Gailen Mapes31,893Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Nikon Camera G-K - 8 of 14Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 500 members.I am now sharing one circle per day, for the reason see:https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/posts/RrPNTzHhQuHAs before these circles are photographers that I admire. They also have "more photos, less spam." There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity).Be sure to get all 14 circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to June 15th for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting June 1st.)I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday #handpickedcircles   #sharedcircles#sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles#pixelworld   #pixelworldcircle #circleoftheday #bestsharedcircle#thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle  Note: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +Gailen Mapes .  Thanks for your cooperation.2013-06-22 12:04:22251099

Barry Blanchard555,753My Central California Photographers Circle. You may already be in this, and if you want out.. just let me know. You may know someone who is not in this circle, just let me know. You may want to be in this circle, just let me know. In order to be in this circle, you must be somewhere along the Central California coast. This is the circle that I share to when weather conditions appear to be decent for coastal photography. So, if you live north to Marin, south to Big Sur or east to Sacramento... and would like to be included (pinged) when something happens... let me know. I will update this circle over the next week then share it from time to time.~BB2012-10-02 16:55:175036126

You deserve to achieve what you seek from the heart sooner, rather than later.+john adams added me to this amazing circle of photographers, that has some pretty amazing people in it that I follow. So I added the entire circle to check out the rest and suggest you do the same. If you like what they bring to your stream keep them, if you don't delete them for now but save their name, you just never know how they will fit in later on down the road.2012-08-14 12:44:24499231224

In here you will find great creative photographer's from all over the globe. If you want to spice up your feed with some stunning photography, you really should add Part 1 and 2 of the APC to your circles. I am honored and very proud to present and promote this circle.Do YOU want to be included in the next revision of the APC? Then do the following:1. Reshare BOTH parts (1 & 2) of the APC in your feed. Start with this before you ask for inclusion. WHY??? you cry out! Beacuse... If you want to be promoted in this circle, it is just fair that you help promote your fellow photographer's as well. You all benefit from that. If you don't like that, it's fine, but do NOT ask for inclusion. No resahre, no inclusion –– NO exceptions.2. Let me know in the comments that you wish to be included.3. Make sure that you share your own original photography in your feed. (If there are too many reshares of other peoples' work, YouTube clips, GIFS etc., I might not add you to the circle. The APC is a validated quality circle that should bring people great imagery to their feeds.NOTE! If you see that I have plussed your comment, then you know that I have added you to the next revision of the APC. I didn't PLUS your comment? Make sure that you have reshared BOTH circle posts and let me know that you did so.Enjoy....Cheers and enjoy the ETPC.2012-05-08 20:38:52500007

Nikon Shooters4,635Nikon Shooters Circle 4We only share one circle at a time, since you can only add 500 people per day to your circles. Once we've shared them all, we start the rotation again at Circle 1. The Nikon Shooters Circles and Page continues to grow. We now have over 4,500 members! There are currently 10 11 Nikon Shooter circles. There's a 500 person for adding people to your circles each day, so we've limited the circles to 450 each so they're easy to share and to add to your circles. To be included one of the Nikon Shooter circles, you must first add the Nikon Shooters page to your circles. (That's a G+ rule for pages, a page cannot add you to their circles unless they're already in your circles.) Once you do that, you'll be added to our circles on our next update. The page can be found here: https://plus.google.com/b/114191697554873400049/114191697554873400049Once you circle that page, you'll be added to the Nikon Shooter circles during our next update. #Nikon, #Photography , #Camera2012-04-06 14:28:34449334

I have finally put together my 1st circle of photographers that I personally find inspiring. Nearly every genre of photography is represented here. These are individuals that are constantly providing photography work that speaks to me. They are hand picked and all active on G+. It includes full time professionals and amatures alike...all that create compelling photography. Everyone in this circle has less then 30k followers (although a few are very very close) and many have just a few hundred. Please enjoy...I know I have!If you like what you find in this circle, please share it with your followers to help these individuals reach a wider audience. "Half Dome at Sunset" from the Glacier Point. Here is a new image in progress - still working on it, but wanted to share. This is a multi-shot panorama captured from Glacier Point. The sky was really that intense that day - it started out looking like there wasn't going to be a sunset and it just opened up and lit up the valley for a few majestic minutes! Let me know if this works for you!   Copyright John Harrison Photography — at Yosemite National Park.

