Android notification sounds need to be improved

I've asked for this before, but since +Google Drive and +Google Maps recently added features I had been asking about for months, I thought I'd give it another go.

I understand that it makes sense to give the notification sounds titles. Names like "Capella" and "Antimony" are better than "GenericSound003". But it leads to something you've all probably experienced or seen: Someone will go through the list of sounds, one by one, in order, looking for one they like. And if they want to change the sound for a new app later on, they have to repeat the whole process. The name doesn't tell us anything about the sound.

A high pitched sound will cut through a din better than a low pitched sound. That makes them inherently better for notifications that are more important. A shorts... more »

Here's what I don't get: If you're ready to thank a deity for something good happening (averting a tragedy, winning a touchdown, remembering not to lock yourself out of your car/home), wouldn't that automatically mean the same entity is on the hook for the bad thing that got averted in the first place? If you thank some god for not getting locked out of your house, shouldn't you be upset with the same god for locking you out previously? I don't understand the mental gymnastics of "it's responsible for when something good happens, but when something bad happens it's chance or free will."

My love for palindromes is irrational. And by that, of course, I mean non-terminating and non-repeating.

A palindromic sign just tickles my day. I only wish the "1"s didn't have serifs so it could be truly symmetric.
