My Grandfather, Frank Berdan. 91 years old and a WWII Veteran. He worked many years in construction as a crane operator and helped build several dams in central Washington. He began raising fruit crops on Wenatchee Heights back in the late 1950's. One of his favorite introductions is “I'll be Frank and friendly”. We've camped, hunted and fished together. Gotten trucks stuck in the mud and unstuck with a board. Burned stuff beside the road and talked to neighbors as they stopped on their way home. Welded busted equipment and saved good bolts with a thread file. Discussed people, politics, wars and women. Two of my favorite things he has taught me were how to talk to animals and how to make songs about our dogs with verses mostly involving toilet humor. I don't care what those wanted posters at the post office say, he's a pretty good guy in my eyes. ;)

I attended two funerals yesterday. Each for a man who will be greatly missed by their families and friends. One of them I knew well, the other I had never met. During the services, the message from both of their services was this: Their families and friends knew without a doubt that they were loved by these men.

They knew this because these men had spent quality time with them; taken the time to listen to them; lived life with them; told them they loved them. These men did not let the tiny problems in their lives occupy the big spaces of their hearts. They made the time to spend with their loved ones letting those moments fill the large spaces in their hearts and memories, leaving the little problems of life to be just what they were... little.

Now set aside those pesky little things, and never allow those you love... to ever forget that you do.

Wow. Some people go too far for when it comes to their team losing, or their response when the team they dislike wins. Yes, you all have freedom of speech, so say what ever you want. But you should always think about the consequences of what you are going to say.

When you personally attack a fan of the team you hate, and you happen to be a well known employee of a company I patronize... don't be surprised when I stop using your employer for services I can get elsewhere. I earned my freedom of speech, so you can rest assured I will happily let your employer know why I have stopped using their services.

It's just a game. It's entertainment for the majority of us. You need to grow up and think before you say or write vile things about other humans. I don't care how famous you think you are or how many sycophantic followers you have attached to your rear end, you are not... more »

So far I am really digging +onOne Software's Perect Photo Suite 8 Beta (2).  I bought Suite 7 right off the bat on its release and stopped using it almost as fast. For me it was terribly unreliable and just felt clunky. It was just crashtastic on my old PC that was over the minimum system requirements (but not by much). Not having that same experience with 8. Runs smooth. No glitches, hiccups, or crashes yet. I have processed a bunch of photos through it and suite 7 side by side. I have to say I'm still not feeling it with suite 7, even on my new machine. But with suite 8 I definitely seem to be liking and using it more and more. You guys made a big step in the right direction with this version. The fixes in the portraits module are by far my most used and have saved me loads of time compared to my old way of touching up faces in Lightroom. As soon I get my current clients all processed and packaged I'll be making a more in depth look at the layers and B&W. But from what I have seen on a short whirl through each module, I like the new features and changes that are immediately noticeable.  ___

Do you dig mountaineering and alpine shots? +Wilfried Haferland has what you need. I dropped by his profile today just because I am missing snow right now. This reminds me, I need new boots for snowshoeing this winter.

Bernina Ridge Waves

Published in my blog: http://haferlandphotography.com/bernina-ridge-waves/

Selected as one of the 9 TOP Google+ Photographs for May 8, 2013 by http://www.photoextract.com/plus-extract/2013/5/8 - Thanks +Jarek Klimek!

This snowy ridge leads "down" from Piz Bernina after the ascend via the famous Bianco Ridge. For many alpinists it's the choice for ascent and descent as well, but if you can, enter Grison's highest peak via Bianco Ridge. However, the ridge shown here is tasty as well.

You notice the two tracks in the foreground, melting into a single one later on: It's a passing-by-area. Too often you're stuck on narrow ridges 'cause of other alpinists and have no chance to pass them - here you have ;-).

I really liked the track, following the distinct wave form of the snow. It was a real pleasure to be there with +Daniel Arndt.

Hope you like my image!

This large plume of smoke started to build up at about 2pm today. Things aren't looking good for the firefighting progress on this burn. It is pretty rough country to get around in.

Photo was taken from Wheeler Ridge looking south easterly towards the Chelan and Kittitas County line. The fire is burning in the Colockum pass region between Wenatchee and Ellensburg.
