Top 10 midnight sun experiences
Norway’s most popular astronomer, Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard shares his best midnight sun travel tips and some rather peculiar, interesting facts.
The Earth's axis in relation to its orbit around the sun is the reason for this unusual phenomenon. At the actual poles, the sun only sets and rises one day every year. The midnight sun is also known as the polar day. It can be compared to a twilight or sunset. The brightness is reddish-yellow with a brilliant soft, low radiance in the sky. The season for experiencing the midnight sun varies depending upon how close to the Arctic Circle you are. June and July are the peak periods, but if you voyage further north you can experience the midnight sun from May to August.
The North Cape
The midnight sun is spectacular here. Whilst the view from the coast can sometimes be foggy in summer, the view ... more »

The midnight sun
During summer, the sun never sets. Capture this magnificent experience on a midnight sun cruise or safari before the darkness of winter arrives.
Norway is different from most other European countries because of the light. During the summer months, it never gets completely dark at night anywhere in the country. Then there is the midnight sun:
About the midnight sun
The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon which means that the sun does not set during the summer months. In other words, given fair weather, you can see the sun for a continuous 24 hours.
The duration of the midnight sun depends on how far north you are. At the Arctic Circle in the county of Nordland, you can see the midnight sun from 12 June to 1 July, at the North Cape in Finnmark http://www.visitnorway.com/en/Where-to-go/North/Finnmark/ you can see the sun from 14 May to 29... more »

Nykirken of Bergen, Norway
Nykirken is a Parish church. In English Nykirken means something like "The New Church". It was built in 1622, but has been rebuilt several times due to fires etc. Last time it was destroyed, was during World War II, when the German ship Voorbode exploded in the harbor leaving large parts of Bergen in ruins. It was restored in 1956.

The Polar Explorers
Roald Amundsen was the first man in history to reach the South Pole, on 14 December 1911. He is only one of several great Norwegian polar explorers.
Original article with links: http://www.visitnorway.com/en/About-Norway/History/Polar-explorers/
Nansen and Amundsen
Roald Amundsen made it into the history books (and became a national hero in Norway) when he famously beat Captain Robert F. Scott to the South Pole, which he reached, accompanied by four of his men, on 14 December 1911. He was also the first man to navigate the Northwest Passage, and the first to fly across the Arctic Ocean.
Fridtjof Nansen first made a name for himself crossing Greenland on skis, and subsequently trying to reach the North Pole on the ship Fram, although he is today remembered as much more than just a polar explorer. Also an accomplished scientist, statesman ... more »

Shot this yesterday as I saw these heavy snow filled clouds came rolling in. They actually put down about 15 cm of snow over the night. Really doesn't look like spring is coming this year.

The cosy town of Kragerø in is surrounded by islands and skerries, making it a favourite for experiencing coastal life and culture of Southern Norway. Bring your boat to really make the most of it. If you don't have a boat there's a lot of ferries or taxi boats taking you to where you want.

Here in Western Norway, we have been blessed with extraordinary nice weather for a long time - March was the 3rd driest ever in my hometown Bergen, only 1865 and 1964 was drier.
This is yet another shot from my trip to this place a couple of weeks ago, and this is what the weather has been like for quite some time now, including the Easter :)
