Looking down the Takachiho Gorge

This shot is from further up looking down the Gorge with my longer lens. Sometimes just a single shot raw in a heavenly location is all you need.

There is nothing better then going through Lightroom looking at your raws and just on their own without any enhancements they already look amazing. I really wish that could happen more often but it's that whole timing thing with photography where you have to be at the perfect place at the perfect time.
I know some of the big pro landscaper photographers like Peter Lik will continue to go back to the same location day after day until he gets the perfect conditions. Hopefully one day I'll be able to do that when photography is my job. But in the meantime I've been getting lucky with this last trip to Japan with great conditions.

Victoria Beach of Laguna Beach

Hung out at Victoria Beach last night to take some photos. It took awhile but I finally got a few nice shot of this little tower when nobody was around it. I got pretty lucky with the tide and the clear weather. I have no idea of the history of this tower. It looks like it use to be part of a bigger structure that was up on these rocks.

Ok...So +Nels Griffin played the +JR Stoner  guitar on about 7 songs.  It was fantastic!..  Here is one of the songs.  Ironicly this Zac Brown song is about his guitar, a Martin.  So the lyrics about the life of a guitar we thought where fitting.

Few of us realize how awesome it is that Google+ allows us to post animated GIF files. So I wanted to take advantage of their generocity by featuring some DIY guitar tech tips. Initially I'm experimenting with them so bear with me. I promise to come up with some good ones in the future. 

#1  - How to restring an acoustic guitar using the "lock string" technique

• Turn your tuners creating a straight shot for the string. 
• Thread the string thru the eyelet
• Leave enough string for wrapping by pulling the string beyond the opposing fret-board edge around the 2nd fret. 
• Pull the end of the string towards the center of the headstock and down. 
• This creates a crimp in the string just as it exits the tuner peg.
• Maintain constant tension on the string now. 
• Wrap the string under and back over the string. • Tightly create a... more »

HAND BUILT GUITARS - WHY?

In the last 10 years there has been a huge resurgence in the art of luthiery (guitar building). People often ask me why that is? I believe its due to consumer demand. Not a demand for more guitars rather demand from a fast growing sub-culture consisting of people that are simply fed up with corporate, high profit, mass produced, low quality goods. A perfect example of this same sentiment is the craft beer industry. Just as people are tired of being offered cheap flavorless beer, many of us are tired of listening to and playing low quality mass produced instruments.
