Since nearly the beginning of Daily Photography Themes (DPT) on G+, FireFriday has been a place for people to share photographs of anything fire related.  I've had the pleasure of meeting some great people through this DPT and have been absolutely inspired by you all.  I've enjoyed the different takes on the subject and continue to look forward to more of your outstanding contributions to FireFriday.  
Also, due to the limit of 500 in a circle-share, the pages +Wandering Shutterbug and +Prometheus Imaging were left out of the circle unfortunately, but your contributions are no less appreciated.  It was the only way I could share the whole circle.

Water drop from a Type 1 Helitanker used to wet the landing pad for another Type 1 helicopter that was inbound to pick us up after a hot day in the brush.  This was the Day Fire, 2006, near Malibu and Ojai, CA.

Taken from across the water of Lake Oroville, turned out to be 3 miles away.   The 18-200mm at 200mm handled the distance ok, I think.

Wildfire captured in it's truest form: Wild

Here's a photo taken during a wildfire in northern California along the infamous HWY 70 corridor along the Feather River, specifically a ridge that spurs from Red Hill.  
The early morning rays of sunlight pierce the smoke as embers drop from the sky. The flames grow outward in a perfect circle until they all converge into one.  It was an amazing site to see.  
In the end, it was a two day firefight that started off of the highway by the river at 2500' and ended at the communication towers at the peak at 6300' elevation.  This photo is the morning of day two, when a crewmember woke the captain and said, "there's a crackling sound and I think it's fire."  Captain replied: "It's probably just a bear," and rolls over.  We were packed up anddiggin... more »

a rare glimpse and a happy ending
During the late summer/ early fall the Northern California fire season comes to roaring heights. This picture comes from the burning operations of multiple wildland firefighting crews over the course of three days and nights. This burn-out operation was attributed to saving the town of Hayfork, CA from the impending firefront.

This was taken after sunset at the TRE fire we had about a week ago. This is for +Grayson Hartman and his #firefriday daily photography theme. This area has been hit pretty hard by wildfires over the past year. Not much tinder left to burn so they are probably on the safe side for about 20+ years now.

Sharing my Drinks on Fire shot that was made for +Chrysta Rae's Photography Scavenger Hunt this past March. It was a blast to make, as it involved lighting Bacardi 151 on fire in the living room on a large mirror. Though this is a composite image of the best flame captures in multiple shots, the colors and reflections are true to life.

This chrome extension i just wrote is removes the height limit of the images on google+ stream. Also eliminate the #blackspace around the images. +Vic Gundotra should see this, also #whitespace stream people who have some design complaints. The result is really sweet. Im sure everyone related #photography will like this.

+Alex Leonard and +Alan Shapiro probably love that. Open the ideas for make it better. Please rate and share if you like it.

* #FireFriday * - An extreme "catface"
It's that time again - Share your images of Fire. Anything fire goes - from a wildfire, to a tip of a match shot macro, to even smoke from a fire, fire houses, and fire hoses. Fire People! Please tag my name so I'll see them.

About this photo: Taken in '07, this is an extreme case of a catface - a fire scar at the base of a tree. Thought too dangerous to cut, wood was placed inside to make the fire larger in hopes to have it fall on it's own. Very often trees can withstand large catfaces and survive, but this was too big. The day was getting long and it hadn't fallen yet so .. a little nip in the back with a chainsaw and it's down, safe to work around, and no longer a threat to the crews and the control of the wildfire. Hope you enjoy a little slice of my past life and don't mind me sharing these :)

Toad Chaser and Father

In the midst of Chrysta Rae's March Scavenger Hunt - which is now completed (http://goo.gl/9KSfc) - I still couldn't let a possibly epic sunset get away. I rushed to the park to watch it unfold. The sun dipped below a bank of clouds and the light never came. Switch to Plan B - silhouettes on the lake. I didn't have time to set up a tripod so I cranked up the ISO and shot this handheld f/5.6 at 1/200th, 150mm.
Looking forward to seeing all the Scavenger Hunt photos!

Blue Door
Island of Capri, Italy

You've maybe seen a few other posts from me about Capri, but it's because it was such a beautiful day when I was there last year. There's a system of fortifications on the rugged and isolated parts of the Island to protect the military quarters at the rear from enemy attack.

I didn't find any info on this particular structure, but believe it's probably part of the fortification system, high on top of Monte Solaro.

The first day of summer 2008, June 21st, set off a summer to remember, as I expect +Grayson Hartman remembers. Starting the previous day in the Coastal Range, dry lightning busts lit up California to the tune of over 2000 fires. End of June thru July I could barely see, ....or breath. First shot is from ~Paradise, CA northwards, and the second shot is from around Oregon Peak northwards to the S. and Middle Fork Feather River confluence.
