The secrets of chocolate date back thousands of years, when the Mayas and Aztecs began to use it in drink form during religious and social ceremonies.  Chocolate is a natural product originating from the seeds of Theobroma cacao trees, and the word Theobroma derives from the Greek term “food of the gods”.  Chocolate composition is very complex and contains more than 300 substances of different chemical classes such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, esters, ethers, acids, phenols, pyrroles, pyridines, quinolines, pyrazines, oxazoles, furans, pyrones, lactones, etc.  It seems that chocolate, like tea and coffee, has the ability to change the levels of some chemicals in the brain...Also the occurrence of beta-phenylalanine in chocolate may be responsible for a sensation resembling “being in love”.

A turkey was chatting with a bull. I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree, sighed the turkey, but I haven’t got the energy. Well, why don’t you nibble on my droppings? replied the bull they’re packed with nutrients.

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story: Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there.

Please Share This ASAP

If you or someone you know are considering donating to the Red Cross due to the current tornado disaster, please highly consider donating directly to the local chapter rather than the national number.

When I moved back to New Orleans to help after Hurricane Isaac, I learned that people can donate directly to the chapter as opposed to texting the standard number.  I know it's not as convenient but the local support is much more valuable.

I just called the Central Oklahoma Red Cross to confirm payments can be sent directly to them.  You may also call them and pay by credit card.  Here  is the information:

For the thrill of it?

Are you in it for the rush? Does it have to be break-neck to get enjoyment or are you the type who can still appreciate the meander? In this over-stimulated, hard-wired, 24/7/365 world, have we gotten addicted to immediacy? Have we become programmed to think that down-time is somehow wasted time?

These days, if a vacation doesn't include 7 cities in 6 days, or a ride down the mountain on a bike while filming it from your helmet cam, it is somehow not a full and enriching experience.   Is it due to the one-uppmanship of the digitally connected world where the one with the best timeline and photography wins?

How to stop random people from starting a Hangout with you

Go to your Hangouts window, click on drop-down menu arrow, and click on Customize new requests.

Step 2 
In the Who can Hangout with you window, scroll down to Everyone else and change to desired option (send request).

Step 3
Click Save.

Personally, I like the new layout.

Clean look, better use of #whitespace  , and it capitalizes on adult brains being more visually oriented.

Will there be bugs and glitches? Certainly! Anything new always does until the kinks get worked out.

We subscribe to this idea in our house. It is the underlying constant when teaching him about life.

Mom & Dad will always love you, no matter what.

We have said this for years. Conversations about missteps, mistakes and life lessons. We can get through anything, together. Why? Because we love each other and mistakes don't change that or make the love disappear.

When children understand this concept, communication during the twists, turns & roadblocks of growing up stays open & consistent.

On a lark, three weeks ago I decided to try my hand at a hangout on air. I put out the call to my circles and asked who might want to be a guinea pig and spend 30 or so minutes placating me. Good people, some of whom I have known since I logged in to this platform for the first time, raised their hands and were kind enough to join me. It went not all together badly.

I enjoyed it, and decided to try my hand at it again the following week at the same time.

The second week more people raised their hands and joined in.  We talked of everything and nothing, at the same time. The conversation was a bit stiff as I felt an invisible pressure to perform.
