Meilani MacDonald2,935Small Business circle 1 of 2Hello small business peeps! I'm a small biz person and naturally I want to connect with other small biz owners. I really feel we all have so much to share with each other and to learn from one another as we navigate this world called Google+ that provides us with so many great tools and resources to support our small biz efforts. I also think it's a good thing to support each other, and lift each other up as we work towards our goals. So I've been collecting small biz people and shared small biz & entrepreneurs circles, because those are the people I most want in my own circles, to follow, to connect with, and to support. I have 700+ small bizzes in my circle, so I've split it into two circles to share with you. This is #1 of the 2, and #2 is next. Let's hear it for small business!Btw, speaking of supporting small bizzes, I host a TGIF Biz Networking Hangout every Friday at 4pm pst, now a Hangout on Air. It is a chance to give yourself and your biz a little promo, and I feature special guests who are small biz owners and who have all kinds of good advice and info to share with other small biz owners. Please check my profile for more info or to watch last Friday's episode, where we talked about QR codes and great ideas for how to use them, and also talked about the value of keeping content fresh on your blogs and web sites, and when and why to blog, or not to blog. #smallbusiness #sharedcircles #entrepreneur +CircleCount +Shared Circles Shared a Circle with You +Shared a Circle with you2012-05-28 18:22:494491159

Rob Gordon22,157Entrepreneurs, Self-Employed & Small Business OwnersUPDATED SHARED CIRCLE: Part 2 of 2: M through Z (by last name). This is the most recent update to the popular "entrepreneurs" circle that posted a few months ago. As you can see, it has gotten bigger than 500 people so I have had to split it alphabetically into two parts. These two circles includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own business or venture. There are more than 800 people here, but this has been reviewed extensively since it was last published -lots of fantastic new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of really awesome business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. This is a really diverse group and includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures and are wildly successful, others are just getting started and haven't made it yet. As can be expected, it is a little tech heavy, but represents most industries and many different types of business. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in small business issues and always seem welcome to help entrepreneurial efforts. The people in these circles post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you check this out. I do want to add the disclamer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and this is just a tiny fraction of them - the ones I have curated. It seems that about two seconds after I publish this I always remember someone I should have included so just me know if you think you should be here. I republish this periodically and generally add everyone who comments on the post. As with all circles of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either update your existing circle, pick and choose the ones you like or use these as a trial circles - whatever works for you. I'm not even sure Google will let you add all this many names at once so you may have to come back if you want to add all of them. The technology for this is not perfect, but I am trying to do my part to help build a highly interconnected community of entrepreneurs here on Google+. I hope you find the people in this circle interesting.RobReshares welcome and appreciatedIMPORTANT: You don't want to follow people based on where their last name fits in the alphabit do you? Make sure you also take a look at the first part of this list:LINK TO PART I (A-L):http://goo.gl/VLoYH#smallbusiness#business#entrepreneurs #startup#sharedcircles2012-04-18 18:51:01373873560

