Ryan Prince13,976An informal photowalk around the historical city of Winchester, the capital of the Kingdom of Wessex. The walk will take place within the bounds of the old city, and there will be a chance to see parts of the old city walls, the West Gate, the Great Hall, Wolvesey Castle, and of course Winchester Cathedral (we won't be going inside as this would be an extra cost, but you are welcome to visit before or after the walk - http://www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk/). At the time of this walk, the famous Winchester Hat Fair will be taking place. The Hat Fair is the longest running arts fair in the UK and will certainly provide plenty of photo opportunities. Most of the fair is centred around the Cathedral, but be prepared to encounter performers anywhere around the city centre.  This photowalk will be limited to around 10 or 12 people.  If you are coming from afar, Winchester is on one of the main rail routes and is easily accessible from the A34 and M3. There are two very handy Park and Ride car parks - one to the south off M3 junction 11, and one to the east off M3 junction 10 (http://www.winchesterparkandride.co.uk/). *Note that the last bus to either park and ride is at about 6.30pm - check their timetable for precise details.* *Meeting Point: by Westgate, High Street.* *Info about The Great Hall:* suggested donation for large groups (which we will be) is £1.50 per person. From previous experience, tripods with rubber feet are permitted the The Great Hall. Photography is *not* permitted in the Long Gallery which off the main hall and leads to the shop.Winchester Photowalk2015-07-04 12:00:009
UK Photography Community351,933Open to any flavour of photo as long as it has at least one significant circle. Can be abstract as well as real life. This is NOT specific to crop circles - just thought the video was fun. Just let your imagination flow. Must be your photo.   No limit to the amount of images SO LONG AS THEY FIT THE EVENT THEME & YOU AND THE PICTURE ARE FROM THE UK and/or Crown Dependencies, not forgetting Ireland  :)  Any photograph that doesn't fit the theme will be removed, so make sure your image has a connection to that circle! We look forward to seeing the images you share. Have a great week everyone. UK Photography Community351,933An event to celebrate all things farmy - be it Farm houses, Barns, crops, tractors, farm animals, livestock auctions, etc. Showcase the great British and Irish Agricultural Industry and landscape! Just so you city dwellers have half a chance to participate it is open to your allotment crops and to any specialist Farmers Markets if you have them. Sorry but that doesn't mean the local duck pond or the vegetable section at Tesco's! The event doesn't open until Thursday 18th Sept and closes the following Monday. That gives you two weekends to get out there.  It's harvest time in many parts of the country, so no excuses for lack of Farmy activity! Must be your photo.   No limit to the amount of images SO LONG AS THEY FIT THE EVENT THEME & YOU AND THE PICTURE ARE FROM THE UK and/or Crown Dependencies, not forgetting Ireland  :)  Any photograph that doesn't fit the theme will be removed, so make sure your image has a connection to agriculture production (not supermarket sales). We look forward to seeing the images you share. Have a great week everyone. Alan Gurling2,774*London Capital Ring Photowalk 2014 - Section TEN* _Onwards the Northern Path!_ 24th August 2014, Sunday South Kenton to Hendon Park - http://j.mp/1omYpCO Download Guide (PDF) - http://j.mp/V9rc0I Download Map (PDF) - http://j.mp/1nF5KHI *- - - - Background Story - - - -* I've decided that for 2014, I will be doing the London Capital Ring http://j.mp/1nTGfqs and will be completing it before the year ends. To make sure I cover everything before the year ends, and give allowance for unforeseen circumstances, I will be doing a section every three weeks. So far, I've been able to cover NINE sections with fellow awesome photowalkers Christin Tietjen, Simon Freeman, and Peter McClintock. *- - - - The walks, so far - - - -* Section 1 - Woolwich Foot Tunnel to Falconwood was done on 25 January 2014. A great walk, we passed through the most magnificent Severndroog Castle, and passed by many parks! This was one of the longest walks though. Section 2 - Falconwood to Grove Park was done on 22 February 2014. Shorter walk, but we got fantastic views around Eltham Palace at the end. Section 3 - Grove Park to Crystal Palace. Some magnificent sceneries mostly from Beckenham Park! A very photogenic bridge, and the big house by the golf course were beautiful highlights of this walk. I highly recommend this walk. Section 4 - Crystal Palace to Streatham Common / I have to say that this was so far, the one with the least amount of good stuff to take photos of. The Rookery in Streatham Common, just before the walk ends does save it though. Section 5 - Streatham Common to Wimbledon Park. Wonderful surprises! This was a very nice walk, and the forecast for the day being rainy, we were instead greeted with long sunny spells! Lots of fine scenery and Wandsworth Common took us by surprise. We ended the walk at a very fine pub/restaurant called The Woodman. Section 6 - Wimbledon Park to Richmond Bridge. Started sunny then heavy rains. Still, we were able to end it with some nice blue skies at Richmond Bridge and ended at a pub that's been there for hundreds of years! Section 7 - Has to be the highlight so far. Richmond is just photogenic! I highly recommend doing this route and ending after Syon Park. Section 8 - We pretty much followed the River Brent around. Had a nice view of the Hanwell Viaduct, as well as taking a detour through the Bunny Park. Section 9 - Probably one of the most tiring walks we've had! Two big hills (Horsenden Hill, and Harrow on the Hill) climbed, but it was very much worth it. Forecast was rain, but it was only for a short while. Stopped at THREE pubs on the day! We were given great views from both hills, and experienced the beautiful town in Harrow. The walk ended with a pizza meal at a local establishment in Kenton! *- - - - Travel Arrangements for the Day - - - -* The start of this journey can be reached via the London Overground Line & Bakerloo: The station is South Kenton. The walk ends at Hendon Central (Northern Line) andLondon Capital Ring Photowalk 2014 - Section TEN2014-08-24 11:00:004

