Gideon Rosenblatt28,713Gideon Rosenblatt's Top 100These are the folks Google tells me are my most relevant people (slightly modified to remove people who are relevant, but not active here on Google+).Looking through this list, I can tell you that these are great people full of interesting ideas and engagement. I'm not in the circle here, so I can objectively say that this group is a worthy addition to your circles. Enjoy this group of people - I know I do. They enrich my experience here. Without them, I probably wouldn't still be here today. P.S. - If you got a notification, that means you're in the circle. 2013-06-11 20:53:39100662467
Gideon Rosenblatt28,212Good Business Community SupportersThis circle is made up of people who have been critical to the continued success of the Good Business community here on Google+. They've shared good content that matches the community's focus on "business as a force for good in the world" and, perhaps more importantly, they've engaged nicely and been supportive of other people's posts in the community. Here's to all of you. Gideon Rosenblatt18,624Engagement CircleThis is my first sharing of this Engagement Circle since it was recently featured on Mashable (http://mashable.com/2012/08/21/google-circles-marketers/). Here's how Mashable described it:Offering your audience an engaging experience no matter which channel you’re reaching them on is the sign of a successful campaign. This Google+ circle is a collection of experts focused on engagement, as curated by Gideon Rosenblatt. Following this circle will give you updates about relationship marketing, relationship management, community management, engagement technologies, and civic engagement. The circle they pointed to was my first iteration of it from back in February when it included just 80 people. It now has 402 (I included myself), and the Mashable description is still pretty accurate. You'll also find lots of SEO folks here and marketers. I've drawn a distinction, which may go away at some point, between my "Engagement Circle" and my "Social Networks and Social Media Circle." Not that these two should truly be separated, but the social grouping was so rich I decided to break it out into its own circle. I'll share that one again soon. Who Should Add this Circle? This is a big circle, so not everyone will want to add it whole. Some of you will want to use it to pick and choose new folks to your already existing circles. If you're new on Google+, and you're into the field of marketing and engagement, this is a great way to power up your stream with some interesting content.Getting Into this CirclePart of me really loves sharing the circles I curate because it helps me connect with new people and also because it helps connect other people who need to find each other. The part I really don't like is when people get insulted that I didn't think to include them or whine. Please don't do that. If you think you should be in this circle, or think of others who should be in it - please just add a comment. This is a judgement call on my part. That's just the way it works because I'm the guy who has to deal with the flow of content from the people I add. Please be understanding of that. Sometimes I make mistakes. You will likely find a few people who I added to this circle by mistake for some reason. Sorry. That happens, and it helps if you let me know (discretely, so as not to upset or embarace that person). Generally speaking though, this is a high quality, large circle. Thanks in advance to all the great people already in this circle they really do make for a much richer experience for me here on Google+. I hope you'll enjoy them too. 2012-09-02 14:56:25402312549

If you don't have a green circle of your own, feel free to adopt this one and keep adding people of like mind to it. If you think you should be in it, please let us know so we can all add you.Unfortunately, G+ doesn't let us share more than 500 at a time, and this circle is considerably bigger, so many of you were left out, and there's no way to know who it was without going one by one, which I lack the time to do right now.Still, the share serves a high purpose, so here it is.2012-04-07 18:57:54500030

Gideon Rosenblatt9,384Social Media / Social Networks CircleThis circle is made up of people who spend a significant portion of their week working on social media and social networks - as part of their job. It's an update of a circle I shared in January. Here's what I can tell you about this circle:* It has a bunch of really good people in it; lots of intelligence on the topic of social media. * It's 90% people actually working on social media, but there was a week or two that I temporarily opened it up to also include people interested in social media. I then tightened the criteria back up, but didn't go back and try to pull out those folks who were just interested in it. It's by far the minority of people in this circle though. Most are actually working with social media as part of their job. * Sharing this circle may end up causing me a lot of headaches with some people wondering why they weren't included. Again - the filter here is "people working in social media." So please keep that in mind, and accept my apologies in advance if I neglected to tag you properly for inclusion in this circle. I'll be sharing it again in the future, so feel free to let me know (nicely please). Also, let me know if I'm missing key folks besides yourself. Thank you. OK. That's it. Enjoy this group. I do. Every day. #socialmedia #socialnetworks2012-03-26 23:25:38195623440
Bill Shevlin2,547It has been a while since I shared my Green Circle. There are some really great people to interact with in this circle who are very active. Gideon Rosenblatt8,047Big Technology CircleThis is a big, honking circle of people who are interested in or working on technology. It's a mix of people interested in different types of technologies, so it's not super fine-tuned. This would be a good group to add to your circles if you are just ramping up on Google+ and want to get a stream of technology-related content flowing here.2012-03-15 20:59:02501725466
Glenn Wallis714I am delighted and honoured to have been included in this circle from +Gideon Rosenblatt of people on Google+ who have currently under 2000 followers but who "write and share interesting content. Gideon Rosenblatt7,757Under 2K, Interesting, Original People CircleLooking for some new voices? People who share good content, but who don't have huge circles of people already following them? People in this circle:* have less than 2,000 people circling them* have interesting and original insights and content they share publicly* engage others in civil, respectful ways that build communityI spent a bunch of time curating this circle to try to make sure the people in it meet the above criteria. This is a good group of folks. My goal in sharing this circle is to help give some interesting people a bit more visibility here on Google+. I think it's important that we bake that kind of opportunity into the culture of this network. If people work hard to share good content and engage well with others, they deserve a chance to get recognized. +Liz ℚuilty did something like this for me when I was just getting started, and this is my way of passing the torch. I want to note that I failed in one of my original goals for this circle, which was to build a diverse group of people. My existing network here on G+ just couldn't get me there for this circle share, so that's something I will be working on addressing for future circles. In the mean time, since I'm not including myself in this circle (because I fail the first criterion), I'm going to be a bit more direct in my call to action. If you like the criteria for this circle and you agree with its goals, then please, add this circle and re-share it publicly. Thank you in advance for your help.2012-03-12 13:57:13114928869
Gideon Rosenblatt6,008This is a group of people working on and interested in sustainability and environmental protection. There's a nice handful of folks in here working in environmental advocacy organizations as well as those working in businesses with a green bent...you know, social enterprises. It's an update from a circle I shared a couple months back. Let me know if I'm missing key folks who should be in this circle. It's still growing. #green #sustainability #brightgreen #environment2012-02-29 01:31:1915832712
Gideon Rosenblatt3,771This circle includes people working on various aspects of engagement, including:relationship marketing, Customer Relationship Management and other engagement technologies, civic engagement, community management and even a smattering of people working primarily on Search Engine Optimization, but who seem to be interested in its connection with broader engagement. Note this is not meant to be a social media circle, though there's obviously lots of overlap there. I'm still very much building this circle, so if you have recommendations on key folks I'm missing, please let me know. And please excuse me, in advance, if I know you and inadvertently left you off a circle that you should have been in. #engagement #SEO #marketing #relationshipmarketing #civicengagement #communitymanagement2012-02-10 14:00:4180542261

Great article. The question of how to prepare my kids for the world and the cost and demotivational practices of our current education system are certainly on my mind. I am hoping that very soon our innovators will have invented our way out of our expensive system into a new system that is transformative for the US.  With free classes by top universities being put online are we close to a system that rewards your innovation portfolio rather than your degree papers. Maybe we are already there.

Excellent post by my good friend +Gideon Rosenblatt on growth and current importance of Google+ to business and social change organizations.  Thanks Gid.

Google+ Usage Soaring

Here's a more in-depth look at the latest GlobalWebIndex research on social network usage. Google+ is rocking it:
http://globalwebindex.net/thinking/google-in-depth/

Looking at the chart below, if we look at the top ten activities that users have done via their PC (we also track mobile and tablet – but that’s for another day) we can see that, broadly speaking, (and as expected) Facebook users are more active and doing more with their profile. The number one activity on all services is to share photos, with 80% of Facebook users doing so. For Facebook, this is followed by “commenting on a friends post”, “messaging friends on a one to one basis” and then “posted a comment about my daily activities”. If we look at posting comments in more detail, we can see that 62% of Facebook users have “posted a comment about my daily activities”, followed by Twitter with 51% of users and Google+ with 42%. This is not the disparity you would expect if we were to believe the talk of Google being “a waste land and full of ghosts.” Also, if we look at other more passive activities like “clicking +1s or likes”, “sharing article links” or “following a brand,” the gap is much closer, and in many cases, Google+ users outscore Twitter. If we look at “sharing links to blogs”, 45% of Google+ users have done so in the past month, leading both Twitter and Facebook.

In short, the activities most valuable to advertisers, brands and businesses are happening in a big way on Google+, emphasizing the fact that it should feature alongside Twitter and Facebook in any comprehensive social strategy right now.

This article then goes on to look at growth in each of these categories - and guess who's growing fastest in most of the major categories...yep...Google+

This is desktop data only, so it's hard to say what it all would look like with mobile thrown in. Either way, this is a big step forward for Google and a good time for the ghost town article writers to start to thinking about a new stereotype...___Excellent post by my good friend +Gideon Rosenblatt on growth and current importance of Google+ to business and social change organizations.  Thanks Gid.

