A Resolution For 2012Warning: Long post!Earlier today, I was having an interesting conversation with ...A Resolution For 2012
Warning: Long post!
Earlier today, I was having an interesting conversation with +Coenraad Loubser about Google and the the potential of Google+. The conversation was sparked by a "devil's advocate" type post that - considering how much of a Google fanboy I am - certainly managed to get my attention!
It got me to thinking about the role of the user in all of this; the question of how much influence we can have in shaping the product that Google+ becomes. Coenraad made some excellent points about the potential of Google+ to be an extremely powerful knowledge-sharing tool. And I absolutely agree!
For me; that is where the true magnificence lies in the future-state of the Google+ platform. The knowledge we can acquire by interacting with people from around the world; from different backgrounds and different social circumstances, is truly awe inspiring.
I believe in the vision of a social and intellectual web of connections that could arguably do more good than anything on the internet that has come before it. It's not just about the dissemination of information; it's about the acquisition of knowledge. Anyone can read a book; but I believe we learn more through practical experience and interaction with others.
All that said, it's the responsibility of everyone who shares that vision to make it a reality. The clever coders at Google can provide us with the platform; but we can help provide the inspiration for those lines of code by being vocal and demanding of the service WE want.
How can you help?
For starters; you can add a few of the Googlers who make things happen to your circles (shared circle included below). Engage them in conversation (whether that conversation is specifically about Google+ or not). If you consistently use your voice; you might actually get heard!
Know who is in charge
Everyone who cares about the Google+ platform should have +Vic Gundotra in their circles. He's the head honcho who can make things happen. What's more; he reads all the comments on his posts (and often the +mentions of him). You may not often get a response but it pays to be vocal with Vic around. Then of course there is +Bradley Horowitz who reports to Vic. Always worthwhile commenting on his posts.
Maybe you have ideas about the mobile app and the games section? +Punit Soni is the guy for that!
Think you have an idea to improve Hangouts? +Chee Chew is the boss of that.
But there are plenty of people working on the Google+ project that I'm not going to mention right now. Check them out via the shared circle below. Community managers like +Natalie Villalobos are always worth mentioning because they somehow manage to read all their +mentions!