"Hangar One at NASA Ames Moffett Field" We went to the open house to NASA Ames 75th Anniversary. This was my first time going inside the hangar. This is panorama captured with my iPhone 6 from one end to the other. From Wikipaedia - Hangar One is one of the world's largest freestanding structures, covering 8 acres to house naval airships. Pretty fun day and taking a few pictures as well! The best part was going with the family and getting there early before the crowds!

"Edge of the World"   "Edge of the World" Northern California Coastline at Sunset, Bean Hollow State Beach Tafoni. This seascape was captured along the Northern California coastline near Half Moon Bay and Bean Hollow State Beach. These Tafoni rock formations are just amazing as they twist and turn with pockets that look like brains. This is a 30 second exposure where the water has turned soft and silky with the sun setting in the background. This image spoke to me as it felt like the edge of the world with the ocean just touching it. This is a re-process of the image that I really liked and I brought out the tones of the sunset and shadows in the rocks. Let me know what you think! Thanks! "Barn, Tree and Fields at Sunset"  Driving along the backroads in Germany this summer I found a perfect setting to enjoy sunset!  The grass fields together with this barn and tree felt like the perfect setting.  Not a single person around while nice clouds passed overhead.  Just a simple composition that made for a perfect sunset while traveling over in Europe.  The only thing missing was some fresh bread, meats and cheese with some red wine -- Definitely some better planning next time!  Taken an hour outside of Munich, Germany on the way to Neuschwanstein Castle.  Nikon D800, Nikon 24-70mm @ 35mm and  f/8.  ISO 100 and 1/13 second.   Please share or let me know what you think!  #sunset #europe   #germany   #landscape #landscapephotography #pastoral #calming #tranquil #barn

I hate to see an awesome sunset when I can't be out shooting!  I would rather be somewhere like Yosemite or in some other fantastic setting instead!  I decided to try out the new Hyperlapse app from Instagram and captured this amazing sunset while I was in Chapel Hill, North Carolina last week. Very cool app to try out if you haven't already. Captured on the iPhone 5s.  Edited with iMovie. What do you think?!!

Nicely done.  Be interesting to hear what you did for stabilization.  Is this raw footage or did you use some plugins for smoothing.

"Cathedral Rocks and Spires in Summer" in Yosemite National Park.   Driving along the valley floor in summer might bring visions of thousands of visitors to some... but there are still those places where not a single person can be seen!  This is Cathedral Rocks and Spires and this clearing is an easy pull-out along the Northside drive.  A perfect spot for a picnic!  Rock climbers enjoy these rock to climb!  I believe Lower and Higher Cathedral Spires are there in the center while Higher and Middle Cathedral Rock are on the right.  Spires Gully is in the middle between the Cathedral Spires and Rocks.  There is a climbing route along there aptly named "The Crucifix" that sounds like fun (you can see info on that 5.12b climb here - http://www.mountainproject.com/v/the-crucifix/106140318)  Feel free to share the image and + it if you enjoy it!

"Tranquil" This scene really caught my eye while shooting along the Gorge on the Washington side near Panther Creek.  The flowing water cascading down with green moss around and the light glowing in the trees behind.  This image is still a work in progress -- let me know if you enjoy it.  I really liked the way the water curved around on both sides and the soft texture of the water was captured.  You can just hear the rushing of the water coming by!  Just an amazing amount of detail is in the image as you can see the pine needles on the moss covered rock in the front.  A little about the capture - This is captured with the new Nikon D810 (now the most amazing camera for landscape photographers!)  Nikon D810 and Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 at 14mm.   3 images.  ISO 125.  f/13, 1.3 seconds for the primary exposure, .6 seconds for the optimum texture for the water.   1/3 second to keep fromblowing out ... more »

I had an awesome time last weekend shooting waterfalls in Oregon and Washington with +Mark Metternich  What an awesome guide! We were deep in the middle of the creek flowing shooting with my new Nikon D810! I had two goals for the trip - capture some awesome waterfall pics and don't submerge the new Nikon D810 in the water! I did pretty well on both accounts although some close encounters on the dunking part! Fun time scrambling down the hills to the lower falls. I'll be posting some of the images I captured a little later! — at Panther Creek Falls, Wa.

