Police have a difficult, and stressful job. That they often get a bad rep often stems from the fact that there is rarely a positive reason to come in contact with them.

That is not the case here, or with the many stories like it that are emerging with frightening regularity. This country has undertaken an intentional militarization of its police forces, in their outfitting and their psychology. The result is that interactions with the public become confrontations not with civilians, but with an enemy to be subdued.

So how many years until they bring back Steve Jobs like they did Tupac at Coachella?

No word used to describe an app is more cringeworthy than 'Freemium'. It's like knowing your Nigerian Prince is about to rip you off, but going to the meeting anyway.

How is it that rearranging can instantly make a home feel completely different? We did yesterday, and suddenly it's like a whole new place to live.

I deleted all of my Spotify playlists yesterday because I was tired of listening to the same music. So I'm reaching out to G+ for album suggestions, if you could put one album through my earbuds what would it be?

I'm making a playlist of cover songs. I set it to collaborative, which I believe should let any of you Spotify users add songs right to the playlist. See if you all can think of any I missed.

As much as I always intend to post here more often, the lack of integration with the various news reader apps I use doesn't make it easy to do on the go. Have they released the APIs to change this yet? Or is it just not high on the devs todo lists?

Anyone out there with kids, can you help me understand a sudden inexplicable onset of bug-phobia? Last year my daughter and I loved to go hiking, bugs or no bugs. We went out today, I had to carry her back as she was absolutely freaked by every bug we saw.

Yup that pretty much sums it up.

They've gotta turn it around with this series. They got my hopes up a little when the New York series wasn't handed over with a bow to the Yanks, but this 5 loss streak to the Rays and Red Sox needs to end. Perhaps it will be slow at work tonight, and I can listen to at least part of the game.

Sorry, I don't have a circle for this, so I'm putting out to you all. I don't know how many of you are iOS gamers, but I'm on a hunt. I finished Pocket RPG about a month ago. Since then I've played every dual-stick shooter that looks like it might have any similarities. Mostly I've been left wanting (although Call of Minis: Dual Shot has been an entertaining place holder). So has anyone found a dual-stick shooter that has a little more depth that repetitive arena survival-fests?

So without thinking much about it, I ended up mostly swearing off of social media for the last 2+ months. I wasn't boycotting or anything, but despite my info-addiction I do occasionally hit a saturation point. If it were alcohol, you could say I needed to dry out....

Well I'm ready to hop off the wagon again. I think Google+ is more likely to hold my attention than FB. I'm not kicking them to the curb, I still want to be in touch with my family, but I've spent an hour on here today and already feel like my day is better off for it. Thanks in no small part to a calm and respectful conversation I was able to have with +stephen h that would not have been likely to occur anywhere else online.

All that being said, my Circles haven't had any new additions in the last few months. Is there anyone who I should really be following in order to heighten my G+ experience?

If I'm going to organize a running team, I may need some motivation...

By a process I like to call "Leadership by Attrition" I have been placed in charge of organizing a team to run a half-marathon in September, and fundraising for the team to raise money for expanding access to clean water in Swaziland. I've never done anything like this before, so if anyone out there has experience, suggestions, or advice I would love to hear it.

I switched from Android to the iPhone a week ago, and I have to say its unlikely I will ever go back. There were a lot of things I loved about Android, but the experience with iOS is 2-3 generations ahead and I can't see how Google could hope to catch up given their current trajectory. And as a bonus, the screen is as clear and easy to read as printed text.

I've been neglecting G+, but Blogger keeps prompting me to change that. I'm helping my wife get launched with her blog and craft shop, so take a look if you've got the time. If this is something you're interested in, let me know and I'll create a Craft circle. Any feedback on the blog design or the writing is always appreciated.

Many people want to take a strong stand for the deportation of illegal immigrants, because they cost American jobs. By that logic, why aren't we calling for the exile of those who continually offer bipartison support for free trade agreements, which continue to lose jobs Ameicans actually want?

XDA is down in opposition to SOPA and PIPA, and I support their efforts in raising awareness. However, while they work to reach their goal of 50,000 users contacting their US Senators and Representatives, does anyone know where I can download the latest build of CM9 for the Kindle Fire.

It's probably too early to get very excited that Ron Paul is in the lead, but I'll go with it. I know he is far from a perfect candidate, but he has two appealing features for me. Where the average Democrat/Republican wants to interfere in our personal lives, as well as the workings of foreign nations, Paul seems to want neither.

I got a Kindle Fire as an early Christmas present, and I have to say I'm really enjoying. Especially now that it's rooted, and running Android Market Place and Gmail. Yesterday I decided that I wanted the Home UI to work like a magazine, and here's what I've managed so far. That's one of the big upsides for me to use Android and be able to completely control and alter my experience with the device on a whim, which my iPad doesn't allow (although it excels in it's own areas to be sure).

So I'm waiting for Trenton, reading an interview with Rachel Maddow (I can here my more conservative friends hissing I think) where they were trying to get her to take part in the shaming of Anderson Cooper for not being openly gay...Is that still an issue? Bill Oreilly doesn't need to talk about not being gay, why the pressure on Cooper? On the other hand, if you want to talk about his half-baked journalism (imo), go nuts.

I don't know how many in my circles are gamers, but for those of you that are, I can't say enough good things about OnLive. Since last night I've played Batman:Arkham City, UnrealTournament 3, and Homefront, on my middle of the road Toshiba Satelite. No lag, no stuttering, responsive controls, great graphics (since the heavy lifting is in the cloud). And all that was over WiFi, not even ethernet as they suggest. The absolute best thing? Other than the OnLive client, all the games are instantly playable without havung to wait for a 6gb download.

The forebears of the #OccupyWallStreet movement, Spains indignados, spoil ballots to stay outside of politics and rob the politicians of legitimacy: "[T]he number of spoiled ballots on Sunday was double that of the last election in 2008 – numbering, with abstentions and blank votes, 11 million: more than voted for the rightwing victors, the Partido Popular."

Some say that #OWS should enter politics and field candidates. I disagree. Like the indignados, it shows the illegitimacy of the poisoned, paralyzed politics of the nation. It puts the powerful on warning.

Legitimacy can no longer be assumed. See Egypt, where even the military are being challenged by the people.

I like reading more than most things, but sometimes it can be.a lot of work. You spend the first few pages each time you sit down having to pry your way back into the author's imaginary world. Stephen King, on the other hand, is like stepping off the edge of a ravine at nigh, you're going in whether you like it or not. I'm reading 11/22/63, and it amazes me how easily he can pull you in. Apart from him, only Robert Jordan and Kim Harrison have consistently the same effect for me.
