Rodney Pike2,538,148Best Artist Circle on G+It's been a long time since I've shared this artist circle. It's way overdue. You'll find some of the finest artists and some of the most influential people on Google+ here. My newest addition is a friend from facebook, +Shannon Maer. Please welcome her and share!!2014-06-11 22:02:2248615825
Mario Rotta15,308This is a circle in which I included a lot of excellent photographers: but most of them start from pictures to create visual design effects. So, this circle may represent a list of people working on the edge between photography and art. I like that experimental edge :-)2014-05-22 06:00:41400016

Ardith Goodwin39,738New to Google+ Starter Circle for Art PeepsTo all of you who are in our community but are new to Google+ I wanted to share a 'small' circle of folks you can follow that tend to have a love of arts, share art related content, and welcome new followers/conversations within their streams. This group is to help you get your stream active, explore what it means to follow 'strangers', and begin interacting with others, if you so choose, here on Google+. If you are brand new, let me caution you to not approach Google+ like FB because you will be confused and frustrated. I like to think of Google+ as a great blend of Twitter, Stumble Upon, Blogger, and Youtube. The nature of this network is that you follow people who post content that you are interested in reading. Just because you follow someone DOES NOT MEAN that they will follow you back and that is perfectly ok. And, just because you follow them it doesn't mean they will see what YOU post. They will only see what YOU post if they follow you back. I have included several folks from this community within this circle, as well as who is a Google community supervisor here, and a great gal! I encourage you to add more folks as you see them share and get to know them here. At any time, you can also remove someone from this circle or add to it, as you see fit. If you are lost or need some guidance for Google+, don't hesitate to ask for help, many of us LOVE to help newbies. 2013-01-04 01:43:0253724

Samantha Villenave510,146My 112 of 2012 (Who's in Yours?)Face it, if we're here, on G+, we probably spend a little way too much time on the Internet. I'll be the first to admit that being my case.These are the people whom I have interacted with the most, and have interacted the most with me for the past year. It's a mixed bag of a circle, but I can honestly say that I am very blessed to follow, and know a bit, each and every one of them.In this circle you'll find artists (painters, drawers, sculptors, illustrators and photographers), art lovers, designers, writers, geeks/developers, gamers, hangouters, googlers, and then some.  If you received a notification, then yeah, that means you're in it. And I just want to say Happy New Year to each of you. And thanks for the good times. I'm glad to know all of you, and I'm glad that I can even call some of you friends.If you aren't in it, don't worry about that too much. It isn't me, it's google's circle relevancy algorithm that picked these people, according to the time we've spent emailing, chatting, +1ing, commenting, and hangouting. You may want to check your own circles to see who your most relevant people are!Oh, and why not hashtag it  #my112of2012  if you do decide to share your own? It could be fun. :) #sharedcircles   #sharedpubliccircles  2013-01-01 19:13:0711248563

G+ with Brushes1,928As I am returning to my regular second-half-of-week shift on +G+ with Brushes , I once again re-share our artists' circle, now 93 people strong. This is the circle where we look for paintings and drawings to share.Please, if you are an artist working in traditional (non-digital) media, and you are not in this circle, and you do want your work to be occasionally re-shared on our page, do the following:1. Add the page to your circles, if you haven't already (it's not because we want to pump up our followers' numbers, but just because we cannot add to a circle anyone who hasn't added us first).2. Tell us that you are an artist and want to be in this circle, so that we don't miss you.3. That's it, basically, but if you feel like it, you might also spread the word about our page to your followers... :)Yours truly,+Lena Levin 2012-10-18 18:00:1293646

Samantha Villenave415,621I call this circle "Artcest".These people are my tribe, my love, the delight of my stream. This circle contains the 99 (plus moi) non-photog artists that I interact the most with, according to Google's algorithm. If you aren't in here, it isn't that I don't adore you, it's just that these peeps and I've got history, interaction, and mutual drooling and conversing over paintings and the like.I can guarantee you that each is a delight to follow. Some are NSFW, c'mon, but you don't care about that, because you know what you want to see in your stream here, it's innovation, beauty, paintings, sculpture, illustration, and mad creative experimentation. Each of these friends share primarily posts concerning art, whether their own and others. Certain among them are, IMHO, at the core of the art community here on G+. They're its central nervous system. They bring the internal into the external, here, on our not so tiny corner of the Interwebz.To be consumed, without moderation. #art   #circleshare  2012-10-15 06:55:32100592651

