time to shoot some beautifully starry skies before the moon rose and washed out some of the twinkle in the night sky. As often as I’ve gone out for some night shoots over the last several years, I’ve been pretty confident in getting focus on whatever I need to focus on, but all throughout the night I was finding it difficult to nail down my focus. As often as I’ve gone out for some night shoots over the last several years, I’ve been pretty confident in getting focus on whatever I need to focus on, but all throughout the night I was finding it difficult to nail down my focus. The Sony A7R has made life easier in this regard, but on this night, I was missing my mark by just a bit. By the time I started to settle in and get my focus more locked in, the moon had already started to rise and wash out the sky. So with my composition, the moon was rising just above the mound of boulders that I had centered in the frame. So I figured I’d stay where I was and I kept focusing and kept shooting. As the moon started to shine just at the peak of the boulders, the moonlight revealed some beautifully dreamy clouds floating into the scene and it also revealed a passing plane that was flying towards the light of the moon. The moonlight had also reflected off of the sky trails that was being left by the passing plane so I snapped another shot of this composition. And sure enough, in post this is the one I enjoyed the most.

Read more about this shot on my blog: http://www.themarkeworld.com/joshua-tree/fly-moon/___
