5. For Nigeria, the country's history and possible future (context) make it all the more important to watch out for threats to Internet Freedom

1. "The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government" - Section 14(2)(b) Nigerian Constitution #NotJustNumbers

2. Each time we lose lives to violence in Nigeria, government responds via scripted statements using familiar string of words. #NotJustNumbers

3. But each life lost is not just a number. Of 1,548 lives lost from May 29 2011 to date, very few have had their stories told. #NotJustNumbers

4. Each life matters! EiE Nigeria is collating faces. Each face represents a family's loss; hope dashed. Each face has a story. #NotJustNumbers

5. We ask: when will the Nigerian government start fulfilling its primary purpose? Until then, help put faces to the numbers. #NotJustNumbers

6. Visit Governing.ng. We only have few faces from media reports. Send faces of people we've lost to info@governi.ng... more »

My career philosophy:

1. Build a niche
2. Ride the wave
3. Take a break
4. Go to "school"
5. Return with vigour
6. Make more impact
7. Raise an "army"
8. Leave your footprint

The cycle continues, or gets adopted to any new area of core interest. The plan, though, is to reduce the areas of focus with time.

1. In October 2008, when Rueben Abati was just a writer and Segun Adeniyi was a (Yar'Adua) Today's Man, they had an interesting exchange.

2. Dr. Rueben Abati, then considered something like a weekly voice for the Nigerian people, wrote "How Much Land Does A Man Need?"

3. Feeling the pinch of Abati's piece, Segun Adeniyi (now a "Yesterday's Man" equivalent of Abati's "Today's Man" role) wrote a rejoinder.

4. In "Shooting an Elephant: Public Service in Nigeria," Segun Adeniyi argued that some loot public funds because people force their hands.

5. How Much Land Does A Man Need?" (http://t.co/i8rXKM5x7F) vs "Shooting an Elephant: Public Service in Nigeria" (http://t.co/zJ4xZ9gj9e)

My closing remarks for the ongoing #smwcivics discussion, via Google Hangout  hosted by +Google Africa:

1. Social media has given a new voice to people, and it's understandable if government gets a bit uncomfortable.
2. This new-found voice will mature over time and issues of "abuse" will reduce, but government MUST learn to manage criticism.
3. Africa's median age is ~19 and that means governments must find a way to harness these voices. Take them as cheap feedback :)
4. Social media will even make civic participation more personal in the future. Direct engagement via apps, etc, will fore action
5. This new-found voice has been seen in action. 2010 youth protests, 2011 elections, 2012 #OccupyNigeria protests, etc.
6. As more people get access to tools, the volume of the voice of the people will get louder. Get familiar, voices will rise.
7. Thisg... more »

Color Illusion
See if the two boxes have the same exact shade of gray.
It's a NO right?
Now cover the middle area where the two boxes meet with your hand or fingers
Watch closely.
Surprised? :)