Rob Gordon18,830Entrepreneurs, Self Employed & Small Business. This is the latest update to my shared circle for "entrepreneurs" which includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own small business or venture. Lots of time has been spent organizing this since it was first published - many new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of interesting business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. I do want to add the disclamer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and these are just the ones I have curated. This still probably doesn't even include everyone in my own circles who are entrepreneurs or self employed so let me know if you want to be included. I republish this about once per month. This is a really diverse group of people that includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures, some have startups that are just getting going and some are wildly successful. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in entrepreneurial and small business issues. The professionals in this circle post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you at least take a look. As with any circle of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either pick and choose the ones you like or use it as a trial circle - whatever method works for you. I also recently learned that you can save circles to your Google contacts so you can save this information there even if you don't want to use this toward your 5000 limit. I hope you find the people in this circle interesting. I certainly do. RobReshares welcome and appreciated#sharedcircles#smallbusiness #entrepreneurs #startup2012-03-13 20:32:12500663852
Joel Kanzelmeyer14Here is a good circle to add if you are just starting out on Google+ or even if you have gathered a large following. These people are power users and they will interact with you a lot and help you start to harness the true power of G+!Add this circle and call it "Power Users" and actively participate in their discussions. You can go from 50 people having you in there circles to over 500 people having you in their circles in less than a week!Make this part of your daily routine:Comment on 10 different people's posts in this circle!Mention these users in your own posts, they will see the mention and usually respond. And last but not least, Spend an hour a day browsing the web to find interesting and compelling content to share with these people! If you can find funny or gripping videos, articles or pictures to share, they will get picked up and circulated like wildfire!GOOD LUCK!2012-01-17 16:56:42300303
Rob Gordon13,043Entrepreneurs & Freelancers. This is my circle for self described Entrepreneurs and Freelancers - which includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. As I said before, I don't want to pretend that this list is definitive or even close to being complete. There are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and there are many circles of entrepreneurs that have already been shared - these are just the ones I have curated in my own circle. This probably doesn't even include everyone in my own circles who are entrepreneurs or self employed as it is almost impossible to go through everyone's profile. Just let me know if I have inadvertently left you out - I will be posting this in the circles database sometime soon. Feel free to reshare, but as with any shared circle, I do recommend some discretion in adding a circle of this size to your stream. This one might be a little different in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrety entrepreneurs" that are common in other shared circles here- though there are a few. For the most part hese are real small business owners or people or with an entrepreneural mindset, and there are lots of smart people here. #entrepreneur #smallbusiness2012-01-06 22:47:1539942514

Significantly, Aston Martin will focus on delivering a new wave of products that are being developed under the largest investment plan in its 102 year history. By the end of the decade, every model in the current line-up will be replaced and up to three new models lines will be added.

The strategic plan also encompasses the brand’s intention to enter the luxury sedan market in China.  Strictly limited to a global production run of just 200 super-saloons, the Lagonda Taraf follows in the wake of other bespoke special projects by Aston Martin such as the creation of the extreme Aston Martin Vulcan supercar, Vantage GT12, One-77, V12 Zagato and the CC100 Speedster Concept. The luxurious new super saloon draws inspiration from the highly sought-after William Towns-designed Lagonda of 1976 and features many of the same cutting-edge engineering techniques seen in modern Aston Martin sports cars, such as the extensive use of carbon fibre body panels.

Bespoke Brilliance
This year, the brand will expand its popular and growing bespoke personalisation service – Q by Aston Martin – and fully integrate it into the company’s Special Products Division. The new business unit is able to deliver anything from unique interiors to creating the DB10 that will feature in the next James Bond film, Spectre.

And it is this team that has created the new Lagonda Taraf. Q by Aston Martin takes bespoke automotive tailoring to the ultimate level, and has enabled the brand to create ultra-personalised luxury sports cars for an increasing number of Chinese customers.

Guests on the show stand were able to take a closer look at the wide array of options available through the Q by Aston Martin service.  The Q by Aston Martin Rapide S on display, with its unique specification of a White Essence exterior and Saddle Leather interior, served to highlight the limitless personalisation possibilities through the service.

Commitment to China
While the DBX Concept highlights the future of luxury GT sports cars for the brand, the new 8-speed models on display at the Aston Martin stand – the Vanquish and Rapide S – are now available to order in China along with the exclusive Lagonda Taraf.

The latest versions of the Vanquish and Rapide S feature the new state-of-the-art ZF Touchtronic III 8-speed automatic transmission, and offer not only considerably enhanced performance and much-improved fuel economy and emissions, but also an even more honed, precise and responsive driving experience.  Improvements have been achieved in every major area of the cars’ performance and fuel economy, and both models are now capable of top speeds in excess of 320 km/h (200 mph).