First Friday Art Walk2,028This is the circle of artists who have participated in the  #FirstFridayArtWalk  this weekend. To all of you, who are in this circle, thank you, I cannot say it enough times, thank you to everyone who brought such beauty and delight into our streams, for the first Google+ #FirstFridayArtWalk  this weekend.Seeing so many shares and reshares of paintings, drawings, illustrations, sculpture and other mediums really moved me. What moved me most of all was your  enthusiasm, passion, and connectivity with the community, and how you promoted and shared art, your own, and that of others here, on Google+. The hashtag was trending several times over the weekend, which means your shares and artwork were certainly discovered by others. I wanted to find an easy way for us to connect, and this seemed the simplest way, by putting all of you who participated into a circle. There are a few that I could not include, as they haven't circled the page, and a page will only allow me to include those that have. I hope I haven't missed anyone, but if I have, or if you participated and are not in here, please feel free to comment and let me know, so that I can make sure that you are in the next one. I would love to hear your thoughts about your #FirstFridayArtWalk  experience, positive, negative, anything.My experience: I was sincerely moved, several times over the weekend, and actually brought to tears by a couple of artists' words and shares. My biggest regret was that things went so fast that I rarely had the time to comment on your posts, and I would have loved to take time to discuss on nearly each one. But I loved observing your conversations, connections, oohs and ahs.I was so grateful, as well, to +Lena Levin for her sensitivity to my last minute S.O.S. Her management of this page was a huge help, and more than that, a necessity my little brain hadn't seen coming until it was nearly too late. Her continuing communication and reshares from this page, while I was asleep over here in Europe, are a huge reason for the success of this undertaking. I cannot say it enough, thank you Lena, and thank you, to all of you. So artists, what do you say, do we make this a regular, monthly thing?:)<3+Samantha Villenave EDIT: Please add +Jimmie Fisher, +Marie Hélène Visconti, +Susanne Ramharter, +Roberta Murray, +Chuck2012-10-07 07:47:2458381930

Abigail Markov12,495Meet The G+ Artists #MeetTheGPlusArtists  This circle, plus a few, was compiled from the #MeetTheGPlusArtists  event yesterday - the favorite artists of Artists and dedicated art lovers alike. I went ahead and compiled this small circle for the sake of ease; for those who want active, working artists who share their work here on G+ but are less inclined to go through the entire tag stream and add them individually.In addition to the 39 artists suggested, I have included three community pages that are central to the quickly-growing traditional arts community here on G+ for those of you who want to continue to find the best of art on G+, the emerging artists, and who want a deeper look into what goes into the art shared here: +G+ with Brushes , +Friday Art Critique and +Art+Talk.+G+ with Brushes  is the champion of the Traditional Artists here on G+, managed by +Terrill Welch and +Lena Levin as the starting point for anyone new to G+ who wants to find some of the best art on G+. These two artists scour the active arts community searching for the best of traditional art here. Whether you want more gorgeous art in your stream, or you are an artist and wish to know more, circle +G+ with Brushes and let them know you have. They are always looking for more artists, and more amazing art.For those of you who are artists, who love art, who want to learn more about art, or who want to see the thought and work that goes into a piece of art, +Friday Art Critique belongs in your circles. A long-running weekly event here on G+, +Friday Art Critique is the brain child of +Max Rubenacker and ss where artists of all walks (from traditional to photographic to digital) submit work for critique and evaluation to their peers, and to the supporting fine arts community. Many of the heavy hitters of our arts community got their start here - it is the emerging artist gallery of G+. If you want to know about the best of the best before they are the best - or if you want to work to becom2012-09-27 16:59:414211715
Peter Fraterdeus867For your Google+ enjoyment ;-) This circle has people who post about art.I haven't seen all of the posts, or know the people, but they've been curated into the original circle by the person who initially shared the circle.It's a good way to get something of value into your home 'stream'. If you want to follow a particular person, you can add them to your own circles.You can always remove this circle, or edit how much of the content from that circle shows up in your stream...2012-09-17 11:53:54216807
Karine Freymann5,902Painters under spotlightAll of them fill my stream almost daily with artworks, all of them share their work publicly, which demands courage to be confronted to critique...and we all know how it can be hard. They're passionate and I have an infinite respect for people who create. They all have different styles but all of them express feelings, ideas...and put them on canvas for you to have a read. Enjoy and be respectful!If by mistake, you're not in that circle and feel you belong to it, say the word and I will make my best to include you for the next circle share.2012-09-13 06:25:14146754

