This is the place that runs painting holidays in France. Part 12th Century monastery (!) and part 18th century farmhouse. Grounds, lake, remains of a church...wow! All I need now is 7 people to come paint with me :)

Busy day tomorrow...Filling orders that piled up during my week away. It was good to slow down a bit and have someone else (mostly my mom :)) watch the kids and do housework. I even paid a visit to a real art supply store (sarcasm here) and attended 2nd Saturday Art Walk. All in all, a very good visit!

After dozens of requests, a live recording of four paintings from Flash Fiction being painted. Each painting is 10" x 10" on aluminum flashing, using encaustic paint I make in my studio by hand from local beeswax, resin and dry pigments.
The original video was an hour and seventeen minutes, so yes, this has definitely been sped up - about 5x. ;)

Last Day of 30x30! Wow, it's been intense. I think I am very much due for a break.
Yesterday was a bit of a crisis. Not a huge midlife crisis (any day now! ) but one of those “I’m-exhausted-and-frustrated-and-I-don’t-need-extra-helpings-of-stress” kind of crisis. I seriously wanted to paint a crab because I was feeling very crabby. I even looked at photos of crabs but couldn’t find one that would inspire me. So, instead, I tried to work on a scene from this month’s Virtual Paintout location (Isle of Man). I was going to paint the Laxey Wheel. In bits and pieces throughout the day, I did paint it. And it looks bad. Unblogably bad. I am probably going to throw it away.
When I realized there wasn’t much to do about it, I put it away, made myself a cup of tea, wasted a few minutes on Facebook and Google Plus, and decided to switch gears and work on my Right Brain Business Plan instead. I co... more »

Anyone do speed painting? I got a request via email but it's not really my specialty. The company is "looking to hire a speed painter, or rather a painter that is able to turn over ideas fairly quick onto canvas, for a few shows in April across the U.S. representing a new soda beverage. The shows will have anywhere from 2000 - 5000 attendees (not all guaranteed to have interaction) and the idea is to be able to visually represent, through speed paint work, their ideas and first impressions of the beverage's taste on a large wall (canvas)."