Representing the brand’s sports-focused Vantage range on the Shanghai show stand is a V8 Vantage Coupe finished in luxurious Mariana Blue with a motorsport derived graphics pack. The V8 Vantage Coupe is available to order in China from 1.98m RMB alongside its exhilarating stable mate, the V12 Vantage S Coupe from 2.88m RMB.___Evil looking - but cool

I even like the colour :)

In a flowing transition, Mercedes-Benz lands the next coup: the Concept GLC Coupé is a near-production-standard study that carries the successful GLE Coupé formula over into a more compact segment. The dynamically expressive show car combines typical stylistic features of a coupé with the sensually pure design idiom of coming SUV generations. This emotively appealing fusion is further enriched with details that are strong in character. A twin-blade radiator grille, powerdomes on the hood and a four-pipe exhaust system form an aesthetic contrast to the harmonious, almost organic main body section. On the other hand, elements from the rugged off-road world, such as enormous 21-inch tires, front and rear underbody protection, increased ground clearance and side running boards, are indicative of the off-road performance potential of the Concept GLC Coupé.

Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG, puts it in a nutshell: "With its modern and sensual design idiom, the Concept GLC Coupé gives a foretaste of future SUV models from Mercedes-Benz. At the same time, it embraces the typical values of tradition-steeped Mercedes-Benz coupés".

The same successful blend of the multifunctional SUV and the emotively appealing coupé world of Mercedes-Benz that was so enthusiastically welcomed with the GLE Coupé is now repeated with the Concept GLC Coupé. However, the near-production-standard show car inhabits a more compact segment, as demonstrated by the external length of 186.2 inches (4.73 meters) and the 111.4 inch (2.83-meter) wheelbase. These two dimensions, together with the striking and muscular main body section, elongated greenhouse and large 21-inch wheels, provide an ideal basis for the typical, almost dramatic proportions of the sportily youthful coupé generation with the characteristic off-road touch.___I even like the colour :)

Now the same needs to happen in Europe. I'm going from The Hague to Austria in a petrol car. Had I had the dosh and less range anxiety, I would have loved to do that in a Tesla

The Verge: Testing Tesla's trip planner and charger network

+Tesla has an ambitious plan to solve the problem to avoid your battery is drained while your are driving.

A new update that started going out to Model S owners at the end of March has two features designed to figure out how far you can go before your battery is drained.

The first is a simple warning that will let you know when you're headed outside the range of known charging stations.

The other is a trip planner that will strategically route you through Tesla's network of Superchargers.

+Josh Lowensohn from +The Verge  came away impressed with how well the trip planner worked, but he also got an interesting lesson in how much extra driving can be involved if you want to stay inside Tesla's charger network.

He couldn't test the range warning because he was working with a full battery in the heart of San Francisco, a place rich with charging stations.

For fun, he plugged in a route to Walt Disney World in Florida, a multi-day trip from his starting point in Northern California.

The Model S's navigation system took a few seconds to churn through the trip before serving up a route that would have had him driving through 27 different charging stations and venturing as far north as Wisconsin (more than 1,000 miles north of his destination).

Plotting the same course into Google Maps (which Tesla uses), the same trip in a gasoline vehicle would normally take him through the Texas panhandle.

Assume he planned to follow the Supercharger route, and stop for about half an hour to top up at each of those station it would be an extra 1,500 or so miles, which easily adds up to an extra full day of driving.

But that same route and others like it are destined to change as time goes on.

In the US, Tesla has 200 Supercharging stations, with plans to open up more both domestically and abroad in the next two years.

This year alone may change the California to Florida scenario with charging stations set to open in New Mexico, Texas, and Mississippi.

You can already see the difference just a few more stations make when plotting a journey from San Francisco to New York, which resembles less of a wild tour of America, and more of what you'd do in a car running off gasoline.

Eighteen months ago, Shots first told readers about tumor paint, an experimental substance derived from scorpion venom. Inject tumor paint into a patient's vein, and it will actually cross the blood-brain barrier and find its way to a brain tumor. Shine near-infrared light on a tumor coated with tumor paint, and the tumor will glow.___Most importantly:

Interesting - flash-baked Dinos.

No Time to Say Good-bye

Evidence of dinosaurs dates back 230 million years; prior to the separation of the continents from Pangea. They dominated the planet for 135 million years and then...poof, they were gone. Until relatively recent times, the death of the dinosaurs was not well understood and work on the problem continues.

