New Beginnings
Celebrating the arrival of spring
While I have definitely been enjoying its arrival by photographing the sprouting greens and blooming flowers around me, I am having trouble keeping up with the editing. My desktop seems to be getting slower and slower, to the point that I can no longer hold off on doing something about it…

Washed Ashore

Taken this morning. Once again, my wish for a beautiful sunrise was denied.
Perhaps due to the warmer weather, there were actually two other photographers joining me this morning.
Now I just need some coffee...

Swept Away
I woke up early on Saturday morning hoping to catch the sunrise. Instead, I was greeted by dense fog, strong winds, and close to freezing temperatures. I still tried to make the most out of it though.

Garden Ganache
An assortment of Kohler Chocolates
I had a discussion with someone once about whether food can look good in black & white. This is my attempt to take on this challenge.
It at least gave me an excuse to buy a box of chocolates from the market. Besides looking good, these hand painted ganache chocolates are also melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

On Display
The peacocks had apparently taken over the Milwaukee Zoo over the weekend. They were by the camels, by the rhinos, even by the black bear! This fellow decided to give us a good show, walking around in full regalia. One thing I learned is that peacocks can give out a loud (almost intimidating) shriek. A call to arms maybe? :)

As The Light Shines Upon Us
Sheboygan, WI
Taken this past Saturday during sunrise. As I walked out the door, I was greeted by some of the most beautiful colors in the sky. I quickly drove up to the lake (which luckily is only 10 minutes away, depending on how many red lights I run into), and made my way down to the shoreline (note to self: wet rocks are slippery). Set my ND filter, and voila.

While at Costco last weekend, I saw that the Manfrotto tripod they had was on sale for almost half the price. I knew it was too good of a deal to pass.
While my old tripod had served me well, it was not sturdy enough during high winds. Nor could go up very high. It sure was lightweight and compact though. This new one is built like a tank, and weighs like one.
Well, here is my first shot taken with it.

With temperatures still in the 30s and 40s, I have not seen any flower bloom in my area. The only sign of spring is patches of grass turning just ever so slightly green. I therefore had no choice but to go buy some flowers for this week's assignment. Sigh, when will spring finally arrive...

Across The Bridge
Brooklyn Bridge, New York
While visiting New York, I had ideas of photographing places such as the Highline and Empire State Building. Unfortunately none of it planned out. So on the last day of the trip, I made the determination to drag myself over to the Brooklyn Bridge to capture the sunrise.
This was one of the first images I took. I must say that it was incredibly tricky taking long exposure pictures on the Bridge, given all the vibration.

May I Have Your Attention?
Times Square, New York, NY
We spent this past weekend in New York. One of the main purposes of the trip was to squeeze in as many meals as (humanly) possible, to which I think we were fairly successful :)
We stayed in Nolita, which was incredibly convenient from shops and restaurants. One fun nearby place we checked out was Rice To Riches, which strictly sells rice pudding in a variety of flavors.
We also made it up to Times Square to check out the M & M store. It is hard to believe just how crowded it was (driving must be a nightmare). It was also fun watching the billboards, though I can hardly remember any other than the ones in my pictures, given how they all seem to try to grab your attention.
Needless to say, I took a whole bunch of photographs in this trip, which I am in the middle of processing. My ultra... more »

So We Meet Again…
Sheboygan Breakwater Lighthouse, Sheboygan, WI
I made the decision to wake up before sunrise yesterday morning and go take some photos by the lake. Hoping for a spectacular sunrise, I was instead greeted by a grey cloudy sky. Certainly something I could work with, since clouds can create some pretty interesting long exposure photographs.
The pathway to the lighthouse was completely covered with layers upon layers of ice and snow. It was the kind that was very difficult to walk on, as every step was met with ice that crushed upon contact.
The funny thing is that as I was trying to steady myself along the way, someone just casually jogged past by me (wearing a pair of Vibrams, mind you), as if he were floating on top of it all.

Say Cheese!
The GorillaPod was one of the items I got specifically for our Hawaii trip years ago. It allowed us to easily take photos of ourselves by simply securing the tripod onto something like a tree branch. Definitely one of the best things we brought with us.
On an unrelated subject, I rescued a fish that had jumped out of the tank at the pet store today (suicidal fish?). Pretty sure I made my son proud, and that he’ll go on to tell all his friends about his dada's ‘heroic actions’ :)

Vintage
The house I currently live in was built during the 40s. It definitely won't be showcased on TV anytime soon, but back in the day it used to be a model home. I've even seen photos from back in the day, advertising the house. The funniest thing has to be seeing that the master bedroom had 2 twin size beds :)
I'm not sure how many things in the house are original (pretty sure the tub & vanity are though, since I saw the same ones in the museum:)), but this medicine cabinet looks pretty old. Who knows, it could just be a pseudo-vintage item from Anthropology :)

Guiding The Light
Fullerton Beach, Chicago, IL
Recently I received a rather nondescript piece of mail. What appeared to be another piece of junk mail was actually a check from Fine Art America, for a photograph that I had apparently sold! Someone had bought a 30x20 metal print of a long exposure shot taken at this very same spot. Up to that point, I had completely neglected my Fine Art America page.
(By the way, the shiny building in the background is the Trump Tower.)

Pacifica Sunset
Santa Monica, CA
Taken during my first day in LA. I still cannot believe I forgot to bring my tripod that day. Then again it was the first day of the family reunion, don't think it would have been a very good idea to just wonder off for an extensive period of time just to take photographs.

That's right, I was in LA for few days, for my family reunion. I got to see my parents and brothers, whom I have not seen in years.
It was also great getting away from the cold weather. Food was also fabulous. We had like 7 meals during one of the days, pigging out feasting on lots & lots of great food. I'm dearly going to miss all the wonderful Asian bakeries.
LA also has lots of traffic. LOTS. And lots of traffic accidents.
