The Majestic Matterhorn, Switzerland

This crazy idea of shooting Matterhorn during sunset is as wild as it looked! I took the Gonergrat Bahn from Zermatt to the top and walk down halfway to get this shot. Unfortunately the last train goes off just before sunset, this mean I have to walk down hill.

And guess what, the train shoot straight up to the top took 35mins; my downhill walk in the dark? 5 hours...it totally kill my legs...but I hope this photograph will make it`s justice!

Blast from the Past - Blue Mosque of Istanbul, Turkey

My life has been pretty extreme lately. Part of it is finding someone who use to be very close with me is a real evil in my life and is trying to ruin my whole family. While the other part of good news is I have recently qualified as an AMPA (Associate of Master Photographer Association) & many more exciting upcoming photography project for 2014!

I find the fluctuation is hard to cope with, but I guess this is what make life challenging and interesting! No matter how, I won`t give up.

Well, as I never really celebrate my birthday this year (due to my grandma just pass away recently), I have decided to make my self an epic birthday cake in photographic way. Presenting the beautiful sunset of Turkey, Istanbul. Blue Mosque it self as the cake, pillars as the candles  ;)

The Magical Matterhorn - Gornergrat, Switzerland

A magical and rarely seen moment of the famous Matterhorn. Well, to get this shot I almost got my legs broken because of the 5 hours downhill walk (usually I don`t walk more than 20mins in Malaysia). I guess this worth the walk though

Tech Deet:
Camera - Nikon D800
Lens - 24-70mm f/2.8
Exif - f/16 ISO50 at 36mm
Processing - 2 exposure blended with -2ev & +2ev using luminosity masking.

The Dream Village - Hallstatt, Austria

Hallstatt is best know for it`s dreamy & surreal view of the village and salt mining. I`ve always dreaming about visiting this place and capture the exquisite moment of it.

For only a short 2 nights stay, I`m already madly in love with this place. The people, the food and surrounding is all fantastic! It`s all of the reluctant and sadness to leave, but I guess that`s what make `travel` beautiful.

Ever since I've obtained the MacPro with Retina display, I always wanted to remaster some of my old favourite work, together with my new processing technique.

I wouldn't say this is a much better version than the previous 1. But seeing improvement in colours, lighting and cropped composition is always delightful :)

Mirror of Otago - Central Otago, New Zealand 100% Pure

Still remember this evening while I was driving back from Wanaka to Queenstown and exploring spot for photographing the beautiful sunset, I found this sweet spot in Central Otago.

This area is fenced, I assumed it was private property, but no one is around to approve my entrance to this location. As clock is ticking and sun slowly started to set, I decided to enter anyway.

Finally is the shocking moment~when I was about to leave this area, I notice a little sign writing on the guard house, and it goes like "hunter might be at work, visitors must report at the reception" with a sign of a hunter shooting at bird. Oh Man! That gave me an instant goose bump!
I`m lucky that there is no bullet whole on my body :P

Manarola, no doubt it is one of the most picturesque fishing village of Le Cinque Terre.

This scene is especially unique and charming when it`s illuminated with beautiful sunset lighting and wild cloud. I have to say I`m really fortunate to be here at the right time.

Bliss of Santorini

Being able to include Santorini in 1 of my destination in my Europe expedition sure is a bonus (although the 9hrs economy ferry I ride is pain in the ass).

But I definitely enjoyed my stay here, although I do not stay in hotel that offers amazing panoramic view, but staying right at the entrance of Oia cost 5-6 times less than staying in here! That is definitely a good deal for a budget traveller like me, I can walk to this place from my hotel in only less than 10 mins and I think it`s definitely better because I got to explore around. And not to mention the food here...Santorini offers some of the most delicious food I ever had in Europe ;)
Hope to be back again!

Venetian Rush - Santa Maria della Salute, Venice, Italy

This is 1 of my fav view of Venice. I`m already deeply in love with this Basilica on my first sight, therefore i come up with an idea to photograph some light trails from the boats which I don`t often see from photograph of venice, just to make it a little bit more exciting and dynamic :)

Tech Details :
Nikon D800 + 24-70mm at 40mm
Iso100 f16 30secs
I`m still pretty impressed with D800 dynamic range that allows me to recover the lost shadow and rescue the highlight, only 1 exposure for overall scene and 3 shots to blend in all the light trails.

Travelling around Europe with a tight budget is real tough. But I`m glad we`ve made it so far and stuff wasn`t getting too bad. I`ve been really busy getting from places to places, plus busy scouting and researching shooting spot and don`t really have time to sit back relax and process my photos yet. But stay tuned. They will be coming soon

And oh! I nearly forgot to mention this is my first time driving on the right! Man that`s challenging and so much fun!

The City of Music - Salzburg

Missed my flight from Paris to Prague, so I altered the route by taking a long haul train from Paris to Salzburg. On that day, we also spent the night taking rest at a bus stop, as we refused to pay 80euros for a hotel just for a 6 hours rest...I`ve seen homeless people sleeping in bus stop; but me myself is a first timer, and I got to say it doesn`t feel good at all!