California Wildflowers for you! Going to the farmers market on the weekends is one of the things our family loves to do. These are some farm fresh flowers I captured. Let me know what you think -- anyone know what these are?!?! The fresh fruit and vegetables, and flowers everywhere are great to see and bring home. We usually can't go without a stop to the Kettle Corn guy and the Crepe place!

Have a great and safe 4th of July! What are you doing this weekend?! Fireworks? Hiking? Yosemite?! We went to Glacier National Park for the 4th of July a few years ago and it was really fantastic! Being such a large park, no one was really in anyone one location! Highly recommend that! I can't imagine how many people are in Yosemite - Too many for me!! This flag was captured in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC. Enjoy!  — in Washington, DC.

Another firework show is upon us and I am sure many of you would love some tips on getting that hero shot. I have an old tutorial from last year that I put together to help you all out in the post processing stages, aka photoshop!

Check it out here on the Planet Unicorn Blog: http://planetunicorn.co/basic-fireworks-tutorial-using-photoshop/

*This shot however is a single frame with zero compositing!

"Along the Path in the Cotswolds" Another image I captured in the Cotswold last weekend. This image is from Burford in Oxfordshire, just between Oxford and Cheltenham. It is hard to keep all the tourists out of the pictures at such an amazing spot on a summer weekend! Timing and patience and you can pull it off. Such a nice place to walk around and then have a beer at a pub along the street. I could have sat on that bench for hours! I could easily see having a nice summer house here in the Cotswolds!  — in Burford, United Kingdom, Oxford, Oxfordshire

"Cotswolds Doorway"  I spent another amazing weekend in the Cotswolds and went to Burford.  This village is the essence of the Cotswolds with such amazing architecture and every doorfront along the street is totally different with flowers and greenery that are amazing.  I love the windows that are all different and the reflections of the trees.  The curves of the arches and the solid wood door.  I'll post more of these doorways from this classic Cotswold village.  Add this to another one of those must visit places when you are abroad.  Just an hour and a half from London, make sure you stop in to visit Oxford as well.   Have you been there or have other favorites in the Cotswolds?!   Copyright John Harrison Photography

"European Postcard Village at Sunset" Hallstat Austria is an amazing place I was able to visit this summer. Nestled in the Austrian Alps, this looks like a postcard village just along the lakes. I stayed in a hotel next to the church and woke up to the church bells at 6am and a beautiful view! Another one of those amazing places you should try to visit when in Europe!    Copyright John Harrison Photography — in Hallstatt, Austria.

"Tropical Paradise" Grounds of the Grand Hyatt in Poipu, Kauai with flowers, Lei's and waterfall and stream. The Grand Hyatt in Poipu is the ultimate place to vacation, honeymoon or just visit for cocktails by the pool. Located near Shipwreck beach with tiki torches all around, the Grand Hyatt has pools, restaurants, outdoor bars, and waterways that just go on forever to give the true experience of a Hawaiian paradise! The Grand Hyatt is special to us as we spent our honeymoon there and remembered every minute! You can't go wrong. Remember to stop by and visit even if you aren't staying there!  Kauai in general is amazing place and this is one stop along those to visit.

"Stars on the Beach" It was a nice clear weekend down along the Northern California coastline this past weekend that enabled me to capture the stars above the beach at Pajaro Dunes Resort where we stayed with friends over the Memorial Day weekend. It was nice to hav a quiet house on the beach and just hearing the waves crashing with the stars above. I thought I would try this as a vertical panorama or vertiscape. The stars just go on forever! Enjoy and share! Copyright John Harrison Photography — at Pajaro Dunes Resort.

