What if....

Many people here don't get to see a hummingbird feeding in real life, so I do my best to get out and take a decent picture to share with you.

This particular bird is called an Anna's Hummingbird.

Lately I sort of lost the zeal to get out and take more pictures. Perhaps it will come back, perhaps not. Either way I have many that still need to be processed and posted and I will get to those as time provides itself.

You gals and guys have been so very good to me. :)

It`s hard enough to get one image of a Belted Kingfisher, and even harder to get two of them in the same picture, but to get three Belted Kingfishers in the same picture must be quite uncommon.
These three are all females as well !

This specimen wasn't waving to me, it was lifting its leg to scratch an itch behind its ear :). I was happy to see ground hornbills on my visit to Tanzania in February as these are listed as vulnerable by IUCN. Habitat destruction and persecution have caused very rapid population declines as they roost and nest in tall trees. However, they fly to the ground in the mornings to forage for insects, small rodents and reptiles on the ground. For

Shoebill
Balaeniceps rex

The Shoebill known as Whalehead or Shoe-billed Stork, is a very large stork-like bird. It derives its name from its massive shoe-shaped bill. Although it has a somewhat stork-like overall form and has previously been classified in the order Ciconiiformes, its true affiliations with other living birds is ambiguous. Some authorities now reclassify it with the Pelecaniformes. The adult is mainly grey while the juveniles are browner. It lives in tropical east Africa in large swamps from Sudan to Zambia
