Beam me up, Scotty!

That famous Star Trek line is iconic, inspiring, and just a little bit funny. Beaming of course referred to the use of molecular transporters that could convert matter into energy, transmit the energy patterns over great distance, than re-materialize the original matter.

Unfortunately, we're still a ways from being able to duplicate that technology, but it seems like every day, there are announcements and revelations in other areas where we are making progress.
