martin shervington1,354,191In this interview with the brightest chap on the subject, I ad going to be asking every question I've wanted to ask Mark for months! We should all get the most understanding on this whole subject area in a rapid fire, energetic and dense 30-40 minute session. Content will include... What is ‘authorship’? How do you set authorship up? (G+ account, website, publishers) What is the benefit of setting it up? Can a business Page have authorship? What is ‘rel publisher’ all about? What is PageRank? (simple version!) Is this all about ‘relevance’? How do the people you to whom you are connected matter now? What advice would you give to: a) an individual, and  b) a business to get it all set up! martin shervington1,354,191What is it all about? The leadORS indicator gives you insight into your own communication style and the journey you need to lead to conduct effective "online conversations" personally, and within your organisation. Why is this important in business today? Attracting and engaging with customers, leading and retaining staff and staying ahead of the competition is of paramount importance for today’s business leaders. The leadORS indicator provides a solution to these challenges by understanding your communication style and helping you to transform business thinking through social engagement and digital citizenship. Sound good?  What do you before the hangout? Well, it take about a minute to complete the questionnaire here: http://www.leadors.co I've done it. I am a 'Scout' The indicator will… • Identify your preferred communication style online • Take you on a journey to become Open, Random, Supportive (ORS), the most effective way to behave on the internet • Identify simple steps to build your profile and communicate effectively online • Show you how you can interact with communities online • Review your team styles and identify typical brand advocates • Build your business brand online and stand out ahead of the competition Once we are rolling I will give you some more information on it all as well. Here is the link for the questionnaire again: http://www.leadors.co ORS - a Friend As someone who is Open, Random and Supportive (ORS), you are inclined to be free-flowing, accepting and supportive of those around you. CRS – a Manager Someone who is Closed, Random and Supportive, (CRS) tends to be reluctant to promote themselves online but that does not necessarily mean that they are closed to the Internet.  OSC – a Mentor Someone who is Open, Selective and Controlling (OSC), tends to exhibit an open mind and are careful with what they choose to hear and share. They like to gain control of people and situations. CRC – an Engineer Someone who is Closed, Random and Controlling (CRC) tends to be reluctant to reveal themselves online but is accepting of new data insights. They may seek to control others and situations around them, using the information and knowledge you generate from the Internet. Often keen to game systems. ORC – a Scout Someone who is Open, Random and Controlling (ORC) tend to be free-flowing online and accepting of most things. They tend to seek control of others and situations, using the online data they receive. CSC – a Chief Someone who is Closed, Selective and Controlling (CSC) tends to be closed about themselves, choosy or skeptical about the data they absorb. These people are direct opposites of the behavior of the social web, which can lead them to control people and situations. They are often skeptical about the role or value, the internet can play in their own lives. CSS – an Analyst Someone who is Closed, Selective and Supportive (CSS) tends to keep themselves to themselves online and are selective of new data insigLearning more about 'Lead ORS', with Thomas Power2013-03-27 20:00:0044

Is social networking over? Nah, it's just changing, as things always do.

I'm calling it: Social networking is over

(Read my column http://goo.gl/I10wwL )

And just like that, social networking is no more. The sites formerly known as social networks are pivoting to something else.

It was great while it lasted, but social networking is going away.

A few years ago, social networking was the center of the known universe. “Social” served as linguistic pixie dust that magically transformed any boring old thing into something relevant.

Call me Debbie Downer, but I'm here to tell you that those days are over.

Here's who's killing social networking and why:

Nothing is too basic / simple in marketing. Everyone needs reminding now and again about the basics, and keeping it simple.

Was something lost in the translation?

This quote by +Mark Schaefer was instagrammed by +Mike Allton, and maybe it was the target audience (Social Media Marketing World), but really?

Content needs to be shared to have value? Really? I need to hear a defense of this statement as I categorically disagree. Much of my company's best performing content, content that has yielded us clients, had almost zero social shares. Where do people find it? This thing called a Search Engine.

In fact, for most of my clients, social is such a tiny part of the inbound traffic, and hardly a tiny part of the "first touch".

Zero content value? Hardly. ___Nothing is too basic / simple in marketing. Everyone needs reminding now and again about the basics, and keeping it simple.

The House that Jack Ma Built.

Writing China: Duncan Clark, "Alibaba: The House that Jack Ma Built - WSJ

In 1980, a scrawny Chinese teenager approached an Australian tourist named David Morley in the southern Chinese city Hangzhou and asked to practice English. The chance meeting would prove a pivotal one for Ma Yun, who would later be known to the wider world as Jack Ma.
In “Alibaba: The House that Jack Ma Built,” which begins sale April 12, author Duncan Clark explores how that early friendship helped prepare Mr. Ma to found China’s largest e-commerce company, Alibaba Group Holding Co., two decades later. ___The House that Jack Ma Built.

Perfect: "I don’t want a new app to help me do work; I want different ways to think about work so I can get more done. "

"""Let’s talk about making tools. The things we make should either reduce pain, increase pleasure, or do some mix of the two. If you’re really good at goal A, you get a bit of goal B for free. And if you don’t figure out how to do either, you’re playing dress-up. Increasingly, I feel like a lot of my tools are dressing-up as tools, because they don’t offer any savings in time or effort, just slightly different methods to mindlessly shift information from one bucket to the next. And if one bucket has a hole in it, you get another, smaller bucket to catch anything coming out of the hole in the first bucket. This goes on and on with more holes and buckets, and before you know it, you have an intricate network of buckets whose reason for existance is to catch the information you can’t manage in the first place. You are stuck in bucket recursion, adding tools to patch the shortcomings of other tools. Those patches are how you know you have dress-up tools.""" This reminds me of the Javascript ecosystem today.___Perfect: "I don’t want a new app to help me do work; I want different ways to think about work so I can get more done. "

"unfiltered news" from Google. Looks promising?

We have a new experiment at Google which many of you may enjoy: "unfiltered.news," a site which analyzes news feeds from around the world, and tells you which news stories are most missed by the media where you live. From there, you can see how these stories are being covered around the world, and know what you're missing.

This is still a tool in beta, and it's got some rough edges, but the idea is excellent and has great promise.___"unfiltered news" from Google. Looks promising?

Crowd Control? Baidu Has an Algorithm for That - WSJ

A unit of Chinese internet giant Baidu Inc. has developed an algorithm that can predict crowd formation, which it says could be used to help warn authorities and individuals of unusually large crowds that could lead to public-safety threats.

On Tuesday, Baidu’s Big Data Lab published a study that showed that aggregated data from Baidu Map route searches, when correlated with the crowd density of the places people searched for can predict future crowd formations at a certain place and at a certain time.___Crowd control tech