This Sunday I'll have this and lots more images at the Saratoga Rotary Art and Wine Show! The show is Sunday from 9am to 5pm at West Valley College. I have a google maps like to where I think my booth will be -- https://goo.gl/maps/Vd2Lu This is "Entrance to the Stones in Concert" and is one of my favorite images. Something about the arrangement of how all the different types of rocks and textures come together.   John Harrison Photography  — at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve.

"Late Afternoon along the Na Pali Coast" This is one of my favorite images that is above our fireplace. A collector just purchased a 30" x 45" metal print so I had to re-share since it has been a while. Let me know what you think?! This was the shot I had been looking for - beautiful green wrinkly cliffs, lush blue water with touches of Kauai red dirt in there. Kauai is a special place as my wife and I had our honeymoon there. Ever since we were there, I knew I wanted to go back and bring part of Kauai for my walls here in California. On a follow-up trip to Kauai, I charted a little R22 2 person helicopter for a private charter to get this image. It was so small my son wanted to know where the rest of the helicopter was! (it is really tight in there and I bumped the control stick a few times while being preoccupied with shooting!) It took about 5 reschedules of the helicopter trip to... more »

(it is really tight in there and I bumped the control stick a few times while being preoccupied with shooting!) It took about 5 reschedules of the helicopter trip to find the right weather conditions while I was in Kauai - that was the image that I had visualized in my head that I wanted. It was either rainy or cloudy along the coast as weather is really unpredictable in Kauai! I finally pulled the trigger. 2 hours of flying back and forth to get the right lighting conditions and it was right! I had two collectors with houses in Kauai who pre-purchased images from the Napali coast before I ever set out! This looks fantastic large on canvas but even better on Metal or my new HD Acrylic Flex mounted images. This was captured a BorrowLenses.com Nikon D3S and Nikon 28-70 f/2.8 lens. This is shot at 1/800 second and f/4.5. "Lunar Eclipse over the Golden Gate Bridge" in SAN FRANCISCO. I thought it timely to share my image of the lunar eclipse over the Golden Gate Bridge. This was a few years ago!!!  This started out at 3am as +Xavier Cohen  and I drove up to San Francisco to stake out spots along the shore to get the eclipse over the Golden Gate Bridge. This shot ended up making the cover of USA Today's online edition! Looks fantastic printed as well!  We were not sure of the weather (fog in San Francisco!) and each of us went back and forth whether we bail and just head back to bed!  We continued on up and found a place along the waterfront near Crissy Field. The moon was high in the sky when I started shooting and I was trying to calculate where the moon would be to get it on top of the bridge tower. This was one of the last shots I got of the lunar eclipse before it sank into the fog along the coast!! Perf... more »

"California Poppies near Yosemite National Park" I love nothing more than spring in Yosemite as the poppies start coming out!! Depending on the year the poppies can go from being just a few patches to golden carpets from the bottom to the top of hills! These were captured along highway 140 into Yosemite a couple of years ago when it was just breathtaking to see how many poppies were everywhere! Who is ready to go to Yosemite?! This is a panorama comprised of 6 images to make a poppy panorama! Please share if you enjoy and share if you make it to YOSEMITE!  Copyright John Harrison Photography— at Yosemite National Park.

"Denver Skyline at Night" I was out in Denver Colorado last week and headed out to grab some shots of the skyline at night!  I'll have to grab a sunrise there sometime and get the mountains in the background. Lots of lights and cool buildings glowing in the night. The hockey game at the Pepsi Center area (where the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Mammoth play) had just let out and there was a steady stream of cars coming towards me. Definitely a nice city that I will have to explore more next time.

"Edge of the World" This seascape was captured along the Northern California coastline near Half Moon Bay and Bean Hollow State Beach. Thanks! "Stars over El Capitan" I went up to Yosemite with the family last weekend and did venture out to take a few photos after everyone in the valley was asleep! Nothing like walking around El Capitan meadow with not a single person there! I took the opportunity to lay down in the meadow and just stare up at the stars! Ahhhhhhh! I highly recommend it! It was fairly dark as the moon wasn't supposed to rise until late morning. This image was captured on my Nikon D800 and my favorite Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. This was shot @ ISO 6400, f/2.8 and 30 second exposure.     Copyright John Harrison Photography— at Yosemite National Park.

