Harbor Slush

The harbor at Algoma, WI was busy making slush on the morning I snapped this image.  There were chunks of ice undulating with minimal wave action.  As they moved, ever so slightly, together and apart, the slush in the water created by the cold temperatures was pushed up between the chunks of ice, creating the ridges seen here.  If you squint, you can see the first hint of the morning sun on the horizon, just to the right of the lighthouse.

Garden Torches

The tulips are now in top form throughout northeast Wisconsin.   In a sea of red and yellow tulips, these orange toned specimens stood out.  The color reminded me of flames – like garden torches.

Superior Rock Collection

On a summer trip to the shore of Lake Superior, a few years ago, we had the opportunity to wade through the clear, icy-cold waters. 
This is a collection of colorful rocks in the shallow water near the Wisconsin shore of Lake Superior. I used this as my desktop wallpaper for a long time and always thought it would be a challenging image for a large puzzle.

Shade Tree

When I saw this shadow on a brick wall, in my mind, it looked like the tree was growing out of the green grass at the base of the wall.

SOLD     You never know what people will like...or why.  

I just sold this double matted, framed, 30x24 print to a nice lady in PA. She emailed me saying she just loved it.  This is not one of my favorite images, so I asked her why it appealed to her.  She said she was redecorating her husband's office and he happens to be a scuba diver. She loved the lion fish and thought having the eel in the shot was a bonus.  (To me, the eel is the standout and the lion fish is the bonus.)

Fishing Lights

The full moon and lighthouse presented a dramatic backdrop for a couple preparing to fish off the pier at Kewaunee, Wisconsin. When ready, they would cast a seine net over the side and illuminate the surface of the water with their lantern, hoping to attract small Lake Michigan fish – smelt.

The evening was much darker than it appears in this image and I was a lot farther away than one would think at first glance. I was on shore which put the lighthouse about 750 feet away.  The moon had to be at least three or four times that far. ;-)
