“Google has worked hard, within the confines of the current laws, to be open about the data requests we receive. We post this information on our Transparency Report whenever possible.”
This is a great article about Google's Transparency Report, featuring my awesome colleagues +Matt Braithwaite and +Dorothy Chou.

I have linked an interesting report about about cyber threats on both Desktop and Mobile platforms. Here is my take-aways from the report.
With a few simple rules you can avoid the majority of what is defined as malware on both Desktop computers (primarily Windows) and on Mobile (primarily Android).
It's sort of reminiscent of the time when to avoid spyware on your computer it was common knowledge to avoid downloading music from Kazaa or Limewire and not open attachments in email and you'd be pretty much safe. [the 90's and early 2000's]
Currently, most the desktop malware appears to come from using Java, Flash, AIR, Shockwave, VLC or Quicktime. Also there is a big increase in risk when either living or visiting sites in other countries than the US.
You can deduce that if you avoid these cesspools of malware risk, you can safely use Wi... more »

Questions from the Techmeme Job Listing. How many can you answer ?
1. What were Facebook's most significant product launches for mobile devices in 2013 and how were they received in the marketplace?
2. Explain why Yahoo bought Tumblr from the perspective of the two companies.
3. What are the factors believed to have contributed to Apple's slide in the stock market over the past three quarters?
4. Recent hacking episodes of note have involved defaced websites and reports of stolen data. How are companies and governments responding?
5. Contrast the 4 publications featured most often on Techmeme with respect to what they bring to Techmeme's coverage.

The NSA says the Constitution does not apply to the agency.
President Obama last week: "Nobody is listening to your telephone calls."
+CNET headline today: "NSA admits listening to U.S. phone calls without warrants."
The National Security Agency told Congress in a secret meeting that the NSA does not need court authorization to tap phones and that "an analyst's decision is sufficient, without any other legal authorization required."
Holy. Shit.

Google Benefits are rad. 7 weeks of paid Paternity Leave. I'm used to hearing about Maternity leave being pretty good but 7 weeks of Paternity leave? On top of the 30 business days of vacation time - I could hypothetically take 3 months and 1 week off paid. But I won't - since I love my job and want to continue making a difference.

Over the last five years your chances of being killed in a terrorist attack were about 1 in 20 million. Your chances of being struck by lightning over the same period were around 1 in 5.5 million.
Before we can have a meaningful dialogue about security versus privacy, we have to understand and accept that terrorism isn't a tangible thing that can be "fought". It's not a battle that can be won. It has no end. It's an abstract construct, covering a threat that's statistically insignificant. It's not a fight worth billions of dollars, and multiple new government agencies (Dept of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, etc.). It's certainly not worth trashing the First, Second, Fourth and Fifth Amendments.
Each year, 7.6 million people die from cancer. Where's the War on Cancer?

Interesting that the official post mentions all sorts of other products with Hashtags but fails to mention Google+. Interesting since their implementation mimics the Google+ implementation very closely, much more close to how Google+ does it than say how Twitter uses Hashtags.
Either way, its good they have joined the present. :)

LittleBigFund.org is live! Make a big impact to little charities
Check it out and donate now here: http://bit.ly/ZqJerh
The time has finally come! LittleBigFund.org is live and open for business! We're featuring three amazing #LGBT organizations this month on a site that I know you'll love. Go read their stories, donate to create a big fund together, and then vote on which organization you think is most deserving of the fund. The one with the most votes receives the fund and you make a huge impact with only a few bucks. Crowdfunding and storytelling mix to enable charitable passions.
We've vetted these nonprofits, worked with them directly to tell their story, and will return a story back to you, our donors, with how the organization who received the fund used it. Your reward is knowing that you made a difference, not a tote bag. We facilitate the process. I... more »
