I landed in Kuala Lumpur yesterday... Fortunately I found this spot just in time to get some photos at sunset. The two main towers look awesome as the sun sets on them... they reflect light in a truly unique way, but I couldn't quite bring it out in a photo so I decided to share this photo from when it was very dark. :-) The two central towers were the tallest in the world until 2004, when Taipei 101 took over (if you go back in my stream far enough, I've got a photo of Taipei 101). Now a building in Dubai is the tallest. The bridge connecting these two towers is still supposed to be the tallest bridge in the world, so take that Dubai!  I got interrupted about 15 times while taking this photo when others asked me me to take snapshots of them in front of the towers! I guess it looked like I knew what I was doing because I was using a tripod. :-)

My Spring Morning

Sat on a bank of a slow flowing river I watch the sun rise slowly behind the trees, its gentle light diffused by the branches and glisten off the dew laden grass at my feet. The warm mist rises with the sun and the green spring grass comes into focus. The trickle of water as it moves by fills my ears while birds sing a melody is chorus with the sound and only the beat of my heart and breath keeps tempo. As the warmth starts to wash over me I wake and as I do I smile, I am at peace, this is my spring morning, this is my country, this is my life.

You don't know how good you've got it until you lose it.

Your job stinks? Tell me how you feel when you lose it (and not having a new job, mind). Your family is horrible? Tell me how you feel when you lose them to sickness or war or accidents. Your current car is so "uncool"? Tell me how you feel when you lose it and you have to walk/ take public transport. You feel ugly? Tell me how you feel when you lose your limbs somehow.

So, really, you don't know how good you've got it until you lose it.

I mentioned meeting +Trey Ratcliff in a post a few days ago: http://bit.ly/ruQQrf. We talked about many subjects (I think our conversation ran about 10.5 hours). One topic that came up was "micro expressions" -- extremely brief facial expressions (lasting as little as 1/25th of a second). An expression that brief could actually be missed by standard 30 frame per second (fps) film. At 30 fps, you may be missing key signifiers & moments from your favorite actors, because the technology is not sufficient to capture the full range of human motion (and thus e-motion). Interesting if you think about it.

With the market crash today, I wanted to remind people that happiness and joy come from many places, and your bank account, or stock portfolio aren't the important places.

I won't lie to you and tell you I don't enjoy being rich. It's great. I get to do whatever I want, whenever I want.

But that was true before I had any money, either.

As a teenager all I wanted to do was geek out on my computer. Somehow I convinced my parents to let me drop out of school and do that.

In college, all I wanted to do was read, study and think. I considered becoming homeless in order to do that, because the library was free.

When I was in a band, all I did was write songs and practice. I wasn't even very good, and I had the time of my life.

There are necessities in life, but it's not too hard to navigate them even if you have very... more »
