"When she received her first paycheck, enclosed was a Chase Bank debit card with instructions on how to use it and the fees attached."
"Her future earnings would be deposited into the debit card account and she could access her money from there. Gunshannon never signed the card and when she returned to work she asked her supervisor if she could be paid by check or by direct deposit. She was told the card was the only option."

This disclosure provides Obama an opportunity to appeal for a return to sanity, constitutional policy, and the rule of law rather than men. He still has plenty of time to go down in history as the President who looked into the abyss and stepped back, rather than leaping forward into it. I would advise he personally call for a special committee to review these interception programs, repudiate the dangerous "State Secrets" privilege, and, upon preparing to leave office, begin a tradition for all Presidents forthwith to demonstrate their respect for the law by appointing a special investigator to review the policies of their years in office for any wrongdoing. There can be no faith in government if our highest offices are excused from scrutiny - they should be setting the example of transparency.
Snowden is as hopeful as I, but I won't hold my breath.

Although much transatlantic trade is already tariff-free, there are a number of sectors – such as financial services – where officials believe there is scope for liberalisation.
Hmm. Lets give the financial sector more freedom. That seems like a good idea.

Bathtub falls and police officers kill more Americans than terrorism, yet we've been asked to sacrifice our most sacred rights for fear of falling victim to it.

Oxygen mystery: How marine mammals hold their breath
Scientists say they have solved the mystery of one of the most extreme adaptations in the animal kingdom: how marine mammals store enough oxygen to hold their breath for up to an hour.
The team studied myoglobin, an oxygen-storing protein in mammals' muscles and found that, in whales and seals, it has special "non-stick" properties.
This allowed the animals to pack huge amounts of oxygen into their muscles without "clogging them up".
The findings are published in Science - http://www.sciencemag.org/content/340/6138/1234192
Dr Michael Berenbrink from the Institute of Integrative Biology at the University of Liverpool took part in the study.
He said that scientists had long wondered how marine mammals managed to pack so much of this vital protein into their bodies.

It’s called Tianhe-2, and with more than 3 million processor cores, it’s the world’s most powerful supercomputer. It can perform more than 30 quadrillion calculations per second, easily dwarfing the runner-up, an Oak Ridge National Laboratories machine known as Titan. The Oak Ridge system can do 17.59 quadrillion calculations per second, according to its most recent published benchmarks.
No, the US isn't spending enough on R&D. Also, our education system blows.

NO MORE #TIPPING ?
Everyone talks about how servers get screwed in the tipping system, but as a polite customer who's also seen a steady decline in the quality of service and professionalism from front of house staff over the years with a steady increase in the default tip percent expected, I look forward to an overall improvement in service that will hopefully result from the industry attracting more service minded professionals who truly respect the profession rather than short time opportunists waiting for the next better opportunity.
This is a move toward win-win.

Side note: I twitch whenever I see an abbreviated title without a period (ex: Dr vs Dr.). I realize there are many grammatical differences between American English and the Queen's English. I can handle extra U's, S's instead of Z's, but, for whatever reason, the lack of punctuation in abbreviated titles drives me nuts.

Supreme Court says you can't patent human DNA.
Why it takes a fucking court to decide that is beyond me.
Now I can peacefully go back to eating my patented corn. Because that makes perfect sense.
