I enjoyed the book, so I'm looking forward to this movie.  But for those who haven't read the book, I bet the trailer doesn't make a lick of sense.

For the record, I'm going to see this on Sunday morning at a fabulous theater where I can have brunch (Batman & pancakes - hooray!).  And I promise not to threaten to kill anyone in regards to anything to do with this movie, unless they're talking or texting during it.  That's really the only sort of justifiable violence situation.

I like comedy & satire, but it bugs me when people get the message wrong.  Yes, if you only read the headline it makes it seem like the paper/writer doesn't like atheists.  But if you read the article, it's actually the opposite.  Should I be getting my news from satire sites?  Probably not. But I feel like they should have a little journalistic integrity anyway.

We're going to the Galapagos Islands with friends next March (woo-hoo!), so I decided to poke around and figure out what the airfare would be. (Better to commit & then figure out the consequences, right?) Apparently this far in advance, the choices are a bit limited. This return flight on offer is a world tour vacation in & of itself.

Thundershirt "hack"

Due to Blue's recent run-in with a couple bullies, we needed something to keep him from scratching the wounds on his shoulders while they healed. The Thundershirt, while not cheap, has the distinct advantage over dog t-shirts in this regard, since you don't have to wrestle it onto them (it's fastened with velcro) and the snugness is adjustable. Blue refuses to wear his outside the house, but otherwise it works like a charm.

I've been re-reading a book across multiple devices and have been really annoyed by the sync issue. This seems to be the easiest way to reset it without having to reset each device, so I thought I'd post it in case anyone else is curious.

NOTE: Although this post says it won't work if you do this from your actual Kindle device, I did it using my Kindle 2 and it worked just fine. YMMV.

The Amazon Showroom Conundrum

Just ordered a TV from Amazon that yes, we went to Best Buy to look at. However, before you condemn us as "those people," we tried to get it at Best Buy and there was not actually a single one in stock anywhere in Atlanta. True story. They were willing to match Amazon's price (which was $100 less), but when they went to get the one they showed in stock from the back, lo & behold, they had none. And neither did any of their other stores in the area. They were willing to take the one down off the wall and sell it to us at a discount, but we couldn't be assured there'd be a remote, or a stand (which we need since it'll be on a table), so we decided to pass. Fantasy Remakes

A story popped up in my stream about a movie remake of The Princess Bride that was being directed by Jason Reitman & was to star Paul Rudd as Wesley & Mindy Kaling as Buttercup. Turns out it was a bad reporting - Jason Reitman stages live readings of classic movies, and it was one of these that featured Rudd & Kaling, not a remake of the movie. So there's no reason to be concerned - the original movie remains untouched for now.

However, it did get me thinking about what remakes I would really like to see. I think having someone really good rewrite & remake Episodes 1-3 of Star Wars is a no-brainer - probably everyone would get behind that one. What other movies are out there that you'd like to see remade because they failed to live up to their potential?
