Interesting read. I had been wondering wtf is wrong with kids here as punching an adult man in the crotch is a major no no in the countries I have lived in.

I googled this after picking up my son from school and seeing him grab his crotch in front of the teacher. I nearly died of embarrassment but she said it's normal. Whut?

Needless to say, regardless of it being normal in Japan my son is now sitting on the naughty chair where he can think of his actions. Normal my ass.

Not sure what planet the Young Turks live on, a million bucks for a parking spot in a good location is totally worth it for people that can afford it.

Also pretty sure that the super rich would simply claim it as a business expense on whatever corporation they have set up to manage their money and ensure they pay as little tax as possible.

I also think most people would be horrified if they see what little tax the super rich pay in reality.

I shared this photo of the eclipse a few days ago and it seems to be very popular. A few commenters wrote that they thought this was photoshopped.

Curious what others think and if anyone knows of a high res version of the image?

I have been searching via Google Image search but did not get any further. Noticed that a LOT of websites are copying this image without credit which is disgusting.

The photographer is Michael Chow, his website is here:

Why does Google not look at the language of the OS or Browser instead of the location in the world? Chances are that I would want English if my OS and Browser are English.

Apart from respect it is also logical and practical. Helmets, shields, guns and batons are like a red flag to protestors.

Works two ways of course, pretty sure if the protesters get ugly so will the police response.

Now let's see if the blue shirts in the U.S. have the sentience to do the same. ~quote from FB comment~

The German police took off their helmets and marched with the protest clearing the way for them.

German police officers escort an anti-capitalism protest march with some 20,000 people in Frankfurt, Germany, Saturday, May 19, 2012. Protesters peacefully filled the city center of continental Europe's biggest financial hub in their protest against the dominance of banks and what they perceive to be untamed capitalism, Frankfurt police spokesman Ruediger Regis said. The protest group calling itself Blockupy has called for blocking the access to the European Central Bank, which is located in Frankfurt's business district. (AP Photo/Michael Probst)

Now this is my kind of religion.

New Religion

the old one
was mad
the last one
sad
some would lie
some would die
most of us
just sigh
I wanna
new religion
with no more
bitchin'

~just love~

no gods
no rods
no bods
to strike with
all their might
superstition's
no religion
and two wrongs
can't make it
right
blend your songs
into
a chorus
shine a light
for there's
more of us
who won't fight
than will
dogma's dead!
instead
I want something
real
not something
I've read
but what
I can feel
no more reachin'
finding nothin'
no more preachin'
― kill kill kill

~just love~

my new religion

Seems this Ukrainian reporter has a gender identity issue!

When I saw this first thing I did was Google to see what the Ukrainian custom is on greeting, after all the French are nutty kissers as well.

Found this website that has a etiquette guide which states:

When female friends meet, they kiss on the cheek three times, starting with the left and then alternating, while close male friends may pat each other on the back and hug.

Anyone played with Microsofts attempt at social networking? So far first impression is that the interface is very unresponsive and the site generally slow.

At first I thought why would they enter a market dominated by Facebook and Google plus but if you take their installed base of software users into account all they need is a decent % of that for this to have value to them.

Only a devout Christian could argue that scientific explanations are stupid because he can not understand them.

I'm not saying I have the answers, nor that science does, heck, even science does not claim to have the answers, only theories of what they think might have happened, is happening now and what might happen and these theories get challenged, refined, thrown out and new ones are made all the time.

Of course we could just read the bible and be down with it, me, I would rather hang myself than live in ignorance.

Of course we could just read the bible and be down with it, me, I would rather hang myself than live in ignorance.___

Yeah, I made 3 new, separate friends on YouTube.... or did I ?

These types of 'marketing' activities make me puke.

Fuming right now!

My son, with my help, created a video on iMovie and we used the royalty free song that came with it called "shogun" only to find a copyright claim from "Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society" a few days later.

Not even the same song, they claim there is a song in the video called Red Window.

A quick Google search reveals these guys troll videos on YouTube as it results in an iTunes link for their song next to the video.

See & hear for yourself:

If this is them looking happy I'm curious what they consider a gloomy look. Also bad photographer, the lighting makes Mark look like he has no chin.

God bless America.

Lets hope this makes the woman realise what organised religion can lead to.

Some people wonder why the Linux desktop revolution has not started yet... Today at boot I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to 12.04. Why not?!

After a lengthy instal and reboot, no errors,l I get stuck in a terminal session. Ok, let's go into recovery mode, nice menu but mouse and keyboard are not seen so no way to select.

Fixing a problem is kinda hard without controls.

Argh.

This has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen. A dummy iPad, not even a good one, as a photo frame?

I really think that Arudou Debito or Dave Aldwinckle as he used to be known as, should see professional help. He is one of those foreigners who has a real chip on his shoulder with regards to fitting in.

Yup, I said foreigner, just because you acquired a Japanese passport does not make you a native, you simply never will be and there is nothing wrong with that.

I have only been here for a year and do not encounter any of the things he mentions. Yes people compliment me on my chopstick usage but only once, the first time they eat with me and never again. Yes they ask me questions about my native Holland and my adopted London, is the unusual? Maybe I'm better prepared to this kind of curiosity due to having lived in London for 16 years?

Apparently TED did not publish this talk as it was seen as being partisan? Only after pressured did they release it and even now it got only 3266 likes vs 1179 dislikes.

I don't get it, I'm certainly now financial expert but everything hes saying sounds logical. Why all the dislikes and why did TED not publish this video?

Can someone more knowledgable on these matters please explain this to me as I'm confused.

This explains in detail what I have been seeing for more than a year now, Flickr is all but dead. I was an early adopter and very active in various groups and when it was announced that Yahoo was buying Flickr the whole community was enraged. Many people posted protest images on their stream but after a while it looked like Yahoo was not going to change much, apart from the logon, so people calmed down.

As it turns out Yahoo was not going to do anything with it and just let Flickr rot. According to the article they have woken up and are now updating it but I wonder if it's simply too late?
