Hey Google+: sorry I've been a bit MIA of late. I've been giving Twitter some overdue love and attention. I really do love sharing thoughts and impression here, though.
Most recently, I've been sharing some haiku that I write for personal journaling. I've been writing haiku on and off for the last four years, but I don't generally share it on social media because some of it is pretty personal.
A few people I really respect suggested that I would benefit from sharing some of my poems more publicly, so I started doing that on Twitter. Fewer people follow me there, so I suppose it was a low-risk way of figuring out whether or not my poetry was any good. As it turns out, many of my poems are indeed no good at all. Some are okay. Every now and then, a good one squeaks out.
But none of that really matters: haiku, like most things that are good for us, is a p... more »

If you've ever wondered how your Google Maps are made, this is an awesome and very accurate read. It should give you a greater appreciation for the map you use on your phone or in your web browser every day..

... on second thought maybe it's surprising it took this long for Mario #cipollini to cast himself in his own Bond movie.

Recently, we sat down with Nick, Sonder to talk about how he uses SketchUp Pro and LayOut throughout the life of an architectural design project, using one 3D model as a basis for interior and exterior detailing, as well as for robust and precise construction documents. Check out his detail sheets! #architecture #contracting #SketchUp

Earlier this week, my friend +Adam Shepler recommended this piece from +The New York Times. Ironically, I've been too "busy" to sit down and read it until this morning. It's a compelling critique of the frenetic lifestyle that seems to have dominated the last few years of my life.
I am fortunate to live in Colorado, where high country escapes happen almost every weekend (and sometimes after work), but I am saddened that I always feel time-starved and that it is so difficult to piece together quality time with both close friends and new acquaintances. Along with some phenomenal writing, this article poses an interesting alternative: plan less, idle more, and take it all in stride. Who's to say that we don't have time to give it a try?

Getting ready for a week off the grid and looking for fiction recommendations.
I enjoy novels with a sense of humor, that don't over invest in character development through inner monologues, and that don't take 100 pages to get off the ground. Any suggestions?

Just watched the Maps demo at #WWDC (98:40): I was very impressed by how Apple has integrated navigation, local search, and reviews into Siri and other iOS elements. Flyover is beautiful, of course, and I'm eager to play around. Greyed out 3D buildings seem to be done well; I can't tell if there is more detail than Google Maps, but there does seem to be more flexiblity and control for the user in rotating the base map. I also have questions around data quality and coverage, API access, and customization but my overall impression is that iOS devices just got a major #cartography upgrade. Congrats to the map team at #Apple!

We've been enamored with +Jim Leggitt's 'hand-rendering' style for a while now, but Jim has an equal gift for explaining his methods. This video is a great overview of his process for giving 3D renderings a hand-crafted touch. Learn more at DrawingShortcuts.com.
