~Big Sky~

When I moved to Montana for a year many years ago, I vividly remember finally understanding what people meant when they refered to it as Big Sky Country. Every once and awhile the sky here in California seems a bit bigger and reminds me of those Montana Skies. Along 267 just outside of Truckee, CA

As the sun nears the horizon towards the west, the contrast between light and shadow in the rolling hills of the Palouse is a photographers dream. With so many possibilities for amazing photographs, the sun will probably set before you can shoot them all. That's why you get up the next morning and do it all over again at sunrise.

~Stay~

A 10 minute training session with Daisy before playtime with my daughter and son-in-law's dog Ein at the dogpark. She is getting better about sitting on command and we just started working on stay. She seemed to be puzzled at why on earth she should stay there since I was way over here. She humored me though and stayed put. She doesn't seem to be a bit camera shy either :)

~Red Wing Flyby~

I was driving home and stopped to see what the storm cell building near the Sutter Buttes would produce in hopes of catching some lightning photos. The change in the atmosphere was palpable. I noticed a couple of jackrabbits heading along the side of the road and some deer off in the distance were on the move too. Moments later a large flock of Red Wing Blackbirds moved through, staying low to the fields as they quickly headed off in the same direction as the other wildlife. Moments later the breeze died and an odd silence only added to the anticipation. Fat rain drops and a cool breeze rapidly turned into a brief downpour. No lightning here that day but it was a real treat to enjoy the June shower.

The forecast calls for temps to hit 107 degrees by Saturday so I had to get out and enjoy the nice weather today. Took a quick drive down to the Central Valley to see how things are growing and what wildlife was about. The fields are quickly filling in, but there is still plenty of room for waterfowl and wading birds.
