Plus One Collection - Update on Sales

Wow - what a day.

Really appreciate all you who spread the word today, and who ordered the copies of the book. Remember how I thought 100 copies would probably not sell and may be too many? So glad +Marc Evans suggested to me in email that we limit the edition by time rather than number of copies, since the #1 goal is to raise money and we shouldn't have limits on that.

So with that, glad to announce if we had a limit of 100 copies sold, all books would have been sold on day 1. Wow - thank you, thank you, thank you!

Please continue to support the cause by spreading the word, and if you have the ability, buying copies of the book.

We're just starting, but the amount raised for +Kiva in one day is already in 4-digits.

Since winter has finally reached, I'll be going into standby mode until the weather warms up or until spring!

Okay Photographers. I could use some help with brainstorming!

I am have newly moved into doing photography for a living. I am looking for various forms of revenue. I understand that this is the hard part -- making a living for a new photographer whose portfolio is still fairly small.

So I am looking for some ideas on who/where/how to market myself to people who can/will buy photographs. Some ideas I already have:

1) Calendars. This is the season to put together some nice calendars - but I am not ready, so I will keep this in mind for next year. Do people buy calendars throughout the year?

2) Postcards and Blank greeting cards. This is good for craft shows and "Starving Artist" street sales. Perhaps consignment stores, gift shops, or tourist stores would be interesting in buy bulk or selling consignment?

Wow, 8000+ followers

This place is amazing, if it wasn't for Google+ I would never be this motivated in taking photos. Let's face it, I know I'm bragging a little too much in comparison to how many followers +Thomas Hawk or even the all mighty +Trey Ratcliff have (they get that much in a day, YIKES!!) but let me have the spotlight for a little... OK guys ;)

Update #4 - PLEASE READ - Let's Talk Format + New Page

First, those who are interested in a book - please make sure to follow new page I created specifically for the book. Soon all updates will be done through the page.

Second, let's discuss the format of the book.

The way I see it - we'll have two versions of the book, hard copy and ebook.

Hard copy will be fulfilled through Blurb. With no capital to start with, and with 200+ photographers (and number is still growing) willing to contribute, Blurb model seems to be the most practical. Anyone can order and they ship to quite a few countries now. However, the book is not going to be cheap with so many photographers. We're probably talking 150-200 pages when all is said and done, which would put us at a price of $75 when we add $5 charity contribution to it and before shipping charges.... more »

Behind the lens - Nightlife

I still remember when some photographers would post a shot taken with a phone or with some other camera of what they were shooting and how they were shooting it.

Well today is my turn, this one is one of my first behind the lens shots and the photograph I'm talking about has already been posted here for a while now ( http://j.mp/sHsP0q )

A Nikon D3100 with a Nikkor 10-24 @ 10mm f/11, tripod and cable release were used in this shot. The picture is a little dark but was worth it ;)