First time sharing on the @Yosemite Photography group!  "Winter Sunset at Valley View in Yosemite National Park" I captured this image in February a few years ago in similar conditions as the weather is there currently in Yosemite - rain and clouds down in the valley with snow at the higher elevations. This day we headed out thinking that it was raining and no chance of a sunset. As we headed out the clouds started to clear with the sun poking through. Each minute just started to get better and better! Like a symphony unfolding in mother nature's concert hall - the drama and excitement changing each minute in Yosemite. El Capitan totally covered in clouds one minute, wide open the next. No sun one minute, orange, pink and blue the next! What an amazing time. Hoping to head up to Yosemite and catch another clearing storm! The great thing about taking photographs in Yosemite is the weather,... more »

El Capitan totally covered in clouds one minute, wide open the next.  No sun one minute, orange, pink and blue the next!   What an amazing time.  Hoping to head up to Yosemite and catch another clearing storm!   Copyright John Harrison Photography___

"Sunrise at the Monterey Bay Aquarium" I was able to spend the night at the Monterey Bay Aquarium a few years ago with the YMCA Adventures Guides with my daughter. Nothing better than hanging out with your daughter amongst the otters and Jellyfish! We slept on the floor on sleeping bags and mats all along the exhibits and main viewing tanks. Of course, I think I am overstating it when I say 'sleep' as 100 dads and daughters neatly layed out in one big area can be a little hard to sleep in! We were up EARLY as you can tell, but I looked out and the sky was glowing! I grabbed my camera and caught the glow of the sky reflected in the clouds, ocean and buildings along Cannery Row. If you haven't been - you should make Monterey and the Aquarium one of your must see stops! One of our favorite things to do are the biking/hiking trails that go all along the coast. Things to do in Yosemite National Park - Visit The Ansel Adams Gallery! One of my favorite things to do is to visit the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park. You can see some amazing images not only from Ansel Adams, but other amazing photographers like Charlie Cramer, +Michael Frye Photography  Keith Walklet, and William Neill. Whether you are just taking your first pictures with an iPhone or serious photographer, you can view some amazing images and take in a bit of history.  You can talk to folks to find out about places to take pictures around Yosemite - you never know what tips you might get!  You can also sign up for the various photo walks there as well.   There are gifts and books for sale as well as small paintings and crafty gifts. It is located right in the Yosemite village near the visitors center and close to Degnan's Deli. That is me in my SmugMug red hat - easy to spot!Hop... more »

"Hidden Yosemite Waterfall" Yosemite National Park has lots of big scenes but trying to find those smaller images and amazing shots is always a goal of mine. This is one of those hidden waterfalls when there is a rainy season and water is gushing out of every crack and crevice.  These are usually called ephemeral waterfalls.  Unfortunately, this year isn't looking that way since we are in a drought.  Waterfalls are one of my favorite thing to shoot - the way it flows over the colorful rocks and creates these nice patterns. Trying to find the perfect angle, shutterspeed and composition is always a challenge. Can you hear the water flowing and feel the mist in your face?!       Copyright John Harrison Photography  — at Yosemite National Park.

"Winter Sunset in Illinois" Beautiful colors in the sky at sunset while waiting for my flight. I had a business trip out to Illinois and Wisconsin last week. It was a little COLD!!! I will admit, this 70 degree winter weather in California is something I am used to!! It was a low of 15 and high of 30 with 6 inches of snow on the ground - good weather from what they tell me!! This picture was out the window of the airport on the cold ice-covered tarmac. I love a good sunset where ever I am and got a few pictures with my Iphone 5S here (the best camera is the one you have with you). Hope your holiday is a nice and warm one and those of you traveling have good travels! — in Bloomington, IL.
