I'm gonna go ahead and say that visiting the new G+ for the first time seeing it on a computer while being less than sober is making for quite a confusing and frustrating experience. There is iShit jumping out at me from behind the iBushes everywhere my cursor moves.

Back to the iApp I go. After another trip to the home bar and a quick call for takeout, of course ;)

On this day in 1806 the first mention of the "cocktail" was made in print. The editor of the federalist newspaper "The Balance, and Columbian Repository" of Hudson, NY in response to a readers question about a previous article mentioning this mysterious "cock-tail" used to describe drinks used to loosen up constituents at a political rally. He wrote: "A cocktail is a stimulating liquor composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters... It is supposed to be an excellent electioneering potion, inasmuch as it renders the heart stout and bold, at the same time it befuddles the head."

This cocktail recipe is now known as the "Old Fashioned" because once guys like Jerry Thomas started making "fancy" drinks in the mid 1800s traditionalist imbibers would ask for their cocktail the "old fashioned way."

He really did stop loving her today, and my hometown will never be the same.

George and Tammy lived down the road from me growing up, and the infamous story of George taking the riding mower to the bar since Tammy hid his keys went right down the main road near my childhood home. The man is a legend in many more ways than just his music, which was the epitome of what country music used to be before the bubblegum cheerleaders with their overproduced pop-crap drove the pickup off the cliff. Waylon Jennings said if everyone could sing like they wanted to everyone would sing like George. 

Time for a big ole jug of White Lightnin.

Well, I tried four times to upload this to the Selfy Sunday project event page but it kept coming up as a black box, so I'm just putting it here and moving on with my day. I have much more important and interesting things to do with my time than wrestle the googles.

I don't have any shots of +Eric James Leffler that I can find without quite a bit of effort, so instead I'm posting a shot I took while out shooting with him. As I look back through my catalog I'm starting to realize that the majority of my best work was done with him present. That doesn't even begin to explain the badassedness that is having him as a friend and colleague. Makes me miss him more than I already did.

Happy birthday, old friend. I may be 2000 miles away but I'm there in spirit. I may even go out and shoot today in your honor.

This is a shot from the Moss Beach marine reserve a few years ago. I felt like there was an epic battle happening between the straight trees and the gnarled ones, so I processed it to show the tree blood that had been shed here on the front lines of world war tree.

Last night I recorded a bunch of video on my 7D. I went to upload them but my CF card reader had some bent pins so I took my card out, laid it on the counter, and waited until this morning when I could find my camera cable. When I plugged it in it said the card was empty. No Files. They're nowhere to be found on my computer so it's obvious the reader didn't actually work, but I definitely never did anything to the card other than take it out of the reader and lay it down on the counter. 

WHAT HAPPENED? And most importantly, how do I recover these files?!?!

I understand that death is an uncomfortable subject for a lot of people. I also understand the need to say something when a family member of a friend dies. But please, please refrain if you can't say something personal and meaningful. Copy/pasting some empty rhetoric from "whatdoisaywhensoneonedies.com" is worse than saying nothing at all. Of course you're "sorry for our loss" and we're "in your thoughts and prayers." Reading through an endless deluge of identical comments is just dreadful at a time when irritation is the last thing you need. So if you have something personal to say, by all means say it. But save the stale canned comments for birthdays and Hallmark holidays.
