A few folks are commenting on how 'laggy' the Ubuntu Phone interface looks in a handful of the press videos floating around. 

We played with one of the (many) devices in the room I can't say we noticed any lag at all. The entire interface was fluid, smooth and, as we said yesterday, 'effortlessly nimble'. 

And when I say played, I do mean 'hands on'. This is my hand holding a Nexus running Ubuntu Phone.

Great story about how Google built some of the most important infrastructure for the Internet. I worked with an amazing number of people at DEC Research Labs who later joined Google; +Jeff Dean +Sanjay Ghemawat Mike Burrows, +Bill Weihl , Shun-Tak Leung, Luiz André Barroso, Krishna Bharat, Monika Henzinger, +David Redell , Puneet Kumar, Mark Hayter, Chris Demetriou, and probably more I am forgetting. I am obviously slow. I worked at AltaVista, Napster, and a couple other companies before joining Google.

fresh mac book pro .... linux with gnome is a much cleaner interface but this will do as its a UNIX base with shell. Still dual booting my linux OS tho, i love it too much to leave it

I could build Instagram in a week. Facebook could to, but it wouldn't be Instagram. It would be an obscure feature buried somewhere inside the Facebook app that would only work within Facebook. Instagram is magical because it does one thing really well. It stands alone, and is quick and easy to use. It isn't bogged down with the overhead of a much larger app or service. Instagram photos can be shared across lots of different social services. If Facebook engineers designed a mobile photo sharing app would it work like this? No.