In 1978, Antonio Camargo and Glen Penfield, while completing a magnetic survey for an oil company, discovered a crater in the Yucatan Peninsula. Using maps from a variety of sources, they were able to plot out the skeleton of the crater that is today known as Chicxulub Crater. The crater measures 180 km (111 mi) in diameter. Since the discovery, scientists have determined that, based on the size and depth, the impact that formed the crater was an asteroid measuring 200 km(124 mi) wide and 20 km (12 mi) thick.

Nobel prize winning physicist Luis Alvarez, his son, along with nuclear chemists Helen Michel and Frank Asaro published a paper in 1980 that suggested that it was this  impact that killed the dinosaurs. Originally the concept was rejected but as additional data was collected and analysed, their theory became accepted.

So the question becomes: after 135 million years, how long did it take to kill the dinosaurs?

Early theories suggested that it required several thousand years for the dinosaurs to become extinct. This was followed by the ‘nuclear winter’ theory. This theory suggests that sufficient dust and debris entered the atmosphere to dim the Sun, decreasing the sunlight reaching the planet. This would cause a decrease in the plant life that many dinosaurs required and they starved in mass. This starvation of plant eaters caused a deficit in available food for the meat eating dinosaurs. This second theory suggested that it only took a few years to a few decades for the decline of the dinosaurs.

In 2004 a group of scientists published a new, revised version of the impact event. (Chief author of the report was Doug Robertson.) This theory suggests that the impact event was not catastrophic; it was apocalyptic. They determined that the asteroid hit with a force exceeding 100,000,000 megatons of TNT. (One megaton is 907,000 metric tons. The bomb dropped on Hiroshima was 15,000 tons of TNT equivalent.)

Such an enormous impact would have sent molten rock into the atmosphere igniting massive fires globally. They estimate that the surface temperature would have rapidly risen as high as 301 C (575 F) and remained there for a few hours. Any creatures on the surface would have baked. Those creatures in large bodies of water would have survived as well as those that had burrowed underground as the time required to heat water or dirt is significantly longer than that for the atmosphere.

Rather than a few thousand years originally proposed or even the few decades suggested by the ‘nuclear winter’ theory - the dinosaurs died within a matter of hours.___Interesting - flash-baked Dinos.

Nice one

Seven caves on a Martian volcano

In 2007, NASA discovered seven very dark circles on a mountain in Mars.  Using infrared cameras, they checked the temperature of these circles - and discovered that they didn't change much from day to night.

"They are cooler than the surrounding surface in the day and warmer at night," said Glen Cushing of the U.S. Geological Survey's Astrogeology Team. "Their thermal behavior is not as steady as large caves on Earth that often maintain a fairly constant temperature, but it is consistent with these being deep holes in the ground."

In short, they could be windows into caves!

They're called the Seven Sisters: Dena, Chloe, Wendy, Annie, Abby, Nikki and Jeanne.   They range in diameter from about 100 to 250 meters.

They're on one of the highest places on Mars: a volcano named Arsia Mons near Mars' tallest mountain, Olympus Mons.

But the picture here is part of another story.   A few years ago, an artist named Ron Guyatt started making "solar system travel posters."  This was one of the first.  I want some!

You can see them all here:

http://ron-guyatt.deviantart.com/gallery/36677786/Space-Travel-Posters

There are 3 pages of them.  Click to make them bigger.

He says:

Space tourism is still a long ways off, but it's not hard to imagine that someday, tourists will visit the natural geological landmarks of other worlds much like they tour the Grand Canyon, Mount Everest or Ayers Rock. Each of these great tourist destinations needs a classic retro travel poster to entice visitors. Until the day people settle off world and make their own destinations many of these may be the places that people will want to travel too. I hope that these posters can inspire people to think beyond our world to the limitless possibilities of the Universe.

I like this idea!

The posters on the website are more abstract than the one here.  Compare it to this:

http://ron-guyatt.deviantart.com/art/Mars-Seven-Sisters-491470969

Which do you like better?

Here's some more about Arsia Mons:
