In progress. Just started working on this a few days ago, not entirely happy with the direction I went, but still going to plug away at it anyways :D

So on a whim the other night I decided to sit down and make a thing in a jar, and here it is, my little homage to Baba Yaga in a jar :D
It was loads of fun to do, and I still have two more jars to go!

We have a forest behind our house, and lately my son and his friends have taken to grabbing the most pointy sharp and eye gougy sticks they can find and using them as swords, so we decided to try and change that. A SURPRISE treasure hunt! The neighborhood kids will get a fancy (and cheap non pointy foam) sword and a helmet and embark on a grand treasure hunt that will cumulate in the slaying of a great dragon (pinata) :D So I made maps and brave knight tokens that they will have to find and my husband made the tricky clues and treasures. I managed to make my crappy little backyard into a kingdom!

I wonder, if I have anyone on my list that lives in Missouri? Knowing nothing really of the scale of the area ( everything seems smaller on maps) I am hoping maybe someone lives somewhat close to a place called Pickering?
I am asking as I enjoy as a side hobby genealogical research, and well I just like digging about in old documents :) But if anyone lives in the area, I wonder if they could help me locate a lost cemetery. It's not listed on maps so far as I can see, but it just has to be there. Also a school, or what once upon a time was a school.
I would so love to get down there someday, but it's a very long ways a way.

I made my sick little boy another friend a few days ago, turned out he had walking pneumonia, but is well on the mend now :)

So I was browsing digitized copies of the +Edmonton Journal and was reading the Mar.1 1919 edition when I kept seeing this. Nestled in between adverts and stories, it seems to be a reply to another odd insert that simply says " ELEVEN EIGHTY-ONE" , again scattered all over the place. I read a few more editions from March 1919 and there it was again and again. What is it??
Unfortunately the online editions ran out and therefore ended my quest to answer the question below, who is 1181? Or what is 1181?? It's going to bug me for some time.
Any ideas what it is?

My whole household has been sick, so what have I been doing, well the only logical thing I can do, make tiny felt creatures for my sick kiddo :)

This little film on +The Sketchbook Project is so wonderful...It was recently in London in the Canada Water Culture Space...the people behind it are just ACE! Plust the whole philsophy behind this massive project is just wonderful! I've met so many wonderful artists and have the pleasure to keep in touch with them. Watch it and let it inspire you to join in!! And now for some shameless promo: do keep an eye out for my fold out sketchbook with the fox maiden and her tree top friends (around 2 min. into film) http://vimeo.com/51715899#

Uh oh , only 5 days into my project and I am already waylaid, I have a kiddo with a terrible toothache, but I think that counts as a valid reason for not getting my sketch done today, I will just post 2 tomorrow :)

Day 4 Tabitha Claire
Tabitha Claire clipped off the hair,
Of her little sister Marie.
Tabitha Claire claimed this was fair,
"She'll not be prettier than me!"
Tabitha Claire, with a vanity so rare
It put even peacocks to shame,
Was quite put out and continued to pout,
When dear nanny cut hers the same.

Reverse Anthropomorphism
So me, +Samantha Villenave, +Linsay Blondeau and a couple of other folks were talking about the preponderance of bunny art and somehow we've decided to do a HASHTAG ART THANG - O NOES.
O YES!
You have a week, but here's the deal for the first exercise: HUMAN HEAD on a bunny body. We are asking that you * #InvertTheMeme *
Got it? Good.
It's open to anyone and everyone. Whichever way you chose to interpret Human Head on a Bunny Body is up to you, be it photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, collage. We're democratic that way. Hashtag it with #InvertTheMeme and #BunnyBody If it works out well, we may decide to do more!
Deadline is Friday 26th October, no sooner.

An update on that little fawn I took a photo of last year, the one I was convinced was dying, well after a lot of phone calls it was determined that no one could do anything, which turned out to be a good thing. The little guy is still going, yes he still looks kind of wonky but I am beginning to think he is just a wonky deer. He seems healthy just doesn't seem to groom himself at all. He grew in some little horns this fall and they are wonky too, but he's dong just fine. :D

I am just going to go ahead and post it here :)
Day 3 : Oliver Taylor
Oliver Taylor cursed like a sailor,
Uttering filth like a cad,
Oliver Taylor who cursed like a sailor,
Was extraordinarily bad.
Oliver Taylor who cursed like a sailor,
Made all the other kids weep,
Because Oliver Taylor who cursed like a sailor,
Was a horrible little creep.
the rest of my 365(maybe, hopefully) illustration project as I do it will all be stored here: http://cordeliascompendium.blogspot.ca/, but I will just post them as I do them here too.

I am going to have to re-think the g+ page idea for my project, too many places posting things and I am going to end up double posting. I might just post them all here on my main page. Trying to keep it neat, but also easy to post to.