But finally, we have safely arrived at Salzburg after almost 20 hours of train ride. Salzburg was birthplace of the famous composer, Mozart and where the famous musical film, The Sound of Music was filmed.

No wonder it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Salzburg, is truly a lovely little city. I`m already deeply in love with this place once I walked into the Old town area of Salzburg. There are endless of beautiful little shops in the area and selling stuff ranging from... more »

The Art Science of Valencia - Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias

This Ultra modern architecture has always been in my bucket list to photograph since years ago. The design it self is really amazing and it does looks like sibling of Sydney Opera House.

So I`ve visited Valencia only to photograph this piece of ultra modern architecture, but in addition, I`ve also unintentionally found out Valencia is very romantic place, much better than Barcelona in my opinion...Maybe I just don`t like over busy streets or too much tourist :)

Tech details -
7 exposure hdr merged using HDR Efex Pro 2
-1ev exposure is used to blend back into the sky and +1 for the water for a more natural result.
Nik Viveza for some local contrast and Color Efex Pro 4 for further sweetening.

Cheers,

The learning curve of Digital Photography - how`s yours?

I started learning photography in a very informal way. Not like the traditional students, I do not attend any classes or courses about photography (which I assume many today doesn`t).

So I do not learn from the basics stuff like composition,ISO,Aperture, shutter speed and etc. Where I learn from is ONLY "Google & Youtube", and to be honest, I started learning the intermediate stuff first before all the basics. Does that really matter? Well, I don`t really think so, as long as you can see your self progressing from time to time.

The only thing which is quite disappointed to see, is how much are we photographers paying for a expensive camera gear and lenses, yet, the amount of lights and shadow details our camera is able to produce is so poor. I think everyone will basically spend more time out therean... more »

The only thing which is quite disappointed to see, is how much are we photographers paying for a expensive camera gear and lenses, yet, the amount of lights and shadow details our camera is able to produce is so poor. I think everyone will basically spend more time out there and enjoy shooting if the captured digital file have 90% close to what we see from the view finder (not digital); but not spending more time behind the computer to process the image for hours (though you might find fun in post processing  ).

So, the ability to capture lights and shadows detail, which in photographic term, the Dynamic Range, has always been my biggest concern. TBH I concern it even more than the composition it self since I first started learning. There is a always a question in my mind, what if I wanna capture the composition with strong backlighting, but I`m unable to pull out the beautiful details from the shadow area and the beautiful bright sky? Huge Disappointment. ps: I`m naturally not the guy who like to work with GND filter although it might come in really handy sometime.

As this is the case, I started focusing all my energy on learning how to create High Dynamic Range images, this is because later on my photographic journey, I do not want to have worry on how I should compose my frame. For ex, move my frame around to avoid shooting directly in the sun, or only work with the right lighting condition.

After a few years since I started, I guess I`ve started getting on track with the image processing. And to be completely honest, I only concern about my photography composition since last year.

And hence this is the story of my learning curve. What`s yours?___

Road of Rejuvenation

Many have asked me to defend and explain my self during the `incident`. I choose not to. Why?

Sometimes it is better to keep silent than to tell others what you feel ; because it hurts badly when you come to know that they can hear you but cannot understand you.

"A public apology for all the people"

I am sure most of you would know by now for the mistake I made on my latest image titled, “The Poseidon” in which I stole an image (the sky) of a photographer (from Google Images) who goes by the name +Zsolt Zsigmond  and composite it in one of my images. I take full responsibility for my action and I sincerely apologise to all of you for letting you down too with this one mistake. What is important is that the photographer whose image I had used has forgiven me for what I had done and that is what matters the most.

Having said that, I would like to be clear on some facts about my work too. This is the FIRST and LAST mistake I will EVER make. The rest of my work is Authentic and if it were not, they would’ve been taken down a long time ago.

However, this incident has also given me the opportunity to realise who are true friends and who stood by my side after I admitted to my mistake.

For those who can`t accept my mistake & apology, please feel free to unfollow,unfriend,un-circle me.

The Valley of God

Wake up 4am in the early morning and took a 1.5hrs walk into Hooker Valley track is well worth. Although not the dramatic and strong sunlight that I favor, but if you look closely, there is a face feature on the cloud...I guess the god is smiling at me..

My exhibition venue has confirmed, 1st stop will be The Camera Museum, Penang!!! If you happened to visit Penang,Malaysia between 2nd of August-31 of August, please feel free to drop by 49 Lebuh Muntri, 10200 Penang George Town to view my work. Cheers!

Church of the Good Shepherd at Night

This is probably 1 of the most photographed church in New Zealand. To be honest...I don`t really know what`s so special about it, I didn`t even know the background and history of it, and I don`t even bother to walk closer to the window to take a look at the interior!

And it is actually quite funny for me to see the tourist walking around the church to take photograph even when it is raining! Me, Jennifer FongJames McGregor,Robert Baldwin ,Luke Austin & Josephine Yeoh had a good time making fun of it

But knowing this place is perfect for stargazing at night, I have come to witness it for my self.
The only thing I don`t like about this photograph? THERE IS NO LUPINES AS MY FOREGROUND!!!