Many of the people in this circle are among the most interactive people on G+. Contribute top their themes, get to know them,  I think it will enhance your G+ experience.Best Regards+Charles Lupica ────────The circle has been checked for accuracy by most of the involved curators.  I would also like to thank +Steve Gill +Jason Borg +Manuella Betaille for their help in checking the existing themes.There are now over 400 themes, theme pages, and perhaps as many as 1000 curators but not all themes are created equal. I often talk about what it means to me to curate a theme and how I view things. To me, the best themes are the ones that have highly interactive curators. The vast majority also have a page to compliment their theme. A theme page is a great place for the curators to share information about the theme and to list the name or names of the people currently curating the theme. IMHO, a good theme page should provide information about the theme, how to participate, and who is curating the theme.  Most theme pages share some of the best work.  A few share all submissions.There are many themes that were created and then abandoned by their creator so I wanted to know, "Which themes rock?". I asked the G+ community to tell me which themes have highly interactive curators and an active community. This circle is based on community feedback and my personal view of what it means to have a theme that rocks.  ────────A good place to start if you are new to themes is perhaps the about page of +Monochrome Monday or the about page of +Daily Photography Themes +Daily Fine Art Themes.  If there are any themes that you feel rock that aren't mentioned, be sure to add a comment to this post, include the name of the theme, what day of the week the theme takes place or daily, the name of the page, and the name of the curators.  If there is no page, please state this.  Themes without a page are less likely to be listed but some very interactive themes don't have a page. 2012-08-29 13:45:173048691106
G+ with Brushes1,642I am re-sharing our current version of "Artists" circle.Please, if you work in traditional media, have our page circled and would like your work to be shared here occasionally, mention this in the comments, so we might include you in the circle.It would make the work of searching for paintings and drawings to share so much easier for us! Thanks in advance,+Lena Levin 2012-08-21 23:40:52731235

Sorry! :)At nearly 1000, my art circle is bursting at the seams. It's too big to share on it's own anymore, so I thought I'd break it down into several smaller circles, to share over a period of days.These people fill my streams with visual imagery, sometimes beautiful, experimental, evocative... each one has a unique perspective and practice. Most of these people are painters, drawers, illustrators, sculptors, etc. (I generally keep my photogs in a separate circle, with a few exceptions, for good measure. So yes, this circle is a different beast.)The desire to connect with other artists is what brought me to G+, and it is a huge part of why I am still here.**************************************************************************A note about this circle, and my sharing it.Every time I share a circle, I get a backlash of anger from people that are not in it. Honestly, it is to the point that I rarely share circles.Please know that this circle is not all of the artists that you should be following here on Google+, it is simply the artists that I follow. I have chosen them for personal reasons, and enjoy following each of them. I am sharing them because I believe that you may also enjoy following them.This circle reflects my choices, of whom to follow, please be respectful of that. If you are an artist, and not in my circles, please feel free to say hi and let me know in the comments, so that I can mosey on over to your profile and see your work! #art #creativity #sharedcircles  2012-08-18 08:10:119417322