There are 5 crows diligently "working" on the power line across the street, I don't know what exactly they are up to but they are very busy up there, and on a rooftop nearby sits another crow burbling away to himself or maybe to the others, maybe he is scolding them gently or he is goading them on. But it's apparent they have a plan, whatever it may be and I don't think it's a good plan.

Day 2 : Prunella Prue
This my friends is Prunella Prue
And rest assured she's better than you.
Her cheeks are rosy and her blood is blue,
she knows exactly what's best for you.
Her shoes are neat and her dress is new,
Prunella looks down her nose at you.
Your hat and your hair will never do,
Prunella doesn't mind reminding you.
She's mean and hateful, this is true,
Perhaps this is why her friends are few.
The moral today, dear readers, is that nobody appreciates a snobby jerk. -Mrs. Cordelia P. Clonkwater

Day 1 : Gage Seethspoon
Gage Seethspoon
Gage Seethspoon was a terrible child,
Vile and vicious, completely wild.
And while his mother long suffering wept,
Out of doors this sly cad crept.
With trusty stick to the fields he fled,
To whip and wallop and beat the head,
Of any dear creature not quick to flee,
Or swift enough to climb a tree.
Until one day in a twist of fate,
Terrible Gage Seethspoon became the bait!
A pack of wolves which had gone unseen,
Taught the boy soundly for being so mean.
Today's moral dear reader, is don't be a jerk to animals.
-Mrs. Cordelia P. Clonkwater

well I made a g+ page for my 365 project, but I have no idea how to just share the posts from it, it changes to page view when I click on it :\ and posting a link results in the exact same thing as linking to blogger.. I just wanted to have it share as it normally would. Anyone know how to do this?

2012-10-16 23:29:13 (14 comments, 1 reshares, 7 +1s)
Here we are :D
I am going to use blogger for my 365 project, so I set up it's very own place for it to reside and I will just post from there. I have always been a big fan of cautionary tales so I thought I would try my hand at mixing the things I seem to have the most fun doing, drawing grouchy and/or miserable characters and woeful tales of silly misery and here is the result!

I am pretty excited to have begun a (hopefully) 365 day illustration project, I am just setting up a neat and tidy place to keep it all, and trying to figure out how to incorporate it into here, while still keeping in theme.

I am still here, though some major setbacks in my recovery from Bell's Palsy have resulted in almost zero new artwork to share, but hopefully I can now get back to work and have something in the near future to show for it :)

I have a rather unhealthy obsession with eggs and the demise of one Mr. Dumpty. Just drawing away the afternoon. Still a lot of work to go on this one before I even think of beginning the painting.

oh, well that didn't work. It deleted the entire post. :/
I will keep an eye on the little fawn and if he gets sicker I will call the conservation people back, since I am to leave him be until he is immobile.

Today, after I attempt to clean up the massive mess that is my house, I might just break out the " oil" paints and experiment. I say "oil" because they are water soluble oil paints so really I don't know what they are or how I am supposed to use them, so every once in a while I drag them out and play around. It usually ends in frustration, but it's all about the experimentation right?
My peacock re-do is nearly done just the banner to finish up then I will post a photo. I think it's coming along nicely.
I'm not sure of it but I am thinking of entering a local juried art show/ competition in October, but I must have the pieces ready to submit by July .

I lost my best buddy of 16 years the other day, I keep thinking if I don't think about it, it won't feel so bad. But it does, and I miss him terribly.
Here we are, 15 years ago. I was still a teenager, and I had my very first no roomate apartment when I got him as a baby. He was the best, meanest, grouchiest character ever, but he was my sweet kitten.

Slow painting, while delivering much nicer results, also means I don't have as much to show as regularly as I used to, just works in progress. I am thinking I should crack open the sketchbook and post a few musings and problem solving? I am quite sure my color mixing wouldn't be interesting lol

I don't normally share music or videos or the like, but recently +Tina Imel suggested this artist Mariee Sioux as a fantastic soundtrack to paint to, and oh I do agree! It's just perfect and I have been listening exclusively while working on my latest painting.

Was just experimenting in my sketchbook, making a more medieval type of illustration, unfortunately I completely ruined it when I began painting, and I am also not entirely sure my french is correct in the banner. Ah well, I will make another one. :)

Here is a detail of my newest piece! Finished and ready to go to Atlanta for the Linearity show curated by the lovely +Kelly McKernan at the Mint Gallery! :D It's title is "We are Kin"
the grey feathers nearly drove me completely mad, but I am really happy with the end result.

work in progress 2 : my view this morning . It just dawned on me that after I have painted all these feathers, I still have very many tiny scales to go.

I wish this painting would paint it's self.. monochrome feathers, I am getting a bit bored and can't wait to begin on the colour and flowers.