I'm proposing a walk through Richmond town into Richmond Park and ending in a pub on Richmond Hill or on the Thames.  Date: Saturday 26 October.  Meet: Outside Richmond Station (accessible by Overland or District Line Underground) at 13.30. Will confirm nearer time exactly where we should meet.  I know the area well but would absolutely hesitate to call myself The Walk Leader. Scotland Photowalk 2015230Here is the official Event for the 2013 UK Seaside Photowalk. The official kickoff will be Saturday morning, probably around 9am. Then again, there will be people out much earlier to catch the sunrise, that's for sure.  Please indicate whether you will be joining us, so we have a rough idea of how many people we can expect. Please note that this is not a confirmed booking or anything. Whoever shows up will be welcome.  If you can join us only for one day, Saturday or Sunday, that'll be fine, too, of course. We'll make sure to announce tour details and meeting points in a few weeks.  We hope to see you all there. And if someone has good connections to the weather gods, please let them know that we'd prefer the "no rain" option.  Cheers Athena & AndyUK Seaside Photowalk2013-10-05 09:00:0071

Quiet London5,502Our next @113043236129480244763 walk is going to take us from the Monument at London Bridge, through the City and onto the Temple tube station. (This will be slightly longer than our previous walks, so this could be a good place to jump off if needed!) We'll then wind our way through to Covent Garden where we'll be able to get some excellent chances at street photography. We'd love it if you'd dawdle with us on our March walk through parts of inner London, laugh at bad jokes and catch up with old acquaintances and hopefully make some new ones. We look forward to walking, talking and shooting with you!Quiet London - Monumental Monument!2013-03-02 14:00:0030

Matt Shalvatis34,182This Sunday, November 11th, and every Sunday thereafter, is Sunday Music Mania day.  So what is it?  It’s a day where we share our favorite music with a worldwide G+ audience.  Find your favorite music on YouTube to share!   View last week’s shared playlist here…  http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqmb6HZAshGZ5vkoDJUwd1uDL-1vqubQy The Sunday Music Mania Quick Participation Guide! *It takes only five minutes to submit your favorite music!  Here’s what to do…* 1. Go to YouTube and find the song you want to share.  Copy the video’s URL (YouTube address). 2. Go to Google Plus.  Go to your “Share What’s New” box.  Click the video icon, paste in the URL from YouTube.  The video will be inserted into the post. 3. (Optional)  Share some additional information about this song.  Things like Genre (Rock, Country, Classical, etc), language (English, Spanish, etc) whether safe for work or not, and why you like it.   Song title and artist are generally inserted automatically.   4. Add the tag #SundayMusicMania , and +Sunday Music Mania and +Matt Shalvatis.  This is so I and others can find your post, and so you will receive the shared playlist.   5. Add a few circles, click Share and you’re done!   NOTES:  Before you post, you may want to view and listen to a video first, because not all videos are of the same quality.  What really counts here is the audio quality.  Many videos, especially of older songs, don’t really have a video at all.  Sometimes it’s just a 3 minute picture of the album cover.  So go for the good audio and don’t worry about the video portion.  That’s what we’re looking for!   NOTES:  For Listeners and Participants.  Please keep in mind the above are recommendations.  Please do not assume videos that you are not familiar with are automatically “Safe for Work,” even if they say so. *Anything else I should know?* Yes!  Please limit your entries to this theme to once a week.  This theme runs every Sunday; you’ll have plenty of time to submit all your favorites.  *What’s that tag and page again?*  The tag is #SundayMusicMania and +Sunday Music Mania!  Use it and share it! Sunday Music Mania - A Musical Extravaganza! - Week #42012-11-10 23:00:0017