If you want to be in the next version of this Art circle, please comment this post and tell me a little about the stuff you make.By the way (most of you guys know this already), if you're an artist here on Google+, you should absolutely check out +Moan Lisa and the circles that are shared there :)Best of luck to you all, and have a nice week!2012-06-18 15:11:24100303

I often talk about what it means to me to curate a theme and how I view things. To me, the best themes are the ones that have highly interactive curators. The vast majority also have a page to compliment their theme. A theme page is a great place for the curators to share information about the theme and to list the name or names of the people currently curating the theme. IMHO, a good theme page should provide information about the theme, how to participate, and who is curating the theme.There are many themes that were created and then abandoned by their creator so I wanted to know, "Which themes rock?". I asked the G+ community to tell me which themes have highly interactive curators and an active community. This circle is based on community feedback and my personal view of what it means to have a theme that rocks.A good place to start if you are new to themes is perhaps the about page of +Monochrome Monday or the about page of +Daily Fine Art Themes.  This circle is part of an ongoing series and will eventually include, "Charles Lupica's guide to themes on G+™".*If there are any themes that you feel rock that aren't mentioned, be sure to add a comment to this post, include the name of the theme, what day of the week the theme takes place or daily, the name of the page, and the name of the curators.  If there is no page, please state this.  Themes without a page are less likely to be listed but some very interactive themes don't have a page.* *Because of the limitation put on posts by Google Plus, the curator names will not be hot linked nor will the page names.  Sorry if this causes an inconvenience but only 100 links can be put into a post and this one contains close to 300.* Let's rock.Sunday• Dawn on Sunday  #dawnOnSunday  +Dawn On Sunday  +Ray Bilcliff +Sherry McBriar • Sacred Sunday  #sacredSunday  +SacredSunday™  +Charles Lupica +Manfred Berndtgen +Margaret Tompkins +Robyn Morrison +Sherrie von Sternberg  • Selfless Sunday  #selflessSunday +#SelflessSunday Theme on G+    +Jeffrey Sullivan • Sentimental Sunday  #sentimentalSunday +Sentimental Sunday Theme   +Louisa Catharine Forsyth• Sign Sunday  #signSunday +Sign Sunday +Jonathan Davis +Lori Carey • Sky Sunday  #SkySunday +Sky Sunday - Photography Theme  +Randy Scherkenbach +Patrick Scherkenbach • *Zen Sunday*   #zenSunday +Zen Sunday +Charlotte Therese Björnström +Simon Kitcher +Nathan Wirth  ────────Monday• Backyard Birding Monday  #backyardBirdingMonday +Backyard Birding Monday #BackyardbirdingMonday   +Celeste Odono +Ricky L Jones• DOF Monday (Depth of Field)  #DOFMonday +DOFMonday +Mara Acoma +L2012-06-06 17:32:51260927778

Going to keep posting this until the Violence Against Women Act is passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. If that means posting until the neanderthals who voted against it are gone, then so be it.

Just a short note to my fellow plussers... I am in the middle of a project, and will not be online as much as I would like, but will return as quickly as possible.  In the meantime, I will be popping in periodically to help moderate this community, and visit with my friends.
Hope everyone has a wonderful, creative week.

Have been offline for days trying to work through problems with this painting.  Although I have missed chatting with my friends here, I knew if I got online, it would give me an excuse not to work on this landscape.
I think i'm finished.  Will visit it again in the morning with fresh eyes.
In the meantime, here's a snippet of the work.

Probably one of the most romantic poems ever written.
This is an excerpt from  *I sing the body electric by Walt Whitman*.
I truly recommend you read the entire poem.

Happy Valentine's Day!

------------------------------------------------

I SING the Body electric;
The armies of those I love engirth me, and I engirth them;
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them,
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul.

Was it doubted that those who corrupt their own bodies conceal themselves;
And if those who defile the living are as bad as they who defile the dead?
And if the body does not do as much as the Soul?
And if the body were not the Soul, what is the Soul?

Happy Valentine's Day!

------------------------------------------------

I SING the Body electric;
The armies of those I love engirth me, and I engirth them;
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them,
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul.