Very cool and we have a Chapter in Seattle.

With Growth Of ‘Hacker Scouting,’ More Kids Learn To Tinker +NPR
http://www.npr.org/2012/12/23/167285991/with-growth-of-hacker-scouting-more-kids-learn-to-tinker?sc=tw&cc=share

Countless kids have grown up with the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts or Campfire Girls, but for some families, the uniforms and outdoor focus of traditional Scouting groups don’t appeal.

In recent months, Scoutlike groups that concentrate on technology and do-it-yourself projects have been sprouting up around the country. They’re coed and, like traditional Scouting organizations, award patches to kids who master skills.

The Hacker Scouts don’t wear uniforms, but soon they’ll be able to earn something akin to merit badges, made by the kid-friendly DIY electronics company Adafruit Industries.
Badges range from “learn to solder,” “aerial quadcopter” and “high-altitude balloon” badges to the “Dumpster-diving” badge — “for when you get dirty but get some free stuff,” explains Adafruit founder Limor Fried.

Good video if you want to see the power of using Salesforce for any business process but especially ones for good!

I wanted to share a really amazing example of how +Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is using Salesforce and open APIs to help veterans transition back into civilian life.

In IAVA's Salesforce, they are tracking legislators and legislation to help them better advocate for veterans, and instead of hand entering this fast-changing legislative information, they are able to integrate directly with Sunlight Labs Congress API (http://services.sunlightlabs.com/docs/Sunlight_Congress_API/). This integration makes them more efficient and more effective, with current legislative data that they care to track right at their fingertips and in the context of their other important CRM data.

What's impressive to me about their Salesforce implementation is that they started from a strong grounding in their business needs, took advantage of open APIs to augment their data, and they're using CRM how it's supposed to be used--as a central brain of their organization, housing all of their important mission evaluation criteria and key metrics.  ___Good video if you want to see the power of using Salesforce for any business process but especially ones for good!

This is a great article about great book "Why Nations Fail". It makes me think about why organizations fail. I would say for simliar reasons. Organizations who are not inclusive and open with their brand and technology, able to effectively partner and create opportunities for advancement across their organization become slowly insulated from the type of feedback and partnership they need to be successful. This is a lesson for all leaders and all citizens. All organizations have self interests but smart organizations develop very wide self interests. For example, why is Starbucks launching "Create Jobs for America?" Because they realize that if we do not have real job creation, their business is going to loose profits. Even better if they realize that their brand should be at the center of innovation, entrepreneurs and job creation.

Exciting when you see innovations like this that bring us closer to where we need to be. Oh and those are cool looking....from a distance.

This is a powerful talk that resonates with me. I sometimes am annoyed with myself for being so vulnerable. It is not bad it is actually a pretty amazing trait. Thank Brene for giving me the low down on what it all means.

Thanks for posting this Dave. It is amazing to see such a small staff use technology to reach so many people. Impressive for sure.

When +Marc Benioff talks about the Social Enterprise, he's talking about having conversations with your constituents where they "live" online, executing a strategy for deepening your engagement with them, and maintaining social CRM systems which allow you to track your touches with your audience out in the world.

With help from Groundwire and the Salesforce.com Foundation, Dogwood Initiative is putting on a clinic for how to reach people where they "live" online but instead of talking to them about products, they're talking to them about actions they can take to improve their world and the health of the environment in British Columbia.

Check out this Engagement Deep Dive from Dogwood Initiative where they walk through how they are using Salesforce.com to drive their mission.___Thanks for posting this Dave. It is amazing to see such a small staff use technology to reach so many people. Impressive for sure.

If we search deep we find we are all on a mission. Our organizations should help us with this expression. Great TED talk to make the case. Makes me feel lucky to work at an organization with such a strong mission.

Perhaps what we all need is more of our friends to give us advice in the tradition of the Quakers. I love this practice. Big thanks to Kat from Milkshake Media who shared this with me. The hardest thing to do when someone needs advice is to help them find their own truth. This is how you do it.

Here is the thing! I live in one of the most amazing cities and counties where lately I am trying to keep up with who is working harder on sustainability issues. King Country is kicking it with Green Tools Project and the City of Seattle with Resource Venture project. I have always appreciated the way my local government is pushing the envelope on waste reduction, green building etc, but so wonderful to see it from the inside. A bunch of super devoted people and amazing organizations like Cascadia Consulting Group and O'Brien and Company managing very collaborative contracts. Amazing!

Love Air Bnb, Nice article by Sightline about the fact that they are starting to effect the hotel industry with this business model and as such they should expect legislation that will complicate their model.

If you are disruptive be prepared for those you are disrupting to fight back. And the hotel industry - I am guessing they have some power.
