Visited the site of the massive avalanche on Loveland Pass that claimed 5 lives yesterday. Thoughts are with their families and the lone survivor. Be extra careful out there.

"End of the Gold Rush"
There is fresh snow on the high mountain peaks, a cold bite to the air, the last of the golden leaves cling to the thousands of aspens below Capitol peak. A sure sign that the short but beautiful Autumn season in the Rockies is coming to an end. Winter is on its way. High above the normally lush green valley is one of Colorado's 54 "fourteeners", Capitol Peak". Part of the staggering Elk Mountains, Capitol Peak is the 30th highest mountain in the state, and surely one of the most impressive.

This warm tones in this photo appear very warm, but I can still remember how cold my hands were after making this image. It was an extremely cold evening in the dune field.

No questions asked, this was the most unusual light I've witnessed out of all my time in the field. I was actually up here on a stormy evening, not thinking about taking photos, but rather scouting how the wildflowers were coming along. I estimated, by looking at the horizon that there was no chance any light would break through at sunset. There must have been the smallest of breaks in the sky because for about one minute exactly at sunset, this unbelievable red ribbon of light hit the mountains. Alpenglow like this isn't all that unusual, but to have crisp lines on the top and bottom of the light is something I've never seen. It was bizzare to see this red light under such dark stormy skies. I grabbed my camera and set up the first composition I could find. And like I said, the light lasted only about a minute and then it was gone.

"House on Fire"
The Four Corners region of the United States is well known for its wealth of cultural treasures. Ancient people had made use of this area for thousands of years before the common era. The Anasazi, or Ancestral Puebloans are the best known of these inhabitants largely due to their impressive architectural skills, which can be seen in areas all around the Four Corners region. Probably the most famous example are the spectacular cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde National Park. A remote canyon area of Southeast Utah, far removed from the more famous National Parks like Arches, Canyonlands and Mesa Verde, is littered with these cultural treasures. If you keep a keen eye while hiking along these canyon bottoms you will see many signs of Anasazi life. Cliff dwellings, graneries, pottery and rock art adorn the canon walls. The most intriquing to me, by far, is the ruin often... more »

"Breckenridge at Dawn"
http://www.natezeman.com/photo/breckenridge-at-dawn/
Breckenridge was formally created over 100 years ago in 1859 during the Pikes Peak gold rush. At this time Breckenridge was Part of the Utah Territory, many years before it was admitted into statedhood. Like most of the mid 1800s mining boom towns of the West, gold mining in Breckenridge mostly came to a hault at the end of the century. To this day, many of the original buildings, mines, dredges, and dredge trailings are scattered about the county. On December 16, 1961 Breckenridge Ski Resort was founded on Peak 8 of the Ten Mile Range, almost exactly 50 years before I took this photo. Since then Breckenridge has experienced another boom, this time drawing people from all over the world for snow instead of gold. The resort now operates on four peaks of the Ten Mile Range. Peak Ten, Nine, Eight... more »

I've put together a fairly small circle of 66 nature photographers that I like on Google+. If I start to get burned out on nature photography, I can always look to this to find inspiration. Please share this if you like it.
I'm trying to keep this circle fairly small. While the bigger circles tend to be more popular, because you're able to add a larger number of deserving people, I think that adding 500 people at once will overwhelm your page with so many posts that you can't digest them all.
The first time I shared this circle, it had mostly color landscape photographers, so I've tried to give it more diversity, and mostly added black & white, underwater, wildlife, and night photographers. I've excluded plenty of great nature photographers, like +John Paul Caponigro & +Colby Brown because I wanted to keep this focused on a tight niche, and they... more »

COLBY'S PHOTOGRAPHIC CIRCLE OF INSPIRATION
I have finally put together my 1st circle of photographers that I personally find inspiring. Nearly every genre of photography is represented here. These are individuals that are constantly providing photography work that speaks to me. They are hand picked and all active on G+. It includes full time professionals and amatures alike...all that create compelling photography. Everyone in this circle has less then 30k followers (although a few are very very close) and many have just a few hundred. Please enjoy...I know I have!
If you like what you find in this circle, please share it with your followers to help these individuals reach a wider audience. I will share more circles of those I find Inspiring in the future.