And if those who defile the living are as bad as they who defile the dead?
And if the body does not do as much as the Soul?
And if the body were not the Soul, what is the Soul?

The love of the Body of man or woman balks account—the body itself balks account;
That of the male is perfect, and that of the female is perfect.

The expression of the face balks account;
But the expression of a well-made man appears not only in his face;
It is in his limbs and joints also, it is curiously in the joints of his hips and wrists;
It is in his walk, the carriage of his neck, the flex of his waist and knees—dress does not hide him;
The strong, sweet, supple quality he has, strikes through the cotton and flannel;
To see him pass conveys as much as the best poem, perhaps more;
You linger to see his back, and the back of his neck and shoulder-side.

The sprawl and fullness of babes, the bosoms and heads of women, the folds of their dress, their style as we pass in the street, the contour of their shape downwards,
The swimmer naked in the swimming-bath, seen as he swims through the transparent green-shine, or lies with his face up, and rolls silently to and fro in the heave of the water,
The bending forward and backward of rowers in row-boats—the horseman in his saddle,
Girls, mothers, house-keepers, in all their performances,
The group of laborers seated at noon-time with their open dinner-kettles, and their wives waiting,
The female soothing a child—the farmer’s daughter in the garden or cow-yard,
The young fellow hoeing corn—the sleigh-driver guiding his six horses through the crowd,
The wrestle of wrestlers, two apprentice-boys, quite grown, lusty, good-natured, native-born, out on the vacant lot at sundown, after work,
The coats and caps thrown down, the embrace of love and resistance,
The upper-hold and the under-hold, the hair rumpled over and blinding the eyes;
The march of firemen in their own costumes, the play of masculine muscle through clean-setting trousers and waist-straps,
The slow return from the fire, the pause when the bell strikes suddenly again, and the listening on the alert,
The natural, perfect, varied attitudes—the bent head, the curv’d neck, and the counting;
Such-like I love—I loosen myself, pass freely, am at the mother’s breast with the little child,
Swim with the swimmers, wrestle with wrestlers, march in line with the firemen, and pause, listen, and count.  ......

Will leave you all with this little humor.  (Come on, admit it, you all have a friend like this)

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 30" x 1.5"  (76 cm x 76 cm x 4cm)

I just finished this one.  I concentrated not only on the composition, but also the brushwork and the texture of the paint (love loaded brushes!).  The canvas, although prepped, gave me hell throughout the painting, but decided to let that texture work with me, instead of against me in places.   It's a large canvas, and hard to photo with any detail, so I included some detail shots.
Will let her set for a few weeks, then revisit to see if she needs any more work.

Just another reminder....
If the posts are not related to figurative work, they will be removed by the moderators.

A note to those sharing art via a webpage or blog link, your work will not show up until a moderator releases the image.  It will appear in the moderator's stream (unseen by others) as "possible spam" until we approve the post.  To avoid this, and to have your work show up immediately, attach the image directly to your posting, then add your link at the bottom of your comments.

Thank you all for your support.  :)

This is so exciting!!!!.    The end of fossil fuel???

Watched an interview last night with the Audi engineer who designed the engine that would perform with the algae-based fuel.  Did research on line, and found this article.  Audi and Joule state the price of their "green fuel" will be the same as fossil fuel, and distribution will be established all across the country.  If Audi can do this, so can other automobile manufacturers.  Come on GM, Chrysler and Ford... get on the green train.

Big question.... why didn't this make the big main media news stream?

First, want to introduce you all to a new moderator, +Melodie Douglas to Figurative Art Community .  She worked with me on Figurative Art Friday, and so thrilled she has returned to G+ and agreed to help us out here.

Second, want to give a big "thank you" to +Christine Cantow Smith for all her  help and infectious enthusiasm.... hasn't she been a great moderator?

I have been offline for several days working on a project (not at easel), but wanted to drop in today and say hello to all my plussers.

This is a snippet of current WIP on my easel, awaiting my attention to complete.  Still a little rough, sculpting in features... can't wait to get back to her.  ;)
