So, remember that absurd claim of #GMO wheat killing your babies? I took it apart based on the data some time ago at +Biofortified. But now the Food Safety folks in Australia and New Zealand have also replied to the controversy.
Fear and misinformation are sure to persist. And I predict a rise in conspiracy theory. But people who are rational and make decisions on data will find this helpful.

Google Oklahoma Tornado Person Finder

Knowing that Google normally sets up a specific "person finder" tool for each tragedy like this, I attempted to discover if they were setting one up now for OKC. Using the URL naming convention as the last disasters, I found a LIVE URL that will probably be the one they use.
Note that right now it says "Earthquake" but I'm assuming they are using a past setup as a template and that this will be their live URL.
Also note that there is NO public information about this yet. I did this discovery on my own and can only assume that this will be their live URL as: 1) It's active 2) It fits their naming convention 3) source HTML contains 6 references to Oklahoma.

This is the most dramatic and unbelievable episode of Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares I have ever seen, it belongs on Ripley's Believe it or not because the things that happen in this restaurant makes it unbelievable that this business is still running. How can a couple this psychotic and abusive still be alive and functioning out there in the real world? Every other episode pales in comparison as this restaurant is a hell-pit of an establishment.
This episode was recorded at a Scottsdale, Arizona restaurant, is there any laws regarding withholding tips from servers in Arizona that they are breaking? It is ludicrous the owners have to take tips away from servers in order to keep their sham of a restaurant open.

An Update On the Kiera Wilmot Case
I recently posted (http://www.thephysicsmill.com/2013/05/01/social-activism-time/) about the plight of a teenager in Florida, Kiera Wilmot, who performed a science experiment which went badly. No one was hurt and no property was damaged, but she's been expelled and she's facing felony charges.
The case has been getting a lot of media attention, which is a really good thing, I think. Here's some more reading material if you're interested.

Anyone a Lawyer/Know One? Victim of A.D.A. Violation Needs Help!
I'm staying with a friend in Baltimore. She's disabled. Walks with crutches, except when at home. Her housing complex is blatantly and deliberately trying to force her out claiming her place is "too messy". In fact this just happened right before my eyes.
The truth, however, is that her place is not that messy. Part of the mess, as I explained to them during inspection, was my stuff because I just got into town. Most of it, however, is because at home she does not walk on her crutches (she can't do that all the time, she's not actually capable), she crawls. As a result she keeps most items down low, under tables or desks where she can get at them. Anyways as I said, not even that messy.

H7N9: A virus worth watching
Thanks to the two Virology Hangouts on Air that +Scott Lewis and I hosted ("Going Viral" - SciSunHOA from 28 April, 2013 and http://goo.gl/1WO5Q), I have viruses on my mind (in a good way!). So it was with interest that I read about the recent outbreaks of H7N9 in China. If you want a nice primer on why influenza strains have these letters to their name, read +Deeksha Tare's post here (which explains the significance of Hemagglutinin and Neuraminidase: http://goo.gl/CnQLX).
• H7N9 is an animal influenza A virus that has crossed the species barrier to infect humans. The first human infection was reported in China two months ago, and the latest WHO report confirms a total of 108 cases and 22 deaths thus far. The virus has now spread beyond mainland China as a case has been reported in Taiwan.

Remembering April 30th the Fall of Saigon and all of those who fought for freedom. To our Captain Luy Pham of the Truong Xuan who took on 3628 souls. To Captain Anton Martin Olsen of the SS Clara Maersk who rescued us at sea when the water pumps failed. To HM the Queen for allowing safe passage to land in HK. To the courageous soldiers, diplomats and ordinary people in extraordinary times who delivered generosity to desperate strangers. All for the right to live in a free world.
With 2 deaths and 2 births at sea, our story could have been one of deep tragedy. Whether we are blessed with joy or are overcoming struggles, we are fortunate to face another day. Thank you to the Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation for recording our stories for future generations. My final bug post...
For +Chris Mallory 's bday today, I took a trip out of my comfort zone and tried to photograph a few insects while out on a hike.... Out of all the photos I took, this is my favorite one...
I'm not a huge fan of insects but I know they're beneficial to the ecosystem and Chris is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to bugs...
Anyways, Chris, may you enjoy your special day... Have an awesome one and Happy Birthday!
