Add my voice to the criticism of Star Trek: Into Darkness. It is not Star Trek storytelling. It's the use of a franchise for sci-fi action adventure.

I didn't realize until just now that links are no longer offering preview text. Ah well. I just blogged about my happiness at being able to stand on one leg. It sounds a lot less enthralling when I have to repeat the message. :/

So has anyone else noticed G+ feed anomalies since this weekend? Posts seem unusually sparse. Hitting the refresh button doesn't always show the same posts either. I feel like I'm missing a lot of activity.

Today's theme music was a chart topper from 1983. Finally, instead of my usual list of complaints, I have a little good news to share: politics, health, pets, and finances. It seems that life is improving again.

I'm just a ray of sunshine these days, aren't I? Life has its ups and downs. These are the downs.

10,000 people and 5,000 animals walk at the annual Walk For Animals fundraiser for the Animal Humane Society. Today's yucky weather will likely reduce turnout. :( Take advantage of the internet and conveniently donate online. :)

Snow, snow, snow. And electric shocks. I prefer the snow.

Blood circulation is still wrong in my left foot. I'm still on crutches until I feel able to support my weight on my left leg. On the plus side, I can actually feel a tricep in each of my arms. Who knew that I had those?!

I run the numbers, but I can't even afford a 1-bedroom apartment meant for low-income and elderly folks. In fact, according the numbers, I'm not sure anybody can afford it. What is wrong with our politics?

Did anyone out there play Dark Age Of Camelot, or do you enjoy realm-vs-realm gameplay in a 3-realm mmorpg? If so, here is a Kickstarter project that needs your help. They have 7 days remaining, but they haven't quite reached their goal yet.

The deep vein thrombosis is still there, but the blood clot is a lot less painful now because of the blood thinner medications that I've been taking. I plan to return to work tomorrow... for as long as my leg can tolerate anyway.

My question made it to Wingman's Hangar #16 last week! (13:27-15:00)
And my news item about the fusion engine made it too! (21:55-22:50)

Off to work for a rare morning shift. There's work to do with Integra on converting some fax lines to a different digital system.

Patience, everyone. I am concerned too. Let the specialists care for the injured, search the scene for evidence, and research any claims of responsibility. I'm trying to avoid jumping to conclusions. I admit, it's quite hard to refrain.

Sorry, everyone, no NTEN conference for me today. :( What a boring blog this has become, me complaining about my leg for 3 weeks. *laugh*

What horrible timing for the NTEN conference. :( I'm going to try braving the weather on a cane and bad leg to catch the bus.

Does anyone happen to know what happened to PetriDish.org? They have zero new projects... nothing in any category. I'll be very disappointed if this science-focused crowdfunding site has gone belly up. :(

I'm especially fascinated that the same development that will house the new Quatrefoil library is also providing low-income housing for GLBT elderly. I've already sent them my information to see if I qualify.

It sounded like gun shots. At least half a dozen of them. I had already gone to bed. I couldn't limp to the window fast enough to see what was going on. One of my landlords upstairs also heard the sounds and called the police.
I zipped up my shoes and grabbed a cell phone then hobbled outside on my cane. No way could I be anything but a target to a hostile person, but I figured I could at least call an ambulance if I found a hurt person. By the time I slowly reached the alley, the police car was already driving through to investigate. So I turned around and came back inside.

I guess I'm officially job hunting with an eye to relocate. I actually updated my resume this weekend. Anyone know of some fun PowerShell opportunities? Non-profit organizations move to the front of the line.

I had another dream already. I can't imagine the metaphorical relevance for it, but it was interesting nevertheless.

Being poor is better than the alternative lived daily by a lot of Americans. We should try to move away from federal poverty level and minimum wage to the self-sufficiency standard. Maybe it means raising minimum wage, or maybe it means a guaranteed minimum income.

Autism aficionados may be interested to know that the book opens with (and persistently includes) autistic perspective in this story about the nature of humanity and its place in the universe. Fans of +David Brin will enjoy the usual exploration of different perspectives on identity.

DRM-free game development is making a splash in headlines by crowdfunding huge amounts of cash. Maybe the traditional game industry will finally take the hint? We'll give you money, but not for DRM.

I rarely dream, so I tend to write about them when it happens. Reviewing the "dreams" tag on my blog, I had 4 dreams in 2012... and that's about average for me.
More accurately, I rarely remember my dreams. It would be interesting to undergo monitoring just to confirm that I do have normal dream cycles during my sleep. I assume that I do. I've written before about a study showing it's typical that autistics infrequently experience dream recall.

No modern human population lacks dogs in its culture. How did we reach this state? I gave money to a crowdfunding project at PetriDish, and I got this photo as one of the perks. They're collecting dna samples of dogs in Africa. As we continue mapping the canine genome, it'll be interesting to see if we find any new evidence for co-evolution.
(Yes, I do #furryfriday instead of #caturday or #dogunday .)

Up too late on a scripting project, but it's finally done. I converted my JSON-formatted Firefox bookmarks into Windows 7 files and folders. All hail powershell.

I'm in the habit of posting on FurryFriday instead of #caturday. Here are some images of Hope, my 2-year-old cat. More info later on why this series of photos are necessary. (It's good news, not bad.)

Ed Wilson (of "The Scripting Guys" fame) will be speaking to the Twin Cities powershell user group on March 12th. Pass the word along to other local techies that you know. Let's give him a crowd. :)

Car repairs. Yuck. I'm too poor for this stuff. I wish I could reliably commute by bicycle... or live close enough so I could walk to work! The bus routes are horrible (> 4 hours one way for a < 10 mile trip), so that's not an option here.

What food processor do you suggest as a juicer? It's more important me that it operate quietly and be easy to clean, but I might go with a louder model if it offers lots of options (like making a complete fruit smoothie in one device).

My google-fu is weak. Does anyone know where I can find a database of daily gasoline prices? I would have thought the national government compiled statistics on typical items, but I can't find it. How do they compute poverty formulas if they don't know what stuff costs?

Calling G+ chemists. Do you have any opinion on the safety of this product? It would be awesome to use it throughout the animal shelter, assuming it doesn't harm any of the critters that would lick it.

Here's another crowdfunding project on Kickstarter. Does anyone remember Gas Powered Games from such classic titles as Dungeon Siege and Demigod? Well, they've "bet the farm" on this Kickstarter project to create a new action RPG. They need another $700,000 in 2 weeks, or GPG will go the way of Atari.

I have to stop donating money to interesting things, but I've added my money to this crowdfunding project already. It's dedicated to open source learning and citizen science. Its results will be included in the http://www.earthmicrobiome.org/ . You have 64 hours left to contribute.

I'm not a fan of the U.S. medical establishment. I can't afford health insurance any more, any way. Luckily, though, my health is finally returning to normal.
