Photographing Star Trails

While we were in Utah last week, +Jay Patel and I had mostly clear skies. Not so great for daytime photography - but awesome if you are hoping to shoot stars or the moon at night.

On this night, we set up our cameras near Balanced Rock in Arches National Park for a nice, long evening shooting star trails. It was relatively warm out there - though after a while, the wind really picked up. We hid out in the lee of a giant rock nearby, but got kinda chilly anyway. Ah well. It was awesome fun.

There's a lot to think about when you are shooting something like this - exposure, digital noise, the location of the north star, what time the moon rises, cloud cover, stabilizing your camera, light from passing planes, blending in post-processing... the list goes on.

Leonid Afremov was born in 1955. Belarusian as the great March Chagall, he studied in the academy founded by latter ', developing a personal technique that makes use of' use of spatulas for application of color, he says he spent 10 years before he could perfect this his extravagant pictorial method. The favorite colors are lit by Afremov, primary or secondary colors, with a focus on the contrasts of complementary, thereby making it lively and fresh compositions, and give the paintings a sense of deep joy of living.

Looking at the clouds early on, +Lori Carey and I both imagined there would not be a sunset but rather a conversion from white to gray to blue, to black. +Tony Payne posted his shot of the whispy Jesus Clouds we got as an unexpected treat.

I used my imagination and some of my tools to create a spectacular sunset about an hour before that shot was taken just after the #tonypaynebomb I posted earlier.

"Echoes of Monet..."

There are times when nature so perfectly replicates art that so perfectly replicated nature creating a philosophical conundrum for the ages. This was one of those moments.

Here is my little spring tribute to Claude Monet by way of some gorgeous cherry blossoms luxuriating in the sunlight over the pond at the Japanese Hill and Pond Garden located at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Exquisite Corpse Collage Game
One of the things I love about being a creative is coming up with unique ways to share my love of collage with others. The history of the Exquisite Corpse had always fascinated me due to the Surrealist mantra and the unexpected outcome of the game itself, which is derived from a phrase that resulted when Surrealists first played the game, "Le cadavre exquis boira le vin nouveau." or ("The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine.") The game is played by a group of participants who create a series of words or images, through poetry, collage, drawing, etc. They begin with one word or image, cover up the initial image and pass it on to the next player who adds another element without being able to see the majority of the first one.