So I just discovered the Network Railcard that gives discounts on train tickets (someone did mention it to me a while ago, but I forget who and when). In this day and age though, I have to physically go to a station and fill out a form to apply - there is no online ordering!

Fair warning, I may be in London a lot more from now on! The card will pay for itself in three trips at today's prices.

Hmm, if I was a freelance photographer, what would I do? Pay £100 to the organisers of Notting Hill carnival to help subsidise costs, and promise to share all of my photos with them; or, take my chance with the public and do what I want with my photos.

Touch choice.

Yubikey and LastPass

Does anyone have the above combination? I've manage to register my Yubikey on Google, so I know it is transmitting what it needs to, but when I try to register it on LastPass, it doesn't do anything. I've tried a Google search and that doesn't throw up a similar problem.

I've tried this on my Chromebook, on Chrome on my PC, and Firefox on my PC.

Yongnuo YN560-III and YN560-TX

I've been meaning to sort out an external flash for my Sony A6000 for a while as what I had leftover from my Canon days wasn't working. There was no way I was forking out over £200 for a Sony one, and even a (properly) compatible third-party one was over £100.

I did some digging around (and I'm sure I spoke to both +Peter McClintock and +Andy Burke about this) I plumped for the combination of a Yongnuo YN560-III speedlight and YN560-TX wireless transmitter. Both units were for Nikon, but as the flash is manual only, it only needs the centre pin to activate.

Both units arrived yesterday, but due to a lack of batteries I was only able to have a quick play with the flash unit. It's a large flash - probably not one you'd want on the top of an A6000 for a long time if you were handholding (it makes the camera topheav... more »

It's a large flash - probably not one you'd want on the top of an A6000 for a long time if you were handholding (it makes the camera top heavy as you would expect). The controls are fairly easy to understand once you've randomly pressed them enough times - the Chinese to English translation in the printed manual is a bit hit and miss with technical jargon.

I fixed the flash to the hotshoe mount to try it out and found it wouldn't trigger. This is due to a known problem with the black A6000 - Sony decided to paint the hotshoe mount (they didn't do this with the silver version) - which means the metal shoe of the flash cannot earth to the camera. It is a simple fix to sand off the paint from the underside of the hotshoe mount - I used a small emery board - and once remounted, the flash triggered without an issue.

This evening, after robbing some batteries from a remote control, I tried out the wireless trigger. Again, this is fairly easy to set up and get the flash paired. I fitted it to the camera and tested it, only to find it triggered once and then refused every shot afterwards. The transmitter was transmitting as I was able to test fire and adjust the flash from it, but it just would not trigger from the camera. Just to be sure the centre pin was okay, I put the flash back onto the camera - this worked fine.

After a bit of swearing, I decided to get the emery board out again just in case there were still remnants of paint on the hotshoe mount; it turns out there were. I refitted the transmitter and lo, it did fire!

All I need now is a shitload of Eneloop rechargeable batteries and a lighting stand or to, and I can get back to messing around with flashes.___

The new Hangouts web interface seems a lot better than the old one. Still not sure I'll be using video hangouts - I've managed to avoid them since being on G+.

Four large cats on boxes and a man on a stick, or a pyramid? If one MP 200 years ago had got his way, the pigeons would be perching on this in the centre of London.

I'm sat here contemplating life, the universe...everything, whilst listening to film soundtracks (randomly, through a Play Music station) and realised that we only get to hear the merest hint of the amazing music that gets composed.

Of course the theme tunes get a good airing at the cinema, and quite often form a theme running through the film, but many times the composer writes a piece of music for a particular character and we only get to hear a snippet of a four or five minute masterpiece.
